This was one of the best vacations we've ever had as a family! We had a beautiful condo (The Inn at Dauphin Island, used VRBO) facing the Gulf. Each day we could decide to use one of the two pools at the condo or walk the lovely boardwalk to the beach. We wanted beachfront without busy, and that's what we got. No blaring music, no cussing teens/YA. You do have the view of the oil rigs, but at night they look like lit-up cruise ships. Go to the public beach ($) and pick up shells on the Bay side.
Thanks to our love of geocaching, we saw all the sights of the island during our week-long trip. There aren't many restaurants, so longer stays will need to do some cooking, but we enjoyed pizza, Islanders, JT's, Skinners, Pirate's Pleasure (breakfast was better than lunch), roadside BBQ and soft-serve ice cream, and the legendary Lighthouse Bakery. Just enough to see and do on this island. You can always take the ferry to the other side of the Bay and see Gulf Shores (we didn't bother). First vacation I was not tired from when I got home!
My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days and decided on Dauphin Island. The condo is very tastefully decorated and very clean. It's located right on the beach and we experienced no glitches . Completely enjoyed our stay ....only regret is we both wished we had booked a couple more nights !
