“A night's stay.”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

It was quite hard finding this hotel as it's at a new location,so they said. Checking in was a breeze. The hotel surprised me as it was really clean and the location is quite near to the attractions here in Malacca. The breakfast was quite dissapointing though, but what do you expect from a budget hotel, right ? All and all, i'd give this hotel 7 / 10.

Room Tip: There's a construction site at the front of the hotel, i would suggest requesting a room facing...

This is a budget hotel so don't expect any first class services. After staying here for 2 nights, I strongly recommend staying at the regular Hatten/Equatorial hotel if you want to unwind and properly relax in Malacca. I would not stay here even if I do come back to Malacca (which is unlikely, but besides the point).

1. Location
Mio is about a 15 minutes walk to the city centre, which is not exactly far but considering how much walking you need to do around the city centre, you'd be better with a hotel that is right at the city centre.

2. Poor customer service
When I requested for "something complimentary the hotel could do for us since it was a birthday getaway", they asked me if I would like a cake and that I would be charged for it. If I wanted to get a cake, I could do it myself. If you asked any big hotels for this, they would gladly decorate your room or get a small cake on the house or something, at least anything.

When I read online that the sounds from the pub were loud and I requested in advance for a room that is unaffected by the sound, possibly facing the river and away from the pub. The lady told me "sorry those are a different priced room". Okay, so what you're telling me is that for the price I paid, I deserve a room with interrupted sleep from the noise downstairs. She did not even offer any resolution, and true enough, I was kept up at night on the first night thanks to the music and drinking downstairs.

When I requested for late checkout due to my bus timing being at a weird hour at evening time, they only allowed late checkouts until 1pm and this was after multiple asking (regular check out 12pm), note that 3pm is their check in time (allowing themselves 2 full hours to prep the rooms). If you have to ask for it persistently, it's not customer service.

On my way out, I requested the front desk to call a taxi for me, and the person tells me "sorry we tried getting a cab in earlier just now but the cab drivers are saying there is a jam so we cannot get one for you. please go outside by the road to try and catch one yourself". And so we did it ourselves, in the heat out by the road flagging for our own cab. Minus customer service for the 4th time.

3. Breakfast
I understand that this is a budget hotel, but the breakfast spread is bad, like don't waste your time getting up for it. Plates were empty, you needed to fill yourself up with what's left which is cereal and watermelon. There were not enough seats for everyone so people were in the "lobby area" on the sofa sitting holding on to their plates to eat. If you can't do it well, don't bother having a breakfast spread at all? Don't promise something you can't deliver well on, this should be the rule of every service.

I fully understand that a budget hotel might be unable to have enough resources to improve their customer service and breakfast spread, however, I still feel that much of what I requested for was within their means of provision. I will not be a repeat customer here. If all you want is a bed to sleep then you can book this hotel, if you want to make any requests (any at all) during your stay, you would most likely find yourself disappointed.

Very fair price and good service. However, definitely not a boutique hotel.

If you are looking for somewhere with comfort rooms, nice staff, plus good location here is for you.
Please keep in mind this is not a resort, just budget plus hotel.

The hotel calls itself Boutique which is a bit misleading. It is a budget hotel with clean, comfortable rooms. The breakfast is very limited and a bit disappointing, and the washing up as you eat doesn't add to the ambience. It is a short walk into the main town area and we recommend sticking to the main road in the day and a taxi at night as we were unfortunate to have 2 men try to rob us..they failed! There is also a lot of construction going on opposite and a noisy bar/café below.
In short, it is ok for a stop over and you get what you pay for, but with a bit of effort and minor changes it could be a much nicer hotel.

The hotel is very comfortable. The rooms is small, but it is just nice for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children below 6). It is near to the tourist attractions, and is walking distance to food and attractions. The breakfast is served well at par to the price we paid.
Parking can be a problem because it is a common parking together with other offices. Try to be there earlier to avoid having to park far from hotel.
The only draw back is the toilet, where there are problems with the drainage system, and water flooded the entire toilets, and we can only take a very quick shower before the water flow into our room area.
The room is small, but very neat, with big LCD TV, LED lights and love the reading light besides the bed.
Overall, highly recommended for a short trip, and good for family vacation to Melaka.

Room Tip: Try to get a rooms facing the river, so you can catch a breathtaking view of the Malay settlements a...

1. Parking is shared with nearby construction site and pub next door so check in timely or will have to wait. 2. Air-con in room grossly under capacity, even at 18deg don't feel any breeze, advise to switch on upon check in and leave room to cool. 3. If u choose room canal view, be prepared to endure pub music till 3am. Cafeteria is filled with unbearable greasy smell due to poor ventilation, we opt for local breakfast at an old coffee shop across the street which serves tasty wanton mee, chicken rice, toast n strong aroma coffee. In all, at 200RM per room/night, you could get elsewhere more decent (eg. Jonker street) but expect to book early.
