Overall a 2.5 star hotel with a 3.5 star wrapping. Overpriced and lacking service of a 4 star "resort" The stay was decent but not as expected.
We were booked in a suite. It was very spacious with a sit out balcony. That didn't help as there were lots of bugs and insects due to the foliage. The suite had 2 air conditioning units which did not work well. They kept the room cool. Old units which needed servicing and replacement. Temperature control system didn’t work. The Bed was a queen size and mattresses were comfortable. Sheets were not elegant, soft and comfortable but very mediocre and sleep-able. Very basic and bedroom didn't have the luxurious feel. Blankets and pillows were were 2.5/ 3 star quality. Again just mediocre. Room walls were not maintained well. Seems like kids had drawn over it, stains at places and not well kept. No decor at all in the room. Very basic light fittings with on and off functionality. Biggest problem was all the outlets were not universal to accommodate other plugs. Only 220V fixtures. Most hotels have a universal outlet which accommodates a 110V plug though the power supplied is 220V. Not the case here. Desk, couch served the purpose but chairs seems to have been gotten from a flea market. Not comfortable at all.
Food was edible. Had to reorder eggs 3 times on the first day. It was soaked in oil enough to give a heart attack. The staff seemed they did not want to be there with terrible service. Not paying attention to the guests sitting. Had to yell and call out to them. All of them seemed irritated and upset. Not a friendly atmosphere. Had an acceptable menu selection for a 2.5 star buffet. Deepak, one of the wait staff is the friendliest person there and only one that had a big smile at all times. Very friendly and always welcoming.
Room service was good, prompt and friendly. However the front desk staff was incompetent and not at all friendly or hospitable. Catering staff was decent and friendly. But had to keep reaching out to them for simple requests like water, spoon, napkins, salt and pepper etc. These are basic things staff needs to be trained on. Upon arriving at breakfast at 1030 there was no room and the small cafe was packed. So we requested them to have them serve us in the room. While our package included meals they said if they serve us in the room we would have to pay for it. We wanted eggs which were anyways available on the buffet menu but yet if we ordered in the room, it was to be billed extra. She lacked common sense. So we had to wait till 11 when we were finally called for breakfast.
At the time of check in, the first thing they said was we were to pay upfront. Not asking for credit card to be put on file or anything. Pay the full amount up front. Not at all a norm at any 3 star hotel. Motel 6 will ask for payment upfront. But I suppose in India people portray their own behaviors and insecurities onto others. Because they behave in a fashion to try screw over the other person they expect to be screwed over. The point being their concern was not service, not quality but get the money and then the customer can tolerate the rest since the money has already been paid and they are not going to give it back. In the hospitality business you have to provide service and earn your customers trust. Not the case here. Since they did not have the correct outlets I had asked for a converter plug. Took them 2 hours and yet nothing was sent. On calling back they still did not understand and asked if I wanted a doctor. Some of the staff can barely understand English.
HOUSEKEEPING IS A DISASTER. NO sense of hygiene. I was in the room when they came to clean it. One of the guys who was cleaning took the hand towel and started wiping the bathroom. I am watching him as he is wiping the TOILET seat and around the toilet first. Then he is wiping the sink. After which he proceed to take the drinking glasses and wipe them with that same towel. Then wipes the spoon, coffee mug and stirring spoon with that same towel. DISGUSTING!. When I pointed it out he casually apologized and went about doing his routine. He was smiling to his fellow colleague and making it seem I was crazy in telling him what he did was wrong because he always did this in every room. Beyond disgusted by this. Cant change anyones behavior. The fact that he used the hand/face towel to begin with itself is unsanitary to begin with. Who knows where that has been washed and if it has been bleached before being put back.
Then the shower was not working so I complained to the front desk. They sent someone and the guy tried to tell me everything was normal. He told me to use the shower I needed to have it scathing hot or ice cold. Cant have it in the middle. If it was anywhere in between the water would cycle thru the extremes. From scathing hot towards cold and then hot. And their explanation was "this was normal."
The manager was understanding and friendly. He moved us to another room by the evening but had the same problem. The other room had no shower door. So when someone took a shower the whole bathroom was wet.
Mentioned both these red flags to the manager on duty during check out. He apologized but that was about it. The whole method of operation is just use the word “sorry” and be done with it. However nothing else will be done to gain the customer’s confidence. No other action taken for the water or the guy who cleaned the room. The training given to them is well if the customer is upset say “sorry” and move on. Cause well we said sorry but we are not going to do anything other than that. This is why they take the money upfront as they lack in service.
Air conditioning in the new room also didn't function well.
They charge for internet which is ridiculous. internet is a basic necessity like water, climate control and a bed. But they charge ridiculous prices and it is not even high speed as they claim.
So over all a very 2.5 star hotel with a 3.5 star packaging and overly priced. Not worth it at the rate they offer. Pricing should be about 10% to 15% lower for what they offer. Overall had a comfortable stay but the red flags were bad enough to make us think twice before re visiting. With a little bit of training and the right staff this has the potential to be a good resort making the stay very pleasant.
