“Good value and good food”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Not spectacular service but food was good--not spectacular--but good. Waiter was unenthusiastic. Drink were tasty but slow to the table and it wasnt rush time. Liked chips and salsa--got guac also. Liked the smashed beans and rice as well as my beef chimi.

“Best Margaritas and Staff”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 via mobile

I have gone here with a bunch of girlfriends and decided to take my twin 4yr olds and husband for an early Mother's Day. The staff was amazing and so was the food. I just wish they had tacos on the kids menu. Other than that we had an amazing dinner!

“Food fresh”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Visited here today after reading reviews. We had Baja tacos and chicken chimi. Food was fresh and tacos were good. Chimi was bland compared to other Tex-Mex type restaurants. Rice and black beans were very good. Service was good. Disappointed that chips were the type you get from a bag. Not what we normally get.

“A tad away from being 4 stars”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

Who goes to the beach and eats Mexican, right? We were off the island doing some shopping and needed a convenient place to eat and Cactus Flower came highly recommended. It was a good recommendation.

It bills itself as California Style Mexican with food that’s prepared fresh to order, not pre-measured, pre-cut or pre-prepared from frozen. That commitment to freshness is noticeable right away when chips and salsa arrive. These are excellent chips and the salsa is bursting with fresh tomato flavor. Both are memorable.

My Mahi Fish Tacos not quite as much. I didn’t find a lot of flavor and the only reason Cactus Flower doesn’t get 4 stars is because my first two bites yielded a fishy taste, a no-no for seafood. I was surprised to discover after the fact that my tacos came with citrus lime dressing, fresh pico de gallo and creamy lime sauce. If present the flavors were way too subtle and need to be intensified.

The attention to detail carries over to presentation, too.

Service was spot on with recommendations on best dishes and what combinations work best, i.e. Spanish rice vs. lime/cilantro rice, smashed pintos vs. black beans, ground beef vs. shredded. Listen to your server. They will steer you well.

This is a well-executed menu, committed to fresh food served in a cozy, comforting atmosphere. It’s definitely worth putting on your list of restaurants to visit at the beach and is located in the Pelican Place Shopping Center just across from the Cobb Theatres.

“At last some good Mexican food in Gulf Shores”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

This is a nice clean restaurant with good service, reasonable prices, and some great California Mexican food. Warning! If you want a menu of Mexican combinations all served with rice & beans and numbered then you should look elsewhere..This place is a real California place with fresh ingredients, nice seasoning and the best fish tacos(Baja style) around. We'll go back again!
