“Enjoyed our stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

We attended a conference here in mid-October and were pleased with the facility. The meeting rooms were comfortable and adequate. The place was good for our group since there were no stairs to go up or down to our meeting rooms. The food was good and we especially enjoyed the Sunday buffet ($10) before the conference began. We had similar problems that another reviewer had with a couple of spiders in our ground floor room and another attendee had to have her room sprayed because of the mosquitoes (but that might have been the love bugs still around). After this, we didn't go out on our patio for fear of them coming into our room.
We did enjoy the very large room with the 2 separate sink areas (ideal for 2 women trying to get ready each day). My bed was very comfortable.
I would like to come back to this hotel with my husband and tour the area. The historic homes were just beautiful but we just didn't have time to do much driving around. We don't golf or have a boat so I don't know much about these areas. The cabins/cottages looked very nice, but again, I didn't get first hand information about these.

We had the "suite" room. It was very nicely remodeled, very large room, balcony with table/chairs, fridge, and very large bathroom with two separate vanities (one in an area and another in the shower area). Very peaceful and relaxing. One problem, you have to pay to dock your boat over night in a separate area and drive back and forth. The resort really should look into a docking area for your boat there. Likely won't go back due to that. But nice place for a quick stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Lakepoint State Park Resort Lodge for one night on September 22, 2013 and could not wait to leave the next morning. Although the staff was very nice and the room recently renovated the entire area around the hotel and golf course was infested with love bugs. They were so thick in the air that they flew into our car every time we opened the door. The outdoor walkway in front of our lodge room was covered with these nasty little bugs and they flew into our hotel room every time we opened the door. We even caught them crawling under the hotel room door. When we played golf on the park golf course that afternoon we discovered that the infestation was just as bad on the golf course and we had to put the windshield up on our golf cart. They covered the cart seats and flew into our hair and our golf bags. We later learned that September is the peak season for love bugs in Alabama, and that these creatures are attracted to warm areas such as the exhaust and engine block of automobiles.

Aside from the miserable love bug plague, our room was recently renovated and comfortable although a bit dirty from the love bugs as well as some spider webs around the hinges on the inside of our room door. My wife also found a huge roach in the bathtub which I was summoned to dispatch. The bed was comfortable and there was a nice work desk and good wi-fi reception in the room. Our view of the lake was diminished because of the bare dirt shoreline just outside our tiny ground floor balcony. Also, the outdoor ice machine alcove was moldy and covered with green slime under the ice machine.

For golfers, be advised that the golf course at Lakepoint State Resort Park is in very poor condition. The greens are covered with brown areas and are pitted in many locations. Also, the golf cart paths are dangerously pitted with large pot holes and have been completely eroded in other places.

Although we couldn't wait to leave, we decided to have breakfast in the lodge restaurant which was supposed to open at 7:00 a.m. When we arrived promptly at 7:00 we were told that the restaurant was not open yet. We finally were seated about 10 to 15 minutes later and ordered breakfast. The food was very good but the service was a bit slow.

Although we love Alabama, we will probably not return to Lakepoint State Park.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor nearest to the main lodge entrance because the view of the lake i...

We have stayed in the hotel a long time ago since the state park has been here awhile. It was renovated a few years ago and they did a really nice job. They also built cottages on the lake and we stayed in a 2 Bedroom. It has a full kitchen, back porch with fan, two bedrooms and a living area. Very nicely done. It however, only has one TV. We did look at an Executive Suite and we will be staying in one in Nov. as they did not have any cottages available. Suite was renovated nicely as well. We brought our bikes and biked over to the camp grounds as there is a road over the busy Highway. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant one morning but we are still talking about how good it was and the price was very reasonable.

It is a state park in a smaller city but we felt they have done a good job on updating it.

Room Tip: There are only a few cottages and they book fast. Ask for the Senior discount and starting in Novemb...

We stayed in the hotel and stayed in an executive suite for 2 nights. It was very nice, comfortable, reasonably priced and more than we expected. It had a living room, dining room, kitchen with refrigerator, sink and microwave (no stove) 2 flat screen TVs and 3 AC units. The bedroom was huge! The bath had a tub with shower and in a separate room the largest (extra) shower I have ever seen. We golfed at the Lakepoint State Golf Course which was not crowded and very reasonably priced. We ate a buffet breakfast at the lodge which was delicious for $7.99. They had a nice swimming pool which you almost had to yourself and of course there is fishing and boats to rent if you wish. Eufaula is a great place to visit and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet place to go.

Room Tip: The hotel's Executive Suite was just like staying in your own home.

We stayed in the hotel and spent more for an executive suite thinking it would be nicer. It wasn't what I expected. I tried to reserve a room on the lake when I booked but they said they don't do that. When I checked in, they gave me a choice of a downstairs room or an upstairs room. I specifically asked if either were on the lake and didn't get an answer. They said you could "sorta see the lake." I asked if there was a balcony from the room and was told yes. Chose the 2nd floor for that reason and turns out there is no balcony, just dirty windows on the lakeside, which you can see through trees.

The room was clean but there were only 2 pillows on the bed. We slept horribly the first night and the next morning I requested 2 more pillows but they were never delivered. I had to go get some from the front desk before bed that evening. When housekeeping came by, they did not do anything but deliver towels and make the bed. We had made coffee the first day and they did not give us anymore for the next day. We were low on toilet paper and they did not leave more, but took the empty cardboard.

We went so that we could enjoy some downtime and golf. The website says the golf course is open until 6 pm, and we went late in the day at 5 pm because it had stormed earlier in the day and then got very hot. No one was there. Everything was locked up. I called the phone number with no answer, so then I called the front desk at the lodge to find out why. All they said was that they close at 4:00, then someone else said 4:30 pm. The website specifically states 6 pm and you can golf until sundown. We ended up going to another course in town to golf.

The restaurant's food was not good at all. We ate at the seafood buffet the first night and it was obvious most everything was from frozen, processed food. The same thing with a lot of the breakfast items. It was cold, and we even ate early. Their appetizers at dinner were the same. The entrees tasted good but the steaks were delivered in 2 pieces because they didn't cut them right, so they weren't cooked well either. My blended drink was chunky with ice and I could not drink it with a straw until a lot of it melted. On a positive note, the servers in the restaurant were the sweetest and most helpful people at the entire lodge.

It was pretty quiet and peaceful except for Saturday night. They had a group in the lodge for dinner and it was in one of the party rooms. It was very loud. There was very little parking for the guests staying in the hotel because of their party that night.

Oh and just a warning, the water is very hard there. I could barely get the shampoo out of my hair and the shower had good pressure. It most likely wouldn't be a bad place to go for camping or staying in a cottage (which we wanted but they were booked), but for the $300 I spent on the room including taxes for 2 nights and the $100+ I spent on the restaurant for a frozen seafood buffet, one breakfast buffet, and one dinner for 2, it wasn't worth it.

Wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was. We stayed in the hotel, though there are options to stay in cabins or cottages. The hotel was very clean, reasonably priced, & we had a room right by the lake. They have a restaurant on site too which wasn't bad at all. We went to fish, but there is also a golf course we might try out next time. They have a pools but it was kind of small & always crowded with people so we didn't do that either.
