A shabbier version of Singapore's Chinatown. Cramped and devoid of trees, it gets awfully hot and sweaty during the day. Not sure why the town council still allows automobile and motorcycle traffic to run through these tiny streets - either way, beware of snatch theft. Prices in local 'antique' (more like bric-a-brac) shops start at RM1,500 (US$500) for the most trivial of items. Overall, I expected more.

“Definitely not for small kids”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014 via mobile

If you are planning to go to jonker street, please don't drag your little ones with you. It is hot and crowded...you'll end feeling more frustrated than anything! Its definitely worth going if you do not have any little ones. Its any womans' shopping paradise and every man's food haven! Go....by all means go.....just don't torture your little ones by taking them with you.

“Lots of good food!”

Lots of good food, you can basically eat everything that malacca is famous of... For instance chicken rice balls, the one that is having long que is the one opposite the souvenir store "San Shu Gong"

“Busy but a little samey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

We visited here one Saturday night and we were disappointed that there were not more food stalls and many of the stalls were similar. However I would say it was a lot better than in other places such as KL.

It's one of the things to do on an evening - Friday and Saturday only I think. Also the street is pedestrianised which is good. There are plenty of restaurants nearby.

“Worth the visit”

Last time I visited malacca was 2001. Wow how malacca has really embraced it fascinating history and mixed culture. Jonker street was enjoyable to explore by day and night and the food in some restaurants was excellent and cheap. Highly recommend the area and malacca. Nancy's kitchen was excellent.
