“Feels like home!”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

I stayed in Casa Aleixo with my mother during our recent trip to Goa. Nestled in a lush green garden, this property is a haven in the otherwise loud and happening Baga stretch. It is a century old heritage property which is now a homestay- and thanks to that it does not have the commercial hotel feel. It was a delight to meet Wilfred, the owner of this establishment. He is so gentle and charming that after interacting with him, you feel all the more happy you decided to stay at Casa Aleixo.
I want to particularly thank him for introducing us to some of North Goa's most pristine beaches which were in no way inferior to the ones you find in Phuket! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who believes in a no frills yet class environment.

Room Tip: For those on budget, go for the non AC room. It's clean and apt.

We had visited Goa many a times before, but this time we were searching for something different to stay on the calangute baga streach and we found Casa Alexio. We called Mr. Wilfed directly and spoke to him about our bookings and he was happy to grant us a room with the best rates ( Pls. dont believe the websites which claim no rooms available, call directly).

The place can best be described as a sceanic beauty, and we are sure no one can find such a property on this stretch. We visited in February 2012. We had the pleasure of interacting with the owner Mr. Wilfred and his wife. Warm, delightful and very a friendly couple. They give the place a touch of warmess and comfort. They are sure to ensure they guest have a memorable stay with extras touches of goan sweets and fruits grown on the proprety. They even gifted our daughter (2 1/2 years) a pie on our departure. A very thoughtfull and heartfell gesutre.

The place is an heaven on earth, considering it is located on the busy busy tourist road and just a few minutes walk from the beach. It is a calm, comfortable and well maintained place, with an well kept lawns and a swimming pool. The rooms are spacious. The staff is very obliging and helpfull, always ready to help. Towels for pool and beach are available. We stayed on the ground floor, with breakfast served in the lobby overlooking the garden and pool. Abundance of geenery. This place can truely be described as a HOME AWAY FROM HOME and is surely recommended for all ( Indians as well as foreign nationals) who would like to stay in a peacefull place whilst enjoying the bustle life of calangute baga area.

Room Tip: If travelling with a kid who loves running all round, the ground floor room is the best .....

This was our second stay at Casa Aleixo in 2 years, having just spent over 2 weeks here once again and look forward to returning next year. We would recommend it to anyone who likes something a little special for a holiday. The house is wonderful and perfectly situated for easy access to Calangute, Baga and Candolim. We stayed in the huge and very comfortable deluxe room with its own balcony where we were served breakfast and which is perfect for just relaxing. Although situated on the main road to Baga, the large gardens make it feel like you are in an oasis away from it all. The owner and staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The pool is an added bonus and the beach is just a few minutes walk away.

Room Tip: All rooms would appear to be quiet

We were fortunate to stay at Wilfred's casa over New Year and were not disappointed. As previously discussed, the casa is off the main road and set back in a lush beautiful garden which gives it a feel of being an oasis of calm. The staff are welcoming and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Wilfred (the owner) was extremly helpful, providing information before we arrived, organising airport transfers and was most patient when we changed dates and required an extra room for our son. He was extremely hospitable and the liitle extra touches like sweets and cake for new year made our stay memorable.

Our rooms were comfortable - we had one with ac (fan as well) both had good bathrooms and an added bonus of coffee/tea making as well as a fridge. If you needed water you just had to ask and the containers were filled. Pool towels were provided and if you required beach towels you could hire them.

We took breakfast on the top terrace, overlooking the rear garden and pool - a beautiful spot to catch the morning sunshine and enjoy the fresh picked fruit. Beer, wine and soft drinks were available - very reasonably and again, just ask a staff member and they will bring them (including wine glasses).

Walking to the beach takes approx 5 mins and is a wide long stretch of sand. The spot that you enter the beach is probably the quietist in the area, sort of inbetween calangute and baga beach and there is a huge choice of beach shacks that provide sunbeds free of charge as long as you are using them for a drink etc. Prices are some of the most reasonable we have seen in India, we tried 5 shacks during our stay and all provided really good food and cocktails. unfortunately we probably saw the beach in it's worst state due to the huge numbers of people congregating for the celebrations but despite this we still found it very relaxing. Yes, you will get asked if you want massages, fruit and a multitude of other things but we found that if you firmly said no they moved on. For a little more peace and quiet we did try a beach to the north of goa - Mandarim which again has shacks but is far more peaceful with less hassle. A return taxi journey to Mandrim costs around £15.

The highlight of the trip for our son was the opportunity to wash and be washed by an elephant at the spice plantation - highly recomended and again a bargain!

The only slight criticism would be the amount of Indian men constantly taking photos and videos of any women with fair skin on the beach, again this is less on the quieter beaches. We are used to this to some degree when travelling but we found this level to be intrusive (again, this high level may have been due to it being New Year).

That said, yes we will most definately be returning to Goa and would love to spend more time at the Casa Aleixo. Go and enjoy...

This is by far the best property I could find on the busy Baga-Calangute stretch. The maintenance is clearly visible the moment you step in. The owner, Wilfred Sir, is a wonderful person to talk to; he will make you feel comfortable in every manner. The optimum care taken by Sir to maintain this lovely property is reflected indoors too - clevery placed beautiful artifacts, paintings and furniture grab your attention. The rooms are well kept and we couldn't find any problems - Sir was grateful enough to offer us the top floor suite at a good rate. The property does have a pool around 5 feet deep, was clean and suits the need unless you are a national swim champ. The staff is well behaved and diligent.
Simple breakfast is included in the charges and you are requested to check with the mgmt. before-hand, though there are lot of options to explore nearby.
I would not agree if someone says that this property is far from the beach. There are lot of tiny paths that would take you to the beach, provided you are willing to explore - one goes very next to the property. However, I would not recommend to take these at night, better to stick with the motorable road. Cheers !

Room Tip: If you are honey-mooners, do not hesitate to mention this ;-)

Wilfred and his wife made our stay a pleasant and warm first acquaintance with Goan Hospitality. Their interest in our well being, special wishes and requests was genuine and heartfelt. Their staff was obliging and helpful with any inquiry and made sure all was well. Our visit to Goa and our stay at Casa Aleixo made us 'hungry' for more! So hopefully we will be able to return to Goa shortly and pick up where we left of and once again watch the stars from the roofterras at night, take a morning dip in the lovely pool and visit the famous Portugese-Goan-Restaurant Horse Shoe in Panaji.

Thanks mister and misses DeSouza for a wonderful time!

Justine

Room Tip: Beautifully set with a lovely garden

Having just returned from a 3 week holiday and stay at casa aleixo I have made sure of a repeat booking next year prior to posting this review.
Mr Wilfred Desousa and his staff made our holiday complete with their help and kindness offering us advice and information when sought whist at the same time affording us the privicy to relax and enjoy this quality accommadation.
As mentioned in previous reviews Casa Aleixo is located off the main Baga road, yet entering the long, tree lined driveway upto the superb three storey house the hustle and bustle is left behind, Instead you are met with charm, peace and tranquility.
The gardens are very well groomed with a variety of fruit trees which attract an array of bird-life including the kingfisher and nightingale.
Our room was on the top (3rd) floor and was non A/C options are available
It was large with a high roof and fan which suited our needs perfectley. the bed's were very comfortable with daily changing and cleaning.
Continental breakfast was served daily by the cheerful Pradip and Arup on the sun terrace which over-looked the equally attractive rear garen with inviting swimming pool which we often took advantage of, Towels were also proided on the sun-loungers.
Our thanks again Wilfred for your kindness and look foreward to seeing you and all your staff again next year
