“Nyonya theme hotel”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

Great location as mentioned many times by other reviews. It's on a road parallel to Jonker Street. On the same road, there are other hotels as well eg Hotel Puri, Courtyard Heereen, so choose depending on your budget. Fast check-in & check-out. Nyonya furniture are used in this hotel, good for photo shots. Massage & nail services are provided at a cost. A small souvenir shop is linked to the hotel. Morning breakfast is a bit disappointing, only fried mee hoon, toast bread, sausage, tea coffee and mango juice. B/fast for 2 comes with the room rate, children below 5 is free. Room is quite small & basic. 4 hangers, 2 towels, 1 soap, 4 cups, 3-in-1 coffee (no tea), kettle, body & hair shampoo, that's all. Power points available in room. Walls are quite dirty, not sure if this is so on purpose because I see it in the lobby area too. My room aircon is slow to cool and noisy. Didn't hear any other noise besides the aircon. Overall I think it's the location and the nyonya furnishing that attracted me. Will come back again, but am also interested to try other hotels as well, there are so so so many hotels within Jonker Street vicinity to choose from. Melaka is a lovely place!

The old front part of the building is lovely, but the rooms are very basic - many have no windows and are small and didn't look very clean - sheets were a bit grey and very damp and bathroom wasn't very clean. But okay for the price I guess and good location. Definitely ask for rooms at the back that have windows, but note they only look out over carpark and a back street. We moved to another hotel in Melaka, which was much better (more expensive too!) - Herren Courtyard.
Also we were two hours late and despite ringing to say we were running late they gave our booked room to someone else.

Stayed a night on 22 Sep 11. The room was basic with a comfortable bed, very clean bathroom/toilet, provided with 2 bottles of mineral water and coffee making facilities. There's a courtyard and is like living in a big house with many rooms is like travelling back in time experiencing the Chinese way of living, on the whole I have absolutely nothing to complain, bfast was simple still ok, location here you will not find fast food like KFC but there's the famous Malacca chicken riceball. You can walk from the front of the hotel to the back and there's also many food stalls and restuarants like satay, indian food, malay food etc. From the Malacca bus terminal to hotel is $20 by taxi and also $20 from hotel to bus terminal, u can ask the hotel to call taxi and it will arrive with 10 to 15 minutes

Rooms are great (ask for rooms with a window at the back side of the hotel) and clean. We stayed 3 nights and that was enough for visiting Melaka. The staff was nice and the breakfast was simple. Free Wifi worked well. Location is near all the sightseeings.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The staff was very nice, but the room was a bit disappointing. There were no windows and it wasn't very clean. The location is nice, very close to Jonker Street and about a 10 minute walk to the cultural centre. The free wi-fi worked well. I think it's good for 1 or 2 nights.

The only advantage is good location (near the jonker walk). You definitely can find much better hotel in Melaka with the same price.

Rooms are reasonably priced and amenities were sufficient for a short stay at Malacca. Have gone back to the Baba house on a few occasion ever since it was recommended by a friend. Service was good, the staff speaks good English. Rooms were clean, no complaints about the shower facilities, and free internet as well. The mattresses could have been better though, but it definitely provides quality sleep after a long day. Breakfast, even though not fantastic, is also provided.

Baba house is located right next to Jonker street, and has a few small family-owned department stores along the street it's at - great to get drinks or even toiletries if you need them. There're also a few places nearby for a drink if one yearns for it in the evening. It's also a short 10-15 minute walk to the shopping centres, along the way which you'll see the fort and church as well.

Overall, definitely worth a stay if you're planning a short trip there!
