We stayed for 1 night only. Due to very last minute plan to go to Melacca we choose this hotel because it was the only one available that was located in the centre of town.
For 30 euro you get an air-conditioned room and a breakfast. The rooms with no windows are small, basic but adequate and clean and all facilities are functioning well.
The breakfast is rather basic and minimal as well, but it is an OK-place to stay and the location in the very centre of town is great and very convenient.

This hotel is perfectly located to explore the city, you are right by all the main sights
Staff are friendly, rooms are cute and they serve breakfast in the little courtyard, there isn't loads of choice but what there is is really good

Everytime i go to my fav location being Malacca. I choose to stay at Baba House. It is waliking distance to most attractions. Jonker walk, Malacca River, Resturants and sight seeing. Lots of heritage. Baba house is a good start just to look around the hotel after morning buffet breakfast and coffee. Historic hotel. Rooms clean and cosy. Staff are very good. I usually sit at cafe in hotel after breakfast and read newspaper before i start the day with coffee. The Baba House is part of my trip as it is so relaxing.

I was looking for a nice, little hotel near Jonker Walk and The Baba House had many good reviews about being close to the weekend market. Booked a room through Booking.com for RM88 for a night's stay.

I sent an e-mail requesting for early check-in and they told me that it depends on what time the previous guest checks out. Great. When we got there at around 12.30pm and enquired at the reception table, one of the staff rudely told us that check-in is at 2pm and did not bother to entertain us further.

Well, despite that little, unpleasant encounter, the hotel stay was generally pleasant. Of course, the interior design was beautiful, charming and antique but what was important was the comfort. The room floor was quite dusty but there were bedroom slippers which came in handy as the floor would get kind of cold at night and in the morning if the air-conditioner was switched on.

The basin / bowl was huge and beautiful and located between the main door and bathroom door. The mirror was placed a little bit too high that I had to tiptoe to get a better view of myself! Bath foam and shampoo were not enough for two persons so we just asked the staff for more.

The great thing about the hotel is its LOCATION! It's in a street which has good food, souvenirs, shops, and little museums. It's also just under five minutes away from Jonker Walk on Jonker Street, only held during from Friday to Sunday. It was convenient to buy food and stuff at the night market and elsewhere, bring them back to the hotel and go back out again.

Great eating places such as Calanthe Art Cafe, The Baboon House, Geographer Cafe and various cendol with thick gula melaka shops were of walking distance from the hotel. You can also walk to historical sites like Christ Church and The Stadhuys building.

If you are want to go to Melaka Sentral, take a walk to the bus stop in front of Christ Church (near the fountain) and hop on to the Panorama bus no. 17 and it will take you straight to the bus terminal.

Hotels in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock are indeed in a great location. :)

Room Tip: There are rooms with windows and no windows. Our room had no windows but it worked fine for us.

For the price I paid, and considering it as a 2 star hotel, it was a very pleasant stay, with clean rooms. Spacious for a room of two. Great interior, with quaint Baba architecture, and helpful and friendly staff. Has a good safe parking space. Just 5 mins walk from Jonker. Great location.

Recommended.

"It does what it says on the packet" is how my girlfriend described The Baba House.

A charming terrace, with the rooms extending to the back of the terrace from the road, The Baba House is a great little getaway, right at the heart of the old district in Malacca. It is close to all the places you want to be - e.g. Jonker Street and the museums, river. You really only need the place to store your stuff and sleep right? Well we slept really well there. The bathroom was fine with a great big showerhead and good water pressure. Everything was pretty clean, and they gave us fresh drinking water each day. We were very satisfied with what we got for the price.

We new the rooms didn't have windows - it's a terrace house after all - and it can get pretty dark in the room, which is wonderful for sleeping. Nonetheless, there are plenty of lights so the room is very well lit.

There was also plenty of cupboard space and drawers, and the bathroom sink, while in the room near the door, was delightful.

It's a cozy place and a perfect place to crash at night after you've soaked up your experience in Malacca.

We booked the place online, as much positive comments were given to it. I must say, the front counter was very friendly and accommodating. The parking space which was located behind the property was hard to find and there was some construction works going on which was kind of messy and dusty.

The room, well..as described, was small, with no window (which was also mentioned). We were okay with that as much of our time was spent outside, wondering the city. The best space of the hotel must be the lobby. It is spacious, 'airy' with old, well-furnished baba-nyonya styled furniture.

Overall, nice and unique place to stay in Malacca, but if you are the claustrophobic kind of a person, avoid this place!
