We loved Hotel Puri. Had read all the great reviews before we went so we were expecting it to be great, and we weren't disappointed.

The only things I would add are:

Due to it's central location it IS affected by noise. We stayed in the Junior Suite (room 165) ... fabulous room, our 4.5 year old son slept on the sofa bed on the first level (which is where the bathroom was located too) and our king size bed was in the loft above him. They warned us that it could be a bit noisy in this room in the mornings as it's directly above the breakfast room, but as our boy wakes early every morning anyway this wasn't a concern for us ... and nor was it too noisy anyway.

But we could clearly hear the "doosh doosh" thumping beat of a bar/nightclub probably on Jonker Street until around 2am and this happens every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night apparently. This did somewhat spoil our otherwise wonderful stay, although not enough not to return.

The other thing was the bed itself ... king size but hard as a rock! A great shame as the room was really fabulous otherwise, especially for the price.

We are looking forward to returning ... we had a look at the Puri Suite before we left and the one on the 1st floor is outstanding. We also viewed the family room which has a king size bed and 2 doubles and a separate living area ... but no door.

The food in the hotel was good, it's really got so much character and, in short, we absolutely loved it and do highly recommend it.

A charming little peranakan style hotel with helpful staff. Rooms are nice and small and good for 2 people. Breakfast was a bonus with good spread. Loved the courtyard with water feature and it sounds like it's rainining outside when you are in the room!!! Short walk to most attractions, shopping zones, and Jonker Street, where all the actions are in just behind the hotel, Surrounded by lots of restaurants which serve peranakan food. The whole area is quite dead in the night as we were there on weekdays but lots of cars and tourists from Singapore in the day. Overall, a good stay and would love to be back again...

The hotel makes the most of the 200 year-old buildings with the judicious addition of mod cons. The rooms are comfortable, the beds too. Breakfast was plentiful with good variety for most tastes. Above all, the staff were unfailingly smiling and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. T

After staying at a mediocre establishment in the Cameron Highlands, Hotel Puri was a welcome change. It's located in a large converted Peranakan home and very much captures the multiethnic mixture that is Melaka. Room was clean and cozy, and every morning the breakfast was different, a mix of Chinese, Malay, and Indian dishes. The trendy Jonker Street is only a 5 minute walk away.

We have visited Melaka more than 6 times and our choice of hotel has always been Hotel Puri. Although our last visit was more than 5 years ago, we found Hotel Puri as charming and elegant as before. We stayed 2 nights over Christmas.

The hotel's airwell centre has been nicely spruced up with Christmas decorations which gives the hotel a nice festive air. The deluxe rooms have undergone some refurbishment and the rooms now have parquet flooring instead of being carpeted. We are a group of 4 and stayed in 3 deluxe rooms (cost RM 253 nett inclusive of breakfast). Breakfast is now served @ Heliconia Room in the new wing. Breakfast spread is ample with laksa assam, varieties of different bread, banana fritters, waffles, fruits and an omelette corner.

Hotel Puri now has a spa which is situated towards the right corner of their cafe. I tried its 30 mins Balinese foot massage @ RM 53.75 which is not much to rave about.

What makes Hotel Puri attractive to most travellers is its central location to most of the sights. Jonker Street (Jln Hang Jebat) is on the parallel street to Jln Tun Tan Cheng Lock where Hotel Puri is located, and this is where the night market (Pasar Malam) is held every Friday, Saturday & Sunday. It is also a 10 mins walk to the boat/ferry cruise landing area and to Stadthuys and the Clock Tower @ Jln Laksamana. You will also find lots of eateries along Jonker Street.

If you wish to enjoy the art of living in the east, with Malayan/old Malacca charm this is the place. It is simple yet oozing with characters. In the Peranakan/straits Chinese culture, you see the blend of the Malay and the Chinese way of living in the tropics.

The place has been immaculately preserved and enhanced. We stayed in the junior suite which I must say difficult for me to leave.

For breakfast it besides the normal fares it was pleasant surprise to see Adam laksa and fried banana fritters being served. Very Malaysian.

I spent time just immersed in the ambience. Forget about the tourist attractions.

The spa is another treasure. Although the massage was average by my standard(which is very high) the setting and ambience make you want to make it a home.

I will come back.
