When the hubs and I first hit the Shrimp Basket in 2000, it was just a little shack in Gulf Shores. Now, there are Shrimp Basket restaurants all over South Alabama! They have good, solid seafood dishes and you can eat there on a budget. Not much in the way of atmosphere or ambiance, but who cares? I'm there to eat seafood.
Their gumbo was thick and smoky and filled with seafood. The shrimp etouffee was also very good. My only complaint was the fried shrimp/etouffee combo had frozen popcorn shrimp instead of fresh fried Gulf shrimp. If it had noted this on the menu, I would have known ahead of time, but it wasn't. I would recommend the menu reflect when frozen shrimp is used in a dish. The shrimp slaw, however, was prime.
The hubs had clam strips and fried shrimp; his shrimp was fresh fried and very good. He said the clams were good, too.
The menu is online, so you can check out their prices, which are very good, considering this is seafood. We will be back.
