“Big Dissappointment”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

My wife, a friend and I visited this place for lunch recently. We had heard about this restaurant from friends and also seen a TV show where an Australian chef had visited this restaurant to chat with the chef at Big Nonya. The chef at this restaurant is one half of an excellent comedy act that was hugeley popular in Malaysia.
Our experience, however, was a big disappointment. The place was empty when we walked in and all the three dishes that we ordered were a let down............in presentation and taste. We know what to expect from Nonya food but this was a poor version of what could have been a great experience.

“Best meal in Melaka”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

All I can say is.......go there and try it for yourself!!

I loved it. Food was great and portions were big. Service was fantastic even though I could see that they were packed. The waitress made time and effort to explain the dishes and recommendations.

The owner Kenny was there and he was very humble. Will definitely go there again.

Tip : speak to the server, get recommendations and an understanding of the food. Everyone has a different palette, so not all dishes may suit you.

“Delicious”
Reviewed 12 December 2013 via mobile

We visited here because i saw the chef was on masterchef indonesia, so i wanna try the food. And it is delicious, me and my husband order chilli fried fish and sambal bendih (lady finger). Both are delicious, we love it. And we order ice cincau for drinks, it is also good, not to sweet and refreshing.
The restaurant is not to big, but they have 2nd floor. The staff was friendly also, she (i forgot to ask her name) explained the "bendih" to me patiently. :)
I would love to eat here again if i go to melaka in the future.

“Order the Ikan Goreng Cili (Fried Fish)!”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We saw this restaurant on a travel show and decided to give it a try. The restaurant belongs to celebrity chef Kenny Chan (who apparently played the nyonya(!) character in the longest-running Malaysian TV sitcom, Baba & Nyonya) so there is a cardboard cut out of him outside this restaurant.

We don't claim to be experts in Peranakan food but we found the food tasty and produce of high quality. The fried fish came was a whole fish (rather than fish fillets) and it had a great balance of sour and spicy and was cooked just right. The other recommended dish would be the Sambal Udang Petai (Prawns with Petai beans).

For dessert, we had the nyonya chendol. This was a tad too sweet for us, but the "bitterness" of the brown sugar was quite nice.

“Horrible food”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

We were craving for some authentic Nyonya food and imagine our disappointment at the end of the meal! We did not enjoy the food at all - bland, tasteless, not flavourful. It kind of put us off wanting to have any more Nyonya food throughout our holiday, thanks to the terrible food here.
