“Home away from home”

Old Town Guest house made our trip to Melaka easy, safe, and comfortable. A few minutes walk away from the busy main drag, this guesthouse was excellent value. Helpful owner, who provided us heaps of local knowledge about attractions, food, and bus stops. The place has a very homely feel, with a lovely area to socialize with other travellers in the mornings over the breakfast, tea and coffee that were included. The rooms, bathrooms and showers (hot water readily available, but the town is so hot that we were thankful for the cold shower option as well!!) were very clean, and the place very quiet in the evenings, with a safe locked entrance.
Thank you Chau for making our stay memorable!!

From the minute I inquired and made a booking, to our final goodbye, Chua provided exactly what was expected, not to mention with a great sense of curtesy & service. Keeping in mind that this is budget accommodation, one cannot be too critical, despite just a few minor details. The place was very clean, well thought out, with everything one would need. Our family room was just fine, the AC and fan worked great and luckily, it was quiet, since we are early to bed people. For kids, there is plenty of space to hang out. We even met another family and had some good play time during the hottest/siesta time of the day. We loved its location away from the major tourist scene, though the result is more walking. You need a stroller if you have little ones. The food, local shops, and people around the guesthouse are awesome, making us feel so welcome. The best was the duck soup just below.... We and our kids gobbled that up! Thanks, Chua and best wishes.

Room Tip: Our room sepuluh had no outside windows, which made it cool, and quiet. The guesthouse is on a busy...

Stayed there mid march 2014 for two nights and absolutely loved the place :) Chua, the owner, was one of the kindest hosts I had in western Malaysia, and his guesthouse just reflects his hospitality.
Starting with prompt replies to emails, filled with excellent information, he went over his head to make my stay as comfortable as possible, even letting me do my laundry for free :) The place has a large common area with cosy chairs and shared bathrooms (which are immaculately clean, just as the rooms and the kitchen are), and several private rooms with more or less a good bed and a fan/ac in them (I managed to sleep for 13 hours in a row the first night!!!). The breakfast (coffee/tea/water, toast, butter, jam, ...) is served in the kitchen which is designed with drawings of the sights nearby (superbly used by Chua to help you plan your stay in Melaka).
Overall I can just recommend this place and would definitely stay there again without hesitation.

Old Town Guesthouse is a 10 minute walk to Jonker street and has great restaurants and food stalls surrounding it. Highlight was definitely the friendly atmosphere- there are a bunch of tables and chairs scattered around the 2 main common areas and it is very spacious. The hosts were very helpful and gave us a bunch of advice. The hostel was also very clean.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Booked 2 nights, but stayed for 4 as my partner and I loved it so much. The owners are so friendly and helpful and instantly make you feel at home.
The hostel itself is incredible... it has so much open seating and lounge space, which is so rare to see these days. Rooms are spacious enough and comfortable, but with the hanging chairs, sofas and loungers in the common areas we barely spent any time in there. Has a TV corner with an extensive collection of DVD's, so if like us you're nearing the end of your travels (or not) and just want a day to chill out and watch movies... this is it.
The place has been revamped since the pics on here, with the walls covered in murals to reflect the sites of Melaka - a really nice touch and good visual aid!
Breakfast is simple but sufficient - self service tea/coffee with toast and the usual spreads.
The location was perfect for us. No, it's not right on Jonker Street... but I wouldn't want it to be! It's literally 5 mins walk to the sites and Jonker Walk, and opposite there's an open Chinese food court (incredible, cheap, duck rice and Char Seow Pork rice), and on either side at ground level there's a vege place and a 24hr Indian restaurant.
Don't hesitate - book here. Look forward to coming back.

Me and my 2 friends were staying at OldTown Guesthouse. Even though they didn't have 3-bed room, we took a larger one at a reasonable price. The place is quite central but what we loved the most is how clean it was inside. The guesthouse had a beautiful painting on the wall with all the Melakas major attractions - masterpiece! The host was very welcoming and super helpful. For us - lousy backpackers, he suggested a plan for the whole trip, which we followed in the end. Thank you very much!
