When we first arrived, we were in complete shock as the hotel was behind such a run down and poverty striken area. Once inside, we were welcomed warmly and our room was very clean and spacious. The pool was quite small but that was nice as you didnt have lots of kids jumping in and out. It was quite a private hotel. Our room was cleaned daily and the only insects that were found in our room, were ants and that was only because we had spilt pringles everywhere! The shower was a little shabby and the water was quite dirty but thats only because we were in India. The food was delicious and the staff were always so happy and helpful. We ended up giving our room guy our nike trainers! We didnt go all inclusive as it was so cheap out there. We would go back in a heart beat, but would also like to experience other hotels.

My sister and I stayed in this quiet hotel March2010 It has a good size swimming pool which has nice temperature . Shaded in the afternoon. Adequate amount of sunbeds although they could be updated, large reception area. Very good room service. Didn't experience the lift alarrm I'd previously read about. Would go back & stay in this hotel

We had a ball @ the Horizon. Its smack right in the centre of Calangute but away from the noise. The staff were great especially Robert.

The rooms were Ok, maybe need a little spruce up, but you are in Goa but the AIR CON WAS FANTASTIC. The rooms were cleaned everyday.
Breakfasts were fine, eggs to order etc....

Just what you want as a base for exploring!!

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Horizon. Pictures are flattering and do not truly reflect the standard of the hotel. It just needs a "tidy up" - rooms need to be repainted, bathrooms updated and thicker mattresses on the beds!! The rooms were quite small, but maybe we had been spoilt as we had stayed at the Nizmar. We asked for and got one of the larger rooms, which is more like an apartment, which was better. (Ask for one of the number 1 rooms). Hotel did our laundry and ruined some of the clothes, but with the Rep's help, they reimbursed us the cost of replacing the items - fair play to them. Breakfast's were the same each day, with a "daily special" e.g. baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc. Staff were very nice, our room boy was Robert, fantastic, couldnt do enough for us. The taxi drivers outside are persistent even by Goan standards. The taxi driver we used to travel around, found out our room number and rung to see if we wanted to go anywhere, despite telling him that we had no plans to leave the resort for the remainder of our holiday and wouldnt take no for an answer when we said that we would be using our coach transfer to go to the airport to return home. Hotel needs to have tighter control over them. It's sold as a 3 star, but it's more like a 2 star. Even the hotel group, D'Souza states that it's a budget hotel, so maybe it's down to Airtours to reclassify it as we wouldnt have stayed there if we knew it was a budget hotel.

we loved our stay at the horizon, the staff were friendly , our room boy robert did an excellant job keeping it clean and tidy, loved his towel art! also was nice to have breakfast outside,it was a nice quiet hotel, i dont know how , cos as soon as you walked to end of track, was like a mad house , cars hooting, taxis, drivers wanting customers, realy busy, you risked life and limb crossing road! lots of people returned there year after year, and a lot knew each other, there was a fridge in room fully stocked you just took what you wanted and they replaced it beer, coke, orange, and lemon bacardi breezers on request!!all at minimal charge water 15 r coke 20r (about 30p)beer about 50p!,all in all great holiday, will be back next year!

We had a ten day stay booked as part of a package but had to leave after three nights becasue the lift alarm would go off all night, sometimes for +20 minutes. The alarm itself was two bars of a Rolf Harris/Styraphone version of Twnkle Twinkle Little Star, over and over and over again..

Everyday they said they'd turned it off but never did and they were suprised when we told them we'd be checking out early. They refused to give us a refund and when we asked them to put that in writing so that we could prove it with the booking agent they again refused.

Other than that the rooms were tired and in need of a lot of work. Cleanliness was poor, towells and sheets really need changing more frequently with all that red dust around. The pool area was immaculatly kept though and we didn't mind the lack of sun around it. We only used it at the end of a day's exploring. We didn't eat at the hotel but the food looked good.

The location is good enough, if you want to be in the centre of Calangute, but Calangute wasn't the experience we wanted: 'British' pubs, high pressure street hawkers, overcrowded beach and just a general feeling that you as a tourist are ruining this area.

It was an economical among all the de souza hotels. Food was good. Room was neat, but need maintenance. Lot of foreign crowd. They arranged two wheeler on rent, which was a good experience. Karokke shows were good.
