The place itself is quite nice. The rooms are really basic. Our room had bedbugs which I told the owner Howard. He blamed us indirectly for bringing them to his hostel which was non-sense as we have no bites or anything until now. He kicked us out in the middle of the night and left us (two girls) in the middle of nowhere. We needed about an hour to find a new place..

We have a lovely time staying here! Howard is great fun, if a little crazy an very helpful if you have questions. The rooms are a good size and are clean and have comfy beds. The building itself isn't too hot and stuffy.
There are plenty of toilets although only one hot shower which is a bit of a pain, but seemed to be available when we needed it. Can't guarantee that would be the case on wknds when it's full here. The breakfast is just bread and jam and coffee and tea but for the price you can't grumble (coffee and tea is actually available all day). Very good location near to everything and proximity to bus stop to take you to Melaka Sentral is great. Pretty much no complaints...except our aircon was leaking, but these things happen and for the price we were paying and the quality of the room and the location we just put a towel on the floor and got along with it! We did tell Howard though so hopefully he'll fix it!

Great little hostel (more of a hostel than guest house), well placed close to Jonker Street and central Melaka. Pretty basic in terms of facilities but good value, hot showers, free toast and drinks etc, also free WiFi in the lounge area. A friend and I initially booked two nights here online but decided to add a third which was sorted out really easily at the hostel, no fuss over bookings or money which was great. We were sold on this place due to the low cost and good location but also the many references to how great the host was in being friendly and showing tourists around (and running bike tours and having BBQs). However the weekend we decided to come the owner was having a mini holiday and someone else was in charge. This was fine, (he is fully entitled to a holiday and we didn't have any problems with the the temporary host who was up for chatting and giving us ukulele lessons) but being travellers new to the area we were looking forward to someone with a wealth of local knowledge enthusiastic to help, especially as a lot of the reviews of this place are focussed on the owner. We also didn't meet many of the other guests so it was a little on the quiet side for a touristy/backpacker place- maybe we just picked a bad weekend or the guests fancied staying in their rooms and didn't spend as long in the communal areas. However these are not really faults of the hostel, just bad timing mixed with unclear expectations I think. Overall though it was good value for money, very relaxed, low stress and everything provided that you would need. Really good location, we could wander down to Jonker street quickly and come in via the street food area, which is a bonus. One final note- watch out for mosquitoes in the rooms

I loved staying at Ringo's. Howard was a supercool host who loved spending time with his guests. The evening market trips and bike rides along the canals were awesome. I spent my 30th birthday having a party on the roof, and Howard was kind enough to get in a couple of crates through his connections!

If you're travelling on a budget then I would recommend staying here. We stayed in January 2012 and believe the guest house has had further improvements since then.

Okay here is where the TripAdvisor rating system should maybe be a little more dynamic because 4 stars does not tell the whole story of this place and it does not put it on par other guesthouses I've reviewed that received 4 or 5 stars in terms of their "niceness" or anything like that.

This is a pretty traditional hostel. It's in an older building that could probably use a little work. It's a little bit dimly lit, etc. BUT, it is extremely cheap and in an absolutely perfect location for Melaka. The wifi is excellent, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and there's a lot of "hang out room" for people to mingle.

Being able to walk 5 minutes and be on Jonker Street is pretty great. The drinks are cold and cheap.

There are other rooms to choose from so if you want to pay a little more you can probably get a nicer room than the small dorm I had but I wouldn't know much about that.

All I can say is, this place gets the job done, be a little brave and give it a shot. You'll probably have fun, and save some coin too.
