The night markets are good fun, but very crowded. Stalls sell all manner of goods, but most are catering to the tourist market. Highly decorated and brightly lit tri-shaws cluster at the top of Jonker Street.

Some of the side streets between Jonker Street and Hereen Street have some great restaurants.

Amazing at the weekend, average at other times! On a weekend night, starve yourself and just enjoy the assortment of street food delight!

Must visit Jonker when you are in malacca! great local food along the entire street! however, parking can be a problem. Also have to be careful with your belongings, the locals constantly warn us about pickpockets

Jonker Street is not an interesting place to visit during the daytime - it’s just a row of souvenir and clothing shops that sells nothing particularly special. However, it definitely becomes more interesting on Friday or Saturday nights when the famous Jonker Street night market is set up. Dress lightly, as the weather here is hot and the jostling crowds can feel stifling. Also, be very careful of your valuables; while nothing happened to me and my friends, no less than three locals warned us to hug our handbags in front of us and to keep our cash in our front pockets so that we wouldn’t get pick-pocketed. Walk there instead of driving there, dealing with the traffic will just stress you out.

Most of the souvenirs sold in the night market are somewhat pricey, though they are unique and appear fairly well made; for example, we were extremely attracted to the RM30 3-D cards, which looked so delicate and tricky. The RM18 glow-in-the-dark ornaments were also really cool; somehow, the light emanating from them was much stronger and eerier-looking than what I’ve seen from glow-in-the-dark ornaments I’ve bought in supermarkets. Aside from that, there were a lot of cheap and tasty snacks being sold; my friend and I found the quail eggs with sausage on a stick to be quite unique (it cost RM5 for 2 sticks). The RM3 ice cream in egg cups was a wonderfully refreshing delight to eat after a hot day of walking about. These came in many flavors; I definitely recommend the Lychee one as it is very sweet and delicious. And lastly, my favorite Jonker Street snack was the RM3 fried ice cream, which came in flavors of chocolate, vanilla or mixed - it was just the right balance of hot and cold for me. There weren’t any proper rubbish bins around that we could see, which initially posed a problem for when we needed to dispose of our dirty tissues and food containers, but many of the stall owners were ok with us dumping our trash in their little bins if we asked nicely. All in all, the Jonker Street night market is worth a visit or two!
