It was our second day in the Sudder St. area and we still hadn't found a good place to stay. We had probably checked out 20 hotels on our price range of up-to US$20/night and the one we stayed in for the first night did not cut it at all. Lack of water, electricity and windows does lower the standards!
We had wandered down to Marquis St which is a few minute walk from Sudder St where we started to see hotels showing some potential. And this is how we found the Aafreen.
We were sold on the fact that we got full size double rooms, shower (and water), bed sheets, windows and a nice decor for about US$15. Add air-conditioning and it was US$20. This was about the same price most of the hotels in the area offer, but few had all the facilities.
Its a small hotel with a lot of character. It is in the middle of the bustling Marquis street which provides day long entertainment.
The staff were friendly, helpful and didn't bug you for tips.
They have one large balcony room which goes for the standard AC price of US$20. I managed to get that room on my second night. The balcony is big enough for a few people to sit on and watch the world go by. The room also had a fridge. An excellent way to wind down from a days tourism.
After seeing so many dud hotels in the area it was very nice to not only find one that worked, but also one which was enjoyable.
