“Our favorite hotel of 2010 and a lovely start to 2011”
Reviewed 17 January 2011

We spent our New Year's Eve at this hotel, as a special treat to an eventful year. We travel a lot and have stayed in very many hotels, but the Majestic reminded me of when I stayed at Hotel Altstadt in Vienna. A rare mix of warmth and coziness with classiness and historical romance. The staff were pleasant and professional without being over the top. The pool was small and cold, but my daughter enjoyed it. The spa experience was divine, in a beautiful setting. Perhaps rarer in this part of the world, there was a wheel-chair bathroom as well as a lift, although the front part of the hotel (the historic mansion) would need further adjustments to make it 100% wheel-chair (and stroller) friendly.
We particularly loved the four-legged bath tub that filled up in record speed. Perhaps because it was New Year's Eve, we could hear our neighbors quite well, which somehow added to the festive feel. However, we weren't so sure about the blasting dance floor they made out of the lobby area for the New Year.
The dining room on the upper floor of the mansion is lovely, and we enjoyed both our New Year's Eve dinner and the breakfast in the morning. All in all, it was a perfect way to start a new year!

I often use Tripadvisor when choosing a hotel and the reviews have been very helpful and spot on. However, I have never had the incredible urge to add my personal view to any hotel until this experience with the Majestic Hotel (Melaka).

Further to all the great things other reviewers had commented about the level of service, the wonderful rooms and the overall ambience etc. I must highlight two experience that I hope to share with everyone:
(1) The pictures on the brochures/ website etc are exactly what you will see at the Majestic Hotel. Not some photoshopped, stylized images.
(20 The Heritage Package we enjoyed was "value for money". At RM799, both my cousin and I enjoyed the 1 night twin room, spa package each of a (50 mins) spa treatment and (30 mins) hair wash PLUS a wonderful breakfast! The menu of spa treatments and breakfast items were wide ranging not some watered down package "shortcuts".
The overall hotel experience has made all the difference to our trip to Melacca.

Probably one of the best family hotel experiences we've had ever... and we have had a lot. We decided to spend 3 days in Melaka, take a break from Singapore between Christmas and New Years, with our two teenage daughters and my wife. We knew Melaka was known for its history and not much else (not for shopping or beaches). A colleague recommended The Majestic, saying it was newly renovated and she had had a wonderful experience.

We were not disappointed, on the contrary, we were delighted!

It was small, a boutique hotel, not one of the more popular tourist hotels. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, we fell in love with the hotel and the staff. Clean, classy, cozy and efficient and friendly staff. Rooms were great up at the 9th floor. We got adjoining rooms. The sliding partition separating the bathroom from the room was a bit strange and unique, but it worked and we got used to it. Loved the lounging sofa next to the large windows overlooking the canal and the city. Spent a lot of time there chilling, reading my kindle and dozing off. My wife and daughters loved the spa. The manager, Ben, gave us tips on where to eat.

The historical walk arranged by the hotel was excellent and gave us exactly the historical perspective we knew Melaka was famous for. Donovan, the tour guide, was friendly, professional and knew so much history, not only of Melaka but of the region and its links with Europe during the colonial period.

The food was great... both the lazy buffet breakfast in the high ceilinged, wooden floored and quiet dining area in the mezzanine, and in the city where we savored nonya cuisine for our dinners. When we got back to the hotel after dinners out, they whipped up some ice cream when we asked for it, even if it wasn't on the menu, which we enjoyed lounging in the lobby area or in the adjacent "library" area.

Was actually able to do some quiet work with the laptop in the evening at the bar area sipping wine, while the women were at the spa.

We don't normally go back to places, because there are so many places to still explore and visit. But this one... well, we may make an exception and come back again for some serious chilling time.

