A wonderful place to relax... Moderately priced. The staff were awesome right from the chef to the room attendants and not to forget the manager Mr Khan friendly and very helpful person. Lot of options in the Menu and the food is yummy. The rooms are a bit small but well maintained and clean with all amenities and also has a mini bar.
Highly recommended :)

The name says it all. You can relax here. Located in South Kolkata, this neighborhood is not as busy and chaotic as the center of the city. You can catch a cab right in front of the hotel. Take a walk a few minutes and you can take a bus or tuk tuk. It takes 15~20 minutes to New Market or Park Street area. So, the good thing here is that you feel relaxed, but as far as places to eat or shops to buy stuff, there are not many choices around here although you will find a couple of restaurants and sweets shops with a few minutes walk.

The breakfast was ok. I mean, just ok and not great. They only have basic things like toast, egg, cereal, coffee, juice, stuff like that. Also you can also choose from a couple of different Indian pancakes, whose name escapes me. Vegetables are not included in the breakfast, so I ordered green salad, but it's got only cucumber, onion and tomatoes. Not quite green! I wish there were more varieties, as I was eating the same things every day and after a while I got bored with it. In the end I was just eating cereal and juice.

Talking about meal, on some nights during my stay here I ordered the room service food, and they were not bad. I had curry with paneer in it, which is Indian cheese. I did not know what it was first and was thinking it was tofu, but later found out it was Indian cheese.

The staff here is friendly and nice. The room is clean, but in my room the water pressure in shower was weak. At times AC was a little too loud.

Overall this is a nice place and if I am visiting Kolkata again, I want to come back here.

South side of Kolkata. A small B&B. Mostly Helpful stuff – the manager was extremely helpful and so was the kitchen staff.

The room is quite spacious, the shower has strong water pressure and hot water. Free Wifi… We had enjoyed our stay here.

We’ve read some reviews about their breakfast being not that great but we thought breakfast here was pretty awesome. Not just breakfast, we had dinners here too – 3 times, including after we checked out! After a day out in busy Kolkata, it was so nice to come back to a nice cozy hotel and be able to have delicious and safe meals at the hotel – very reasonably priced too.

Some cons were: There was no room cleaning during our stay so the towels and sheets were not changed (We didn’t bother asking because we had our own towels), sound insulation could be better I guess.

But still I highly recommend this place.

Some other stuff:
- You can also request airport pick up (probably a good idea if you are arriving after midnight like us) – it was 1300 rupees (probably a bit expensive but we were glad we organized this – especially because this was our first stop in India).
- They let you check in early (we checked in half day early so they charged us 50% which is fair, I think… plus they let us check out later – normally noon but we could stay to 3pm)

At the outset, let me say this is not a hotel by any means. It's better to call a guest house. It has only 11 rooms. What it appears an entire 3/4 bedroom apartment on the first floor of a multi-storied building (I'm forgetting the name of the apartment) has been converted into a guest house. The rear portion of the first floor, which is in all probability a different apartment makes up for the remaining part of the guest house. The living-cum-dining room of the apartment has been converted into the dining hall, which can accommodate only two couples at a time. The kitchen doesn't look like the one we normally see at hotels. Instead, it resembles that of a 3/4 bed apartment with a store room. It serves only vegetarian food.

The rooms are really small ... not much of a space to move around. Most importantly, there's no difference between deluxe and super-deluxe rooms. We had booked one Super-Deluxe room but what we got really surprised us. The Super-Deluxe option available at the time of booking is just a trick to fox a traveler to earn a few extra bucks. However, the rooms are neat and clean, and well-appointed. Though they are supposed to provide refills for tea and coffee everyday on their own, you always have to ask for them. Wifi is pathetic … it just didn’t work for a moment.

The rooms offer absolutely zero views. Without AC, you can’t think of staying inside. The worst thing about a room is that you tend to feel claustrophobic after some time as you just can’t open the windows. Not even you can think of removing the blinds. Else you lose all your privacy. The balcony next building is just in front of your room windows. The place is certainly not recommended for people who want to spend more time in hotels and less outside. This is particularly suitable for business travelers or for people who go out in the morning and comes back late in the evening.

The complimentary breakfast was OK. Just once we had ordered for meal. The quality was quite good. The best thing about this place is that within a 2 km radius you have some of the best places to eat in Kolkata, including the famous Dhaba in Ballygunj and of course the 6 Ballygunj Place, which is famous for its Bengali cuisine.

The bathroom is certainly not up to the standard they are charging for a room. The bath area gets waterlogged fast. The worst part is that there’s no exhaust fan in the bathroom that makes life absolutely miserable and smelly. However, you get hot water 24 hours. You can’t expect boiler in such a small place. Water pressure is also fine, which ensures you spend less time under the shower.

