“Great complex but Condo #870 NOT SO GREAT!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

Island Winds West complex was great. Great location, great pool and beach access. The staff were all very nice and helpful. However the condo (#870) was not so great. The condo had many broken items such as master bedroom toilet, toilet paper holder, paper towel holder, towel racks, tile on kitchen counter, closet doors and flooring in master bedroom moved around as you walk on it. The master bathroom shower faucet did not turn off all the way and dripped constantly. The toilet did not flush. The floor had mold around the bath tub. The bedding is old and has rips in the bed skirts. The walls are dirty and needs to be painted. The sofa sleeper was terrible. The mattress could not even hold a 60lbs 9 year old. The bottom of the sofa mattress frame was ripped so the mattress would not stay on the frame. All of the furniture is old and stained. The condo is very out dated and needs a good deep cleaning. The pots and pans in the kitchen were very old and bent. We tired making breakfast the first morning we were there but the pans were so poor that we could not use them. The sink in the kitchen leaks onto the floor. We didn't go for the condo we went for the beach but this condo was terrible. I think the owners need to spend some time working on this condo before it is rented again. There are many condos in this complex so for the price rent a different one do not rent #870. We told the lady at the front desk about all the items within the first hour that we were there. She said she would document all of this however I still took pictures of all the items for my own documentation. We will rent at the complex again but will NOT rent this condo again. With a little updating and a good cleaning this could be a very nice condo. I would rate the complex as a 4 out of 5. I would rate the condo #870 as a 1 out of 5.

Great location and price. Check in was simple, but would have been nice if staff would have offered some advice for first time visitors. The condo itself was ok, the floors needed to be mopped, the beds where hard, one of the toilets hardly would flush and the balcony had peeling paint. One of our keys did not work took two days to get a key.

It was nice to be able to walk to the beach and the view was nice for a side balcony view.

Room Tip: Great location and price. Would try the building again, but not 271.

We have stayed at Island Winds West two times now and can't wait for the third! We stayed in 674 and everything was great! The beach was great and we rented chairs on the beach at a lower weekly rate, caught fish and crabs, picked up shells and found sand dollars and starfish. We love this area and have really enjoyed this condo (hence our multiple visits). Great area for kids and adults with so many fun things to do. The pool is always very clean and fun for everyone. So close to everything in the Gulf Shores area with it's central location. I have read some bad reviews in the past but we have never had a bad experience and can't wait to get back!!!

Room Tip: Can't think of any good ideas for the condo but there are $45 paragliding if you look for it and...

We stayed in 375. Place is very family oriented. We enjoyed our stay with the great view of the Gulf of Mexico. Easy access to the beach and nice pool for the kids. We were told by some people that we need to try to stay at the Phoenix next time. The unit needs some minor repairs but overall it was a nice place to stay

“Probably would not stay there again”

3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago for a stay in July 2014

I posted this review a couple of weeks ago and the review was in reference to Island Winds West and East even though we stayed in the West building of the complex. The management of East apparently was upset with my review, replied to it, then deleted it. So, I am posting it here again. That being said, I would not stay at Island Winds East either, because the main office for IWW in is the IWE building. They are the same complex, only one is rented out by Brett Robinson and one is rented out by Anchor Realty or private owners. We were told by the security that the two companies don't like each other, which is proving to be true. I traveled with my husband and son and stayed at Island Winds West (which I clearly stated in my original review) unit 271, for a baseball tournament in Gulf Shores. The majority of our team stayed in either IWW or IWE. The condo is in a decent location and close to a lot of restaurants, souvenir shops, etc., but it is a very busy area since the public beach is right next to it. Our particular condo was desperately in need of a good cleaning and a paint job, and the other team parents echoed that same remark regarding their condos. If I had had a toddler with us, I would not have wanted them crawling on the floors...dirty baseboards, dirty walls, and paint chipping terribly on the door on the balcony. The condo had all of the basic necessities, beds were fairly comfortable, and the view was good for a 2nd floor side view. It just wasn't nearly as nice as other condos we have stayed in in the area. Brett Robinson was ok to deal with. However, our condo was supposed to have a hair dryer and it didn't. I requested one on Sunday, from the main office in Island Winds East, and they put in a work order twice, but we never got one and I finally had to go to Wal-mart and buy one mid-week. Not a big deal, but just seems like something simple that they could have addressed. I also emailed Brett Robinson letting them know about the hairdryer and the condo being one of the most run-down units that we have rented from them but got no response. They do have an office and security which is staffed 24/7 should you need something. Pools were small; no hot tub. Nicer places to stay, but the price was right so I guess you get what you pay for. Room tip: If you choose a side-view room, choose one on the ends of the building, not between the East and West buildings; they can be noisy with people talking, trucks backing up, security guards talking late at night and early mornings.

The beach is beautiful and well maintained
The only negative is the building and unit is a little old but clean and well maintained
Great family vacation spot.
building manager Brett/Robinson vacations was on premise 24 hours a day and very efficient check in/check out

We have vacationed at this building for years. The location is excellent & within comfortable walking distance for most places. Right on the beautiful beach so the view is always fabulous! The unit we stayed in this time was clean, updated, & comfortable. The building is pretty "soundproof" so even when full you don't have lots of noise, which we love. The prices are great also! This building is a perfect place for families on vacation. No, it isn't the newest or the fanciest building on the beach but it has everything that typical families are looking for in a vacation spot. We genuinely enjoyed our stay here & will definitely return.
The only minor downside was that the parking lot tends to fill up quickly, but they do have a super friendly attendant who helps to resolve this & at times we just chose to take the short beach stroll to dinner instead of drive anyway.

Room Tip: Always get a gulf front unit!!!
