“Great Location and a pleasant surprise”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

Just came back from a 3 Days 2 Night stay at Hotel Puri. I had no idea what to expect because I did not plan this trip ; my fiancee did. The exterior of this hotel does not do it justice, I became slightly weary as to what to expect when I noticed the shabby exterior. BUT, i was in for a pleasant surprise.

We had no troubles checking in. It was very smooth and fast. There was a huge christmas tree in the middle of the lobby which ,made us feel right at home. We were shown to our rooms promptly.

Room: The room itself was pretty basic. We stayed in the superior suite. It was small-sized and we had a pretty decent shower. What surprised me was that we were given tooth brushes, hair dryers and even newspapers every morning. Mostly, when we stayed in other hotels, these small details were forgotten, given that we were budget travellers, so it was nice to have these little details to be taken care of.

However, the room did come with it's flaws. I constantly was bitten my mosquitoes. I probably became a mosquito serial killer by now, We did not have much of a view, once we opened the window, all we could see was the other rooms and mosquitoes would rush in. We could also hear people walking up and down the corridors constantly.

Breakfast: It was alright. Not too much variety but the place where breakfast was held was very nice. I think it was called the heliconia gardens or something like that.

Location: As mentioned by many others, the location is great. The hotel gives out free walking maps , so u can just grab one and explore the whole of Jonker Street together with another map of snacks and food. We had a blast exploring Malacca on our own. Jonker Street is just a stone's throw away from the hotel.

It was definitely a pleasant surprise! :)

Had a two night stay in October. The stay was on a Tuesday and Wednesday night and found Jonker Walk area very quiet mid week. Had booked two rooms.

Wife and I had a junior suite and at AUD$130 a night did not find it good value. Even though a suite was small with bed in an attic type area. Bathroom and a tiny sitting area downstairs. Only one lounge type chair for sitting.

Adult son had a superior twin room which was tiny.

Both rooms were internal type rooms with shutters out to the inside of the hotel. Had lunch one day which we enjoyed and was good value. Buffet breakfast only average.

Would I stay again? Better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has external windows.

Like many other hotels in the old part of town, this is a restored old Chinese shophouse/ family home. I think it has been done very well to keep the charm, the simplicity and the architecture of its past heritage.
Excellent clean rooms, two lovely café/dining areas both inside splendid courtyard yards. Breakfasts are good, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Great value for money - but book early; it gets busy

Room Tip: A stay in Melaka on Friday or Saturday night is good - Jonkers Walk is closed off and turned into a...

We had a group of 25 people holidaying together and had opted for a boutique hotel experience. The staff at the Puri when out of the way to ensure everything was done well and we had a seamless and fairly quick check in and out despite the group size. The staff were wonderful. The rooms were clean, bathrooms adequately appointed and the property was very homely and the internal courtyards where breakfast was served and where one could sit and have chats over drinks were cool and beautifully organized. Breakfast was very enjoyable sitting in the airy Heloconia garden. It surpassed all expectations!

Room Tip: Remember there are no elevators so those with disability or difficulties with stairs, I suggest a gr...

We stay here on 18th November 2103 after spending 1 night at Casa Del Rio. As we only paid S$60 per night including breakfast for a basic standard room we do not expect much.Location wise it is right smack in the Jonker Walk area so we have no problem eating and shopping. Kochik Nonya Restaurant is just a few doors away. We have also stay here a few years back. The lobby is large and full of decorations. There are antiques and paintings all over the common area. Our room on the first floor was okay and clean. Breakfast in the courtyard was nothing to shout about but we also have no complaints..Hotel is within walking distance of the Dataran Phalawan and makhota shopping mall (20 minutes). It cost M$20 for a taxi.We added in S25 for a 4 course dinner for 2 and a river cruise.. Overall we were quite happy with our stay here.

Rooms are a bit worn but still loverly. Ground level has a lot of interesting peranakan decor and fittings. The location is great however to the mall would be a good 30mins walk. Service is okay. We checked out on a Monday. The hotel was almost empty however they still did not allow us a late check out. No value add there.

1) Few minutes from Jonker St as Hotel is located in next street. Not noisy compared to hotels located right in the Jonker St. 2) 15 minutes walk to Christ Church through Jonker St. 3) Family Room with 1 King Sized & 2 twin beds located on 1st floor, Clean and Spacious with Living area. 4) Breakfast were simple and yet different for 3 mornings. But don't be too late else some food are not replenished. 5) 15mins walk to Baba Museum located along the same street (guided tour RM10 for adult & RM5 for child) from left of hotel entrance 6) Limited private carpark lots within 100m. We did not drive around in Malacca. Most famous places are within walking distances. 7) Good Nonya food (name Kochi Restaurant) located just few units away from the Hotel. Nonya Laksa and Chendol are nice! 8) Swiftlet Bird Nests are found in the hall of the Hotel. Real swiftlets (>10) are there around evening.

Room Tip: Ground floor is preferred for elderly or families with kids as there is no lifts to the 3rd floor.
