If one place in Kolkata really pulled up its socks after a decline some years ago, it is The Dhaba. It was my favourite Punjabi food outlet. But its quality went down about 7/8 years ago. When I tried it recently, I found it top notch once again.
The outlet has three floors, with the ground floor being non-a/c and having a take away counter for kathi rolls and other food.
But the strength of The Dhaba is its authentic Punjabi dhaba style food. It gives large portions at reasonable rates. For the Indian breads, please specify how you want it done, otherwise you will get either not cooked at all or overdone.
The decor is not much but the service is good. The upper floors are clean. The place is open till 11pm and is good for families, who throng it in droves. Be prepared to wait for a table on weekends. But the wait is worth it.
