“Thank You, Mr Lai!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 December 2013 via mobile

Originally intended to put up Guli Residence, but to no avail. Passed by the Teahouse and while telling my children that I originally going to book for this lodging place, the owner, Mr Lai, was at the doorstep and invited us in. We called for a tea drinking session, and Mr Lai has put in another 2 coffee on the house. We have a great timesharing there. Mr Lai is also playing a part to preserve what is will be lost in time to come in Old Melaka. The most will be 人情味.

“Interesting after an unusual start”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 October 2013

We weren't sure what to expect when we entered. We were the only customers and were shown to a table and asked to please wait. We didn't mind as it was cool and we weren't in any hurry, but after around ten minutes we were wondering what exactly we were waiting for. We were not given a menu or any indication of price, or what was on offer. Family members came and went, and eventually one of the daughters sat down with us and began the gongfu tea ceremony. She was very knowledgable, spoke excellent English and was happy to answer our many questions. We chose two teas, and learnt the steps involved in preparing the pot, rinsing the leaves, brewing and appreciating the subtle flavours. A thoroughly enjoyable hour on a hot afternoon, and good value for the quality of the tea and personal service.

“Disappointing!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

The front of the tea house was messy - with laptops books papers etc all over the front tables, plus a sleeping old man next to the table...

The vending machine at the front was ugly and didn't match the tea house at all - we felt like we were walking into someone's house!

They didn't sell any snacks to go with the tea which is considered unusual (didn't even have crisps or nuts!)

There were two ladies at the front, one I believe is the mother and the other one is either sister or daughter and they had an argument in front of us

The older lady was scolding the maid in front of us

The younger lady had a cold and kept sniffing her nose while serving us tea...

We couldn't wait to get out of the place!

“Delicious food and tea and a very warm welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2013

We ate here once and took tea here twice. The food was simple Chinese food, a choice of 4 or 5 meals, all that we tried in our group were fresh and delicious. There are a range of teas available and the owner will serve you one or two types in a ceremony style, explaining the process and the tea. She clearly enjoys what she does and makes it very engaging. It is excellent value and I would definitely return.

“A must-do in Melaka”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2013

Admittedly, we nipped into this tea shop just to use the loo, but ended up staying for three hours!

We decided to partake in a tea ceremony and were superbly led by James, whose parents own the shop. It was a wonderful experience and James is a real asset to both his family and the tea house.

He talked us through the traditional ceremony and let us try different types of tea. We learnt all about the teapots and the tea itself and it was fascinating. It was also great to chat to James who was a brilliant host.

I would strongly recommend this to anyone who visits Melaka. Thank you for such a great day!