I had stayed there over the Xmas weekend with my family n the stay was marvelous! The room was beautiful, new ( they had been in service for only 3 yrs) n the beds were plush n comfy. The hotel was a 15 mins walk fr jonker st n had many yummy food places right next to it. Their service was impeccable n made me feel right at home. They were very helpful n even told me when could I buy kebayas. The complimentary walking tour was fantastic n the guide was very knowledgable. The breakfast spread was great too.. The variety
Wasn't a lot but everything was just well done. All in all, the hotel

We spent 3 nights in early December on a full-board system. This is a very beautiful hotel: colonial style, tastefully decorated. Our spacious room is very clean and romantic and facing the river. The staff provide excellent and thoughtful service: we especially appreciate Mr Lim for his gift of Nonya cakes for our departure to Kuala Lumpur. Being quite demanding for the quality of food and cooking, we have to recognize that the cuisine of the hotel is also of high level (Western and Asian as well) . Everything has been to our entire satisfaction. As for the location, in spite of being next to a big building, we have the advantage of visiting the open "living museum" of Malay traditional houses just by crossing the street in front of the hotel: we did have nice walk at sunset during our three days. We highly recommend The Majestic to people who like to enjoy ancient or colonial buildings with services of high standard.

We are just back from an awesome holiday to Malacca. we were at the Majestic for 2 nights, for the new years

Hotel: The hotel is a 5*, but when we entered the hotel i was quite taken a back with the lobby. Its quite small & cramped as compared to any other 5* i have stayed in. The lobby, Bar, reception, coffee shop & the library are all rolled up in the same area.

Staff: having said that about the hotel entrance, the staff & their faces with a huge smiles makes up for all that. The front office manager & the entire staff is superbly helpful & have a 'Can Do' attitude.

Room: The Hotel room was AWESOME, that was surely 5* standard. The open concept of the room makes it look amazing, Big & very very comfortable. Just LOVED the room

Food: The chef was really good & accommodating. He made some really nice food for me, Me being a vegetarian. Another thing that surprised me about this 5* hotel was that it didn't have a 24 by 7 coffee shop/room service. A 5* without a round the clock coffee shop??? thank god there's a 24*7 restaurant right next to the hotel which was a saving grace

Location/Amenities: The hotel is about 20 min walk from Jonker street. Its right next to the malacca river & the view from the rooms are GREAT! The pool is nice but quite small, the gym looked well equipped (though we didn't use it). Another great thing about the hotel was its Spa. The staff, the therapists & the therapies are great. you have to try at least one when here.

Firstly I have to say it depends on what you are looking for. It may not suit all but its surely meets my expectations. This is a boutique hotel which is may not be near to the city centre but hey how big is old Melaka...
We drove and manage to find the hotel easily and parked at the front(not the big carpark beside).. thanks to GPS, the door man came out to welcome us and helped us with our luggages.
We were led to the small lobby to have a seat instead of standing at the checkin counter while they process our checkin...we like the old restored hotel...nicely done up. Benjamin the hotel manager came by to make himself known and made small talk to find out more of where we are from.
When processing was done led up to our room by 2 counter staff to our room...yes 2 of them..not the luggage buy but the ladies manning the reception. One of them helped my son with his plate of navel biscuits which he chanced on in the lobby.(The hotel has placed old traditional goodies around the lobby for guests to help themselves to). The luggages arrived very soon after.
I believe the service is possible as the hotel may not that packed cos I cannot see the hotel doing this for tens of guests checking in at check in time..but nevertheless, it was great service.
The room is new, nicely done up and had a view of the river. facilities wise nothing to shout about. Pool is small and gym has a few defective equipment which I brought up to the staff and was assured that it would be repaired very soon. The spa was very nice, done up in the peranakan way and with some offer then was real value for money.
Whenever we bump into Ben, he would ask how our stay was thus far and made sure we were fine..including sending up some DVDs to make sure our nights were filled up with activities as well.
Just as I thought the service cannot get better, we bumped into Donovan, the hotel tour guide. This man is a walking encyclopedia, he is articulate, well read and witty. Throughout the walking tour along the river to the old fort, he filled us up with so much knowledge of not only Melaka but also talked about topics not related to Melaka. When we asked him about something he was not familiar with, he told us he's gonna do more research to find out...At the end of the trip, we had information falling out of our ears as we struggled to absorb what he told us... Melaka has so much history. Simply incredible.
For those who like kwey Tiao, don't forget to try the one at the end of the renaissance hotel street or the crab kopi tiam near the rear car park hotel.
