“Order the Ikan Goreng Cili (Fried Fish)!”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We saw this restaurant on a travel show and decided to give it a try. The restaurant belongs to celebrity chef Kenny Chan (who apparently played the nyonya(!) character in the longest-running Malaysian TV sitcom, Baba & Nyonya) so there is a cardboard cut out of him outside this restaurant.

We don't claim to be experts in Peranakan food but we found the food tasty and produce of high quality. The fried fish came was a whole fish (rather than fish fillets) and it had a great balance of sour and spicy and was cooked just right. The other recommended dish would be the Sambal Udang Petai (Prawns with Petai beans).

For dessert, we had the nyonya chendol. This was a tad too sweet for us, but the "bitterness" of the brown sugar was quite nice.

“Horrible food”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

We were craving for some authentic Nyonya food and imagine our disappointment at the end of the meal! We did not enjoy the food at all - bland, tasteless, not flavourful. It kind of put us off wanting to have any more Nyonya food throughout our holiday, thanks to the terrible food here.

“Good Food, Value for $.”
Reviewed 20 January 2013 via mobile

Was there on 4th jan 2013 on a short trip, As the four of us had decided to eat Nonya food when reaching Melaka. As most of my passenger were new in Melaka, I decided to head straight to town centre which I have been before. As we were driving around, we saw this big signboard at the shop- 'Big Nonya', we decided to try it out as it was during lunch hour and the traffic was very heavy. It was not crowded.
Food We ordered, brinja fried w grind prawn n chilli, (good), wine chicken, patie n squid in chilli, lady's finger with chilli(Nonya style). Otah(fishcake covered with the ingredient, not up to our expection as we thought it was thorough mix type.)
Lastly finish off with Chendol(wow! super!)Must try especially on a hot sunny day. Overall very good.
Oh yes! if you like coffe, further down and across the road there is this Old Town White Coffee..
