The rooms are fantastic. Very good bed and linen for excellent sleeping. The location of the hotel is just opposite an shopping mall with many shops and eateries. Not too far from the old historic center (walking is possible or by taxi). If you are there on the right days, visit the night market. The Equatorial has an excellent buffet breakfast and very well trained staff.

Well priced and in a great location for walking around the town, don't waste money on a balcony as there isn't much of a view, though that doesn't detract from the quality of the hotel and the superb staff
The downstairs coffee bar has a fabulous selection of cakes and chocolates so wide berth if your on a diet.!!

Room Tip: High as poss. To avoid street noise

With rapid development in this town, new hotels are popping up like mushrooms. Despite the greater choice, Equatorial remains my hotel of choice.

1. Warmth
- staying here provides the home away from home feeling. Staff are friendly and hotel is well maintained. Expect warm service all round.

2. Location
- just hop next door to a new shopping mall that has all you will need. It is also conveniently located to the heart of the old Melaka town.

3. Food
- breakfast is a joy always. For those craving for a night bite, enjoy the Teh tarik, chendol and some light snacks at the lobby whilst listening to live music. Good place to chill.

Will be an automatic choice each time we are back.

My second stay here and i'm choosing this hotel as my accomodation everytime i visit melaka! Service was fantastic, from catpark security, recep & housekeeping. Our room was well kept and our request for extra towels (for our kids) were attended vy promptly. This hotel not only have wifi but they have cable (incl disney) which my kids love. Breakfast was a spread and delight! Amneties were complete & housekeeping was great. They had an adult and kids pool with a good view. Since we went in the morning.. The water was extremely cold.. Mayb could suggest to put a heater for the morning swimmers. This hotel is just a walk away from megamalls and a stone throw away from the night bazaar & jonker walk.

I stayed in premier room and i would say this is one the best places i stayed in Malaysia. Hotel is big, personnel is helpful, room is big, bed invites you to sleep. At the breakfast we tried a lot of food and was full to move further. Location is also great.
It is place for relaxation of your inner, a little isle of happiness.

We did not stay here but the Nonya cooking class was a must ! It is about $40 and you feast at the end of it! The class we did was small , 3 of us and one other, we cooked in pairs. The dishes were demonstrated to us and then we went and cooked them. They were delicious ! Aprons and chefs hats provided! Recipes to take home and try for ourselves. A red meat dish and a seafood/ white meat dish and a dessert with all the wonderful flavours that are specific to a Malaccan meal.Afterwards the meals you had cooked and a few more! This is run over 2 or so hours and then either a big lunch or an early dinner afterwards. I would put this at the top of my must do list for a visit to Melaka!

Room Tip: Cooking class a must do in Malacca!

One of the reasons I went to Melaka was to renew my experience of Nyonya food, especially the stuff that is impossible to obtain in the west, as the special ingredients aren’t available. I also wanted to do a cooking class to pick up extra knowledge and tips form the experts. After extensive enquiries I found the Equatorial Hotel appears to be the only place providing these. (The Riverine Coffee Shop no longer does them). I wasn’t disappointed!

It's wise to book in advance as they need a minimum number for a class.

The lovely Rubayah, who is the hotel’s Nyonya chef, taught my group of 4. The set-up was very professional and we all learned plenty, as well as having a lot of fun and making new friends. We could also ask questions about the ingredients, the method of preparation etc. After the class (2 hours) we were served the dishes we cooked, plus a few more, in the adjacent restaurant. We were given high-quality printed recipes for our dishes. Astounding value for money!

Next day I retuned to the hotel's Nyonya restaurant for dinner to get into some of the more exotic dishes, like curry with Kalimantan black nuts, and the food and service were fantastic.

A quality experience I'll remember for a long time.