Relax Inn is not the kind of place that offers you the true value for money if you are willing to shell out to the tune of ` 3700 – ` 4000 per night. Much better offers are available on the net. In fact, if you are willing to spend ` 4000 per night all inclusive, you can easily spend a few hundreds more for a better deal from many other hotels, some of which are hotels in the real sense. The manner in which it has been described as a 3 star property on some websites, is totally misleading. Some of the reviews about this hotel on this website also appear not genuine as we could make out once we landed there. This is one grey area, which TripAdvisor must look into. Else travelers are bound to be taken for a ride, especially in places like Kolkata where small hotels have mushroomed up in apartments, most of them claiming to be 3 star properties. It’s not worth spending ` 3700 per night at Relax Inn. Anything in the range of ` 2000-2500 is perfect for this place.

Nevertheless, you won’t regret staying here. Atleast we didn’t. We had a great time at Relax Inn. And of course sweet memories about this place, which happen to be more precious. The rooms are neat and clean. You will definitely enjoy your night’s sleep. The room service people are well-mannered, though occasionally they took longer time to attend you. I don’t know how they manage if all the rooms are booked. The food is good if you are OK with veg meals. The place, though not centrally-located in a strict sense of the term, it is very conveniently located for travelers. Within a stone-throwing distance of Ballygunj Crossing, one of the busiest intersections of the city. You can easily access Gariahat, South Kolkata’s best shopping hub, which boasts of having some of the city’s best jewelers, and retailers dealing in readymade garments, electronics, and of course Pantaloons and the famous Bengali sweet makers. One can easily access Science City, Milan Mela Ground (Kolkata’s very own Pragati Maidan), Airport, Outram Ghat, and Central Kolkata from this place. Safely recommended for single ladies. However, if you are traveling on your own vehicle, this place is a strict no no.

The rooms adjacent to dining hall offers no privacy. The best rooms – 105 and 106, where you can truly Relax.

Room Tip: Go for Room No 105 or 106

I arrive at around 12 am in night and the first impression was great... i asked if there is anything to eat... but they said cook is done for day, still the cook got up and made me bread omlette and apologized that he could not make me anything better.

WOW.. IMPRESSED. I really wished this 'wow' feeling would have continued but it no it did not. Even though it was not bad too. The negatives that come up are as below -

1. Understand the hotel is more of service apartment. There is no restaurant but a homely cook so options in food are limited and only veg. If you want Non-Veg you can tell room service who will get non-veg from some dhaba near the hotel. The dhaba non-veg is decent. But except limited veg options in hotel. And also for outside food you have to pay cash.

2. Even Laundry is done from outside. So expect to pay in cash. They dont adjust these things in final bill. Cash might become headache if you are like me, who doesn't keep much in pocket, instead relying on card.

3. The rooms are nicely done but they are not big. Although, not too small too cramp or scare you. But if you like big rooms, this might not be a place. The rooms are clean though. Mini Bar is there.

4. Toilet is good but i wish they had running hot water, waiting for geyser to heat up stuff is time consuming. Also, on my second day the bathroom roof started to leak and they could not helo me out in that for full night. Next day though plumber got it right.

5. Service is great in this place. Good room service guys no doubt, but not good to see the cook and room service guy hanging around you on your last day for tip. Lot of foreigners stay in this place so i guess these people have started to expect big tips and for stingy person like me, i hate giving any tip. Anyways your call on this.

6. Location - Well it's not quiet in center of city. Far from airport and Sealdah station. Though Howrah is nearby, still half an hour distance by taxi. Finding the hotel might be little tough if taxi guy does not know.

Overall, would i be looking forward to visit this place again. No, i would prefer more of hotel atmosphere than service apartment. If someone book me in this place would i be unhappy? No, i would ok ok.

Anything under 3000 bucks for this hotel is fine. One thing is for sure, you wont regret your stay here.

This unpretentious hotel is very sound and, as the name suggests, pretty relaxed. It's on a street that gives you a few strolling, eating and even drink-purchasing options. Reliable middle of the night transfer pick-up - highly recommended in Kolkata as elsewhere in India. Room was clean, comfortable and fully functional. Some people on reception are fluent in English, others less so, but there's a generally helpful attitude overall. Breakfast is offered, although it's not great - we only bothered the first day. Our room was around the breakfast 'foyer' area on the first floor, and sound proofing could be a problem IF there was a lot of noise in the foyer, though I should stress when we were there there wasn't. Other rooms further back in the hotel seemed more spacious, although be aware that the noise of a water pump (which explains the excellent water supply in the hotel) cuts in very loudly at 7am and runs for three hours affecting some of them. If you fancy a morning lie-in, you wouldn't want to be in one of these rooms. Overall Relax Inn is a good option, where I would stay again. Only slight gripe would be poor breakfast and that Relax charged a half-night for our (very!) early check-in. This was fair enough, as we'd made full use of the facilities, however there had been an understanding that there wouldn't be an extra charge.....just a communication problem I suspect. Overall, Relax Inn makes for a relaxin' base for a stay in a pretty full-on city.

Room Tip: It's a quiet spot, but heed the comments in the review if you're sensitive to noise issues.
