“A Place to pray and reflect”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Listen this is a religious place so there overall theme will be Christian. As this place is famous like many European sites , there are people selling icons and items for keepsakes.Just think you are in a European city.To get here from Melaka bus station( out of state buses) there is an affordable bus service( blue bus) Do not get ripped off by the taxis. The street is one way and so for the return journey either walk through the other lanes or wait at the same stop that you got off. There is a Big Postoffice next door.
Back to the Church itself. There are excellent postcards produced by the Church and so is a revenue generation for the Church. The architecture is based on the talent of that period.
There are other excellent items.Around the Church area there are gaily painted trishaws with modern music.A nice place to visit and then you can see other parts of Melaka.

“HRH Queen Elizabeth II prayed in this Church!”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Originally named the Dutch reformed Church, the building bears all the landmarks of 18th century Dutch Architecture. Each of the 15 meter long roof beams are carved from a single tree. There are no aisles or chancel but there is an exquisite replica of the Last Supper in glazed tiles.Like most European Churches in those days, the floors are paved and embedded with tombstones. Dutch, Armenian,Portuguese memorial plaques adorned the Church interior to indicate people who died of various epidemics.
The Church took 12 years to complete till 1753 and is the oldest Protestant Church in Malaysia.
There is a 1773 Bible stand made of brass inscribed with the first verse of St.John in Dutch.
HRH Queen Elizabeth II visited Malacca 0n 16.3.1972 and prayed in this Church with the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne.
Worth every minute of your time spent here in this exquisite Church!

“European Architecture”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

This little church was built in 1753 by the Dutch to commemorate their centenary of owning Melaka. It was taken over in 1795 by the British who turned it Anglican and added a weather cock on top. It is plainly decorated inside with white-washed walls. Trisha drivers clog up the road infront, ringing their bells to get your attention. The church is a bit offer sanctuary from the tourist tat.

“Stunning Architecture”

Speechless. Impressed and stunned with the architecture. Make a round turn and feel that you're in those days back to 18 centuries
