“Enjoyed our stay”

We really enjoyed our stay in Gulf Shores. The hotel was a little dated and confusing to get to the wing where our room was located but other than that everything was wonderful. To have the beach front view and being able to walk out of the hotel onto the beach every day was awesome. We will definitely come back.

The service and staff at this hotel were wonderful. They accommodated myself and my guests in a lovely room with an great oceanview. Clean rooms and right in the middle of plenty of food and fun. Great stay overall!!

If your wanting an ocean view room and a beautiful beach this was a great place to stay. My recommendations....time to update the hotel (hallways were very dark and the rooms need updating...larger bathroom, updated fixtures. I would have loved to have a free breakfast each morning and an exercise room as well. And it would have been nice when we checked in (or even posted on the website) that the lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach are NOT part of the hotel and cost by the hour or day to use. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Again the view was SUPERB

I had a great trip. The front desk took great care of us and was very helpful. The rooms are clean and the beds are awesome. You are right on the beach which was nice to be able to come and go as you please. They also have the best breakfast around. If you are looking for a nice room on the the beach this is it.

Room Tip: Beach front room makes you feel like you are on the beach

Enjoyed staying here. We wanted a place with a good view of the beach and we got it. Staff was really friendly and helpful.

Wi-fi worked great and they were in the process of updating it as we were leaving.

Convenient to a lot of great restaurants and there are several within walking distance.

Not the most luxurious place, but it's clean and nice. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a room on the beach side.

6 (2 adults, 6 kids) of us travelled to the Gulf Shores, AL Best Western in June '14 for vacation. Everything was booked early in the year because of baseball tournaments.
Location: Fantastic, right on the beach.
Room: Below Average
Service: Terrible

Room decor is a few decades behind, but not a huge concern as we spent most of the time on the beach, or exploring/sailing... The room furniture and amenities left a lot to be desired:
+ No one was permitted to sit in the 2 wooden chairs for fear that they would collapse. The owner wan't the least bit interested when brought to his attention.
+ The hair dryer fell apart the first time we tried to use it. It was replaced within a day by a helpful and friendly maintenance person.
+ The smoke alarm went off while the kids were there, and adults were at the grocery store. My 15 year old handled it well, calling the front desk, after assuring there was not a fire. There was no general building alarm, and the front desk didn't know until she called. Miantenance came up, cleaned the A/C heat exchanger, and we didn't have another problem, except for the A/C noise because he left the cover loose.
+ Indoor pool is monitored by cameras, but no one monitors the cameras. There is no smoking or drinking permitted in the pool area. It's only available to guests. We tried the pool one afternoon to get out of the sun. A young man was in the pool. He moved to the whirlpool when we arrived. He was smoking, drinking from a bottle wrapped in a towel, and staring at the kids. He left for a ninute and returned with another bottle wrapped in a towel. He dried off and left after ~1 hr, getting in his car and driving away. Discussed this with the owner, to protect his guests in case the guy came back. His response was always to explain about his sophisticated camera system. He didn't acknowledge that the cameras are no good if no one is watching them.
+ Biggest inconvenience was the clogged toilet. It took more than 3 hours for the clog to be cleared. There were no maintenance people at the hotel at 9PM. The desk person was newer, and alone. She couldn't find a plunger (I would have plunged it myself). After several calls, over 2 hours, I went to the desk and insisted that she call the manager. She would not allow me to talk to the manager. The manager showed up with a brand new Wal-mart plunger and cleared the clog after 11 PM, 3 hrs after the first call. I had 4 worn-out kids that wanted to sleep in preparation for their last day of vacation. The manager, a very nice young man that turned out to be the owner's son, left us a free meal voucher for their pancake house, and said he would discuss the 'unacceptable situation' with the general manager.
+ We used the voucher the next day at the pancake house. The food was good, service was extremely slow, and the prices were very high. We wouldn't have eaten there if we were paying.

We discussed the stay with the owner the morning we were heading home. His mantra was that he'd been in this business for 30 years. He wasn't interested in talking spedifics, or acknowledging any problems with his hotel. After more than 30 minutes of listening to him talk about his 30 years of experience and his state of the art camera system, we had to hit the road and start home. We left with $50 credited to our card.

30 years of experience can mean that you know what you're doing, or that you've lived for a while. In this case, it just meant he'd been alive for a while. I will return to Gulf Shores, it was great. I will never stay at the Best Western on the beach again.

Room Tip: Choose a room at another hotel.

My family had great time staying here. Great location and very helpful on what too do and where
to dine. I enjoyed the pancake house being there also. Awesome location to everything. I would recommend to book during week if possible save almost half the money. Would stay here again.
