I brought my family over there for dinner one fine night . Parking was very difficult because of the narrow lanes but it was a good walk through the old town to the cafe . Food was simply awesome n the uncle with the walking stick was very kind n patient to my 2 active kids . He also has a very deep understanding for Chinese tea . Good ambience , awesome food , good people n highly recommended .

“Nice place to spend two hours of tea drinking, chat and trip guidance from the host”
Reviewed 19 December 2012

I wish I had visited Zheng He Tea House (Lao Pu) on my first day in Melaka. This is not only a great place to learn about Chineses Tea Ceremony but also a good starting point to learn about good food and attraction in Melaka from our host, Uncle Lai.

Uncle Lai is really a good host and teaches us alot about the different Chinese tea and preparation process. It was a great experience and relaxing ambiance in the tea house. Uncle Lai's son also gave us a tour of the home stay rooms up stairs. Clean and all rooms comes with ensuite. I will recommend it as a home stay for visitors to Melaka.

I am most impressed with Uncle Lai hospitality to all guest who visited during during my two hours stay at the tea house. Despite having difficulty walking, he never fail to stand up and walk to the door to personally greet and invite guest into the tea house. Its a testament to his passion in his business of running a tea house to make friends, not only profit.

Thanks to spare time in the evening, Uncle Lai brought us to some of the nice foodie place away from the touristic crowds for dinner. He even brought us all the way to Portuguese Settlement to view the impressive Christmas house light up + have a nice Mango juice at the makan area. Not a single cent was ask from us, we were impressed and touched by his hospitality beyond his business of running the tea house.

We did not pay much for the Tea Ceremony yet we had a great evening around the town during the evening. With such great service, its my honor to highly recommend Zheng He Tea House as your starting point during your visit to Melaka.

Visitor Beware!!! Please do not go to the wrong tea house in the wrong street. Refer to the pictures I had uploaded, thats how the Tea House looks like.

“Great service and tea session experience”
Reviewed 16 December 2012

i brought my groupon lunch + tea appreciation. The location is not so strategy, not at the centre of jonker street. Be aware, to find out the real Zheng He tea house. The boss told me that he was migrated from old place of zheng he tea house because the rental was too high. unfortunately, someone else continue the business with his "trademark" when he shifted to new location at Jalan Kg Kuli.
The food was damn nice. i love it! the Mr.Lai knew alots of Tea knowledge, he shared with us all the detail of the tea. Very Very friedly! Highly recommended.
He even let us visit the homestay upstair.. really "antic+modern renovation". if you come with 5-9 persons, recommend you to stay at here. Cheap and near to jonker. The boss even can be your tour guide!

“Welcoming and excellent tea-house with even more on offer”
Reviewed 30 November 2012

We recently stayed in Melaka and found our visits to the Zheng He Tea House the defining and most memorable experience of our visit. The sights of the city are impressive in their own right, but we were delighted by the hospitality and friendliness of everyone at the Tea House. We originally walked in to simply sample some tea, as we do appreciate various greens and oolongs, but ended up staying for two hours as we chatted with Pak and her amicable family and friends.

We first did the tea appreciation with Pak, who proved to be a knowledgeable and engaging teacher. She capably asserted our own levels of knowledge and also what we liked. We then spent a great length of time discussing the teas she presented, whilst trying four, and talking about a range of other topics, from living in Malaysia to what our home countries (UK/Croatia) were like. Needless to say the teas were exquisite and we walked out with a number to take home with us, as well as with details for future shipments, since good oolong and pu'er tea can be hard to source in Europe.

The welcoming nature of the staff and family was made evident as the Tea House had actually shut for the evening to accommodate a large group for a Thanksgiving dinner. They had taken over Pak's kitchen and were obviously regular visitors. During our stay we were also joined by other members of the staff who chatted to us and sat with us. It felt more like a gathering of friends rather than a café or restaurant. They also gave us plenty of useful tips for places to explore and eat at in Melaka.

We were so delighted by that evening that we decided to return the next day. Pak also cooks and we liked the look of a meal she prepared the night before so decided to give it a try. Again we were incredibly satisfied. The dish we had was a perfect example of fresh and authentic home cooking; a highlight of our trip to Malaysia. As we ate her husband joined us at the table (we did not meet him the previous evening) and offered us tea. This, once again, prolonged our stay as we tasted different teas (all of which ended up being on the house) and enjoyed the conversation.

I cannot recommend the tea and food at the Zheng He Tea House enough. It is made all the more enjoyable by the friendly nature of everyone in the establishment. Although we did not use their accommodation and were happy with where we did stay, next time we would definitely stay there to enjoy the homely atmosphere, and of course, the delicious tea! Next time we are in Malaysia we will be swinging by.
