“First visit to Goa”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

Just returned to England after our first visit to Goa, stayed at the Horizon Hotel in Calangute. we had the most amazing time in Goa, had mixed feelings prior to going after watching various videos and reading reviews of the area and the hotel. It was a culture shock on arrival. Absorb the culture, cows wandering in the streets, shacks and restaurants you wouldn't necessarily frequent in England, don't let this put you off eating there, we have had fabulous food, The hotel is very clean, and the service was excellent from all of the staff. The rooms are basic but were spotlessly cleaned everyday, nothing was too much trouble, Charlie one of the waiters treated us like royalty, he went above and beyond for us. We took expensive mosquito spray from England, Dont waste your money the mozzies are oblivious to it and had a field day on my legs, bought the local Odamus lotion for about 100 rupees about a £1, it also comes in a spray but the lotion can be used like a moisturiser and mozzies seemed to like this less, also bought some citronella oil which can be applied neat onto the skin, this worked better than anything, We bought some mozzie coils for about 50p for a pack on 8, burn them on your balcony to keep them away.

Room Tip: we had room 101 which appears to be the biggest room, facing overlooking the bar but having looked a...

Stayed here for two weeks. Have loved every minute. Charlie our waiter has looked after us so well, and treated us with respect. He has made our holiday. We have ate here a few times, it has been lovely. We had our fresh lobster cooked here, it was amazing. Was a little apprehensive about coming here, but seriously no need to worry. Only down side is the Russians have arrived!!!

Staff and service are excellent. Very friendly . Treat you like family. The only fault we had with this hotel is that the beds were not very comfortable but everything else overrides this. Will definitely be going back.

We stayed at horizon along with friends. Great fun with the pool and the cheap beer. For the Non vegetarians, the food is supposed to be amazing. Veggies can make do with the breads and the fruits & cereals.

The clean pool is a big bonus to laze around.

Definitely worth a stay

Just come back from Goa, after 2 weeks, had a really good time, the hotel room was a good size and clean with a fan and air conditioning. The pool and the pool area was nice and clean. The food at the hotel was really good, the chef at hotel was excellent, he would go out of his way to cook you amazing food, to your taste. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, there were no problems. I would definitely go back to the hotel.

Stayed here last November for 2 weeks - great place!
Room was clean, a very good size and we got a pool view. Having a ceiling fan and also air conditioning in the room was a lovely break from the heat. Fridge in kitchen area which was stocked every day with water, beer etc for a very very cheap price.
Staff were lovely, could not do enough for us.
The location is great, right in the centre of Calangute, but just setback from the hustle and bustle. It is a nice quiet hotel away from beeping cars and cows! (but literally a 2 minute walk to the chaos!).
Breakfast was nice, from reading about other hotels the horizon seemed to offer a lot, breads, cereal, eggs made how you want them, fruit and another hot extra (beans, sausage etc). Day time and evening food also very good, nice range of both English and Indian food.
Would come back to the horizon - great hotel, lovely staff, definitely a country to visit!

Room Tip: Email the manager for a pool view!
