“Beautiful first time experience !”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

First time checking in to this hotel. Well maintained with beautiful room to enjoy. Room was huge with nice layout and very spa like decor which I love. A lot of unique and personal touches which made the stay memorable. Security was good and service by the staffs was also good.
Only feedback I have is the extra pillow was stained and looks mouldy and it was unfortunate during my recent stay, the hotel pool was closed for upgrading works and we have to use the residence block pool.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing river side.

Stayed many times over the years and they continue to maintain the great service, quality of room, and ensure intricacies are (such as local dessert upon checkin, car wash to my car).
They have the swimming pool situated at roof top which overlook the river, with lovely view towards the Melaka Straits as well.

Although the price is expensive by comparison to other hotels. But worth it for the great location, attentive service, and room quality.

Room Tip: Choose the Lago (Courtyard) view is better. The river view has very good view but (at night), people...

Wonderful Hotel with service, location and food to match, the staff go out of their way to make your stay a very pleasant one, choice and quality of food are excellent with many tables overlooking the river, the rooms are spacious and very well appointed with beds so soft you are in
danger of missing breakfast.
If all hotels were of this standard, tripadvisor would be out of business.

Stayed in Studio size room and my 2 kids love it. The balcony overlooking Meleka River was spacious and nice to spend time with friends eating pizza (room service, and very nice!) and drinking wine, just short of Cigar! :) ---- ceiling fans in both room and balcony were a great help so you can minimize mosquito problem with constant wind channeling.

Service was great except it took a while to provide us the room key (got it close to 4pm, we arrived 3pm).

Recommended to stay for family.

Price steep but worth it if quality is what you expect.

Room Tip: Chose Meleka River view.

We spent a fabulous weekend in Malacca at the Casa del Rio. Its situation on the banks of the river is perfect. It is quiet and peaceful, but just a few minutes’ walk from the main attractions, including the Jonker Street night markets, restaurants and bars, Hereen Street, Stadthuys and the Dutch town square, river cruises and the maritime museum. St Paul’s Church and the old Portuguese fort are just a short walk up the hill.

On arrival at Casa del Rio, we were served a lovely ginger and lime sorbet in a pavilion beside the fountain – a lovely way to check in. Our room was attractively furnished with a wonderfully comfortable bed. A pretty balcony, was a relaxing place to sit and watch the activities on the river and to spy the occasional iguana swimming by. The separate dressing room led into a large, attractive bathroom. Fluffy white towels and Molton Brown toiletries complimented the huge overhead rain shower and separate, deep, luxurious bath.

The restaurant and bar offer the choice of enjoying the tropical ambience on the terrace beside the river, or air-conditioned comfort inside. We thoroughly enjoyed a night-cap in the bar accompanied by live music.

Interaction with the staff was always accompanied by a bright, cheerful smile and their suggestions of walking routes, restaurants and museums were invaluable.

The river cruise is worth the trip to see the fabulous murals on all the houses, cafes and bars along the river. The maritime museum, a replica of a Portuguese ship, offers a very interesting historical account of this fascinating port. The Menara Taming Sari gives fabulous views over the entire area and is worth the 7 minute ride and small financial outlay.

Geographer Cafe is an atmospheric bar on Jonker Street and just along the side-street is Eleven Restaurant, which serves great Portuguese/Malay seafood. Next door, Nancy’s Nonya restaurant is extremely popular, but expect a long queue unless you are very early.

The Portuguese settlement is a short taxi ride away. Despite Sunday lunch being extremely quiet, read almost deserted, the chilli crab and pepper prawns were exquisite. An evening visit would probably offer a more vibrant atmosphere.

Room Tip: Our river view room was fabulous

My sister in laws and sons together with myself visited Melaka recently and had indeed a wonderful stay. The welcome and check-in was very personalised, with cold towels and coconut ice-cream! the set up on the riverside was just beautiful. Our rooms, deluxe lago rooms, were very spacious with a balcony overlooking the court yard and river in the back. The bathrooms had everything one could wish for. The towels very huge one could wrap it around twice:). The food in the restaurant, was delicious. The staff were very experienced, helpful and efficient. Also the location was as great as the hotel itself. Just a couple of minutes walk to Jonker Street with little shops and restaurants and if you don't feel to have some local food, just around the corner is a hardrock cafe and pub. The historical sites are also in walking distance. Overall a place to go back to when in Melaka. Just loved it!

Room Tip: The room we had was on the 2nd floor, in the corner overlooking the lago.

My 2nd vacation with a HPL Hotel. Arrived on Friday, checked-in at the cabana, served sourbet-lemonade - nice touch with my name written with correction-fluid (liquid paper) on a leaf. All good in the room - spacious, clean, air-con working well. We reserved for 1 night and decided to stay another night, wasn't an issue considering it is off-peak. All is good, car washed every night, 5 mins walk to Jonker Street, etc. I checked in using my Malaysian IC and wasn't it obvious it was my birthday? I thought they should have used it as an opportunity to emotionally engage with a customer. There are many quaint hotels around Jonker Street, of course not to the standard of Casa Del Rio, but they shouldn't be complacent and rely too much on their superb location. Anyway, overall it was the perfect place for a much-deserved vacation and the weather was beautiful. Good weekend.
