This is our 2nd year at the Osborne and we enjoyed our holiday. You have to accept you are in a 2 star hotel in India. Relax and you will enjoy. If you go looking for problems you will find them. The Osborne has okay rooms and not so okay rooms. We initially were put in a not so good room but after speaking to the nice Reception staff they moved us to a room in phase 3. This was the phase we stayed in on our last visit. The electricity went off alot, the shower was sometimes warm sometimes cold and you hang your clothes up in a metal wardrobe. If you find any of these faults a problem then the Osborne isn't for you. The rooms are cleaned daily but if you aren't happy with anything they'll correct it. But be reasonable...a pillow, bed sheets they can change but they cannot re decorate or get you a double duvan.
There is plenty of places to eat, drink and sightsee nearby. The best 2 restaurants we discovered were I95 and Chef Suoymen Kitchen. Both of these restaurants are slightly more expensive for Goa but have 5* service and food. Our favourite Beach Shack was Aggies Cafe which has excellent food. Aggie and his staff will look after you very well and they don't allow beach sellers near you. Upstairs in Babutes has the best people watching bar in Calangute, great for watching the crazy world go by below.
One small tip for first timers...don't let the Taxi drivers organise your holiday. They sit outside reception and if you let them would organise your entire holiday with trips. Use the Tuk Tuk's. They are much better fun and the drivers don't try and sell you trip after trip.
Go to the Osborne and enjoy Goa!

just returned after 2 weeks in the osborne . stayed in phase 3 , friends in phase 1 and phase 2 . cannot see the difference between phases as you can use all 3 pools & 4 bars in the hotel , maybe it depends on whether you like a sitting room . rooms were fine , could be cleaned better also new bedding would be nice as its a bit old & stained but its no big deal. most of the staff were lovely especially peter the bar manager on phase 3 , the waiters on phase 2 were the best laugh , they also kept the bar open later !!! the security guards are just too cute , they are about 5 stone wet through & look about 12 yrs old !!! i didnt use my meal vouchers at the hotel so i cant comment on the food but the selection available looked fine & judging by the amount of people eating it , i presume its tastes fine . this hotel is perfectly located for getting around the candolim. calangute & baga area , it is also around 10 minutes walk to the beach. as a first timer to goa i cant compare this hotel with any others , but i can recommend it & wouldnt hesitate to come back .

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Goa having stayed at the Osborne Hotel phase 2. The rooms were more than adequate, the bathroom and adjoing room with large sink were clean and the fridge was always topped up with water, beer and soda. The linen and towels were changed every day. The sheets are not brilliant white due to the laundry process but were clean. The staff were lovely and greeted you whenever you saw them. The reception staff were very helpful giving us information about buses and places to visit and we paid 500 rupees to keep our room until 8pm on the night of departure. Breakfast is toast and tea which seems to be universal in Goa but you could have eggs or fruit for a small charge. All in all a good experience.

I have just come back from a two week stay at the osborne hotel and really loved the hotel. Both my partner and i were a bit iffy with the idea of staying in a 2* hotel but we really loved it there, the staff were fantastic, the food was good and location fantastic (apart from having to cross a main road to get to the beach), the hotel rooms were however.... very basic. When we first arrived in the room we looked at each other and just laughed, the matress was very thin and the sheets looked a little grubby, other than that it was fine. we stayed in phase 3, which apparently is the best phase to stay in. we had heard from other people in the hotel that when they first arrived they were put into phase 1 or 2 and had asked to move to phase 3 as the rooms standards were much better there. all i can say is once you accept it for what it is and you dont have too high expectations of the place before you get there you will be fine. we are already planning out next trip back to the osborne.

Stayed here a few times in the past 10 years and have to say its getting shabby and in need of some DIY!!!

Unfortunately Goa is getting expensive now due to visa's and the russians so choose your hotel and be prepared!!

You get wat you pay for in Goa.. and this hotel isnt the cheapest!!

just back this morning after 4th stay at the osborne we will never stay there again . it has always been a basic hotel but was always clean and had great staff but all that has changed.the breakfast area was filthy never saw the floor cleaned the whole time we were there and the table cloths probably havnt been washed since last season they were disgusting . the staff seem to have been cut back so getting served or paying a bill was very hard work. the room was ok and the room boy did his best but to be honest the bedding was discoloured and was full of holes the matress was so thin it was impossible to get a decent nights sleep and the pillows were so dirty we put towels over them so we didnt have to touch them my dogs bed is cleaner than the osborne beds. we also had a huge damp patch in our room where the shower is leaking through the wall and cracked and loose floor tiles throughout the room. we spoke to other guests at the hotel who have been before and they too were saying they would not go back. the staff on reception are very rude and unhelpfull and dont seem to want to know if you have a problem. previous times we have stayed at the osborne you have been able to stay in your room till you were departing for your flight but not any more we were out of our rooms at 11 in the morning and not flying till half 1 the next night we were told we would be able to hire another room till we left but when we asked at reception they refused us a room saying they didnt have any to rent eventually they let us have a room for 15 minutes to have a shower before we left . we really loved staying at the osborne but after this year will never go back

Arrrived at the Osborne Hotel at 1.15am were shown to a room in phase 1. The room was disgusting and I would not like to think what was on the bathroom walls and doors. Went to reception and was told that they would look into it in the morning. The bed was that dirty that we slept on top of it still wearing the clothes we flew in.next morning we were shown another room that was not much better. We told the reception staff we were moving out and they then told us they had another room in phase 3 which was better so we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and give it a try.
if only we had changed hotel when we first arrived we would have had a much more pleasent stay. We have been to goa many times and fully understand the standard of hotels and rooms in goa but this does not excuse basic hygiene practice and standards. The towels which should have been cleaned every day came back smelling really badly and were odviously not washed but just dried from the previous day.
The rooms were not cleaned every day and there was a pile of rubbish outside our room that was there from the day we arrived to the day we left 3 weeks later. The phase that we stayed in constantly ran out of water at about 6.00pm just when everybody was getting ready for going out for the evening and it would take a couple of hours to refill the tank this is despite assurances from the reception that it only takes 5 minutes to get the water back on.
we didn't really use the pool bar that often but when we did we were charged for drinks that we didn't even have, one evening we had 2 bottles of 7 up but got charged for vodka, honey bee and kingfisher beer that wasn't ours.this happened on more than 1 occasion and also happened to other guests while we were there.
Many guests who were there while we were there were repeat guests who had been coming to the osborne for many years and they were shocked at how bad things were at the hotel and said that they would not be returning in the future. Apparently this was the hotel to go to a couple of years ago but not anymore.
If you have booked to go to the osborne I strongly recommend that you look at different accommodation and change because this is by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and the reception staff didn't seem to care about our complaints. There are far nicer hotels around calangute for the same price and they will definetly be a lot cleaner,
I would like to add that Peter the pool bar manager at phase 3 was a real star and helped sort out any problems we had, nothing was too much trouble for him. He always greeted you with a handshake and a smile and is a real asset to the Osborne, which it does not deserve.
