We rented two single room suites side by side, unfortunately it's not adjoining. This hotel is just 500 meters away from Masjid Al-azim and Mekala General Hospital, facing the Lebuh Amj main road, so do expect lots of vehicle noise even with the windows closed and curtains drawn.

The fittings looks really old and worn, except for the kitchen built in cabinets which looks still new, probably hasn't been used by hotel guest. The floor is slightly dusty though not the most appalling condition, but dusty enough to take notice. You might want to keep your shoes on at all times, even the carpet looks really dirty.

Each room comes with free buffet breakfast for two. Non guest price is RM18 per person, which is the cheapest of all the hotels I've came across, and the food is 'cheap' too. The beef bacon is bland and tasteless, hash brown is soft and soggy, cereals looks like cheap knock off coco crunch and corn flakes, I liked their mee goreng which is cukup rasa not too salty or spicy, however the prawns and tofu used in the mee didn't taste fresh.

Staff courtesy is good. They would first ask politely when lending a hand like carrying our luggage by the bell boy. And the waiters are very well mannered and efficient too, cleaning the tables when a guest leave so that other guest will have their turn on it. Probably one of their strongest point for this hotel. Checking in and out was hassle free as our payment was made one month in advance, in cash.

Extra note: the parking space outside the hotel is under the municipal counsel jurisdiction and parking fines will be issued for cars parked illegally or without a parking ticket. The hotel parking is at the hotel basement which is free for use for guest, but its limited to 10 cars.

A lovely small and friendly hotel with incredible staff. Rooms are basic but clean and there is a shuttle service into the centre of the town. Food is only average but easier to eat in the town centre with all its restaurants. Only downside is not very efficient air conditioners if it is hot. Nice pool. Valuaefor money

OK.
Ive stayed in no star , ive stayed 5 star and if you have kids dont wast time looking around and procrastinating over a few bux, just go there and give it a try,

So this place aint the renaissance or any of those places but the staff aren`t robots either like in the super high priced places where they suck up to you with all those text book niceities ..

The rooms arent 100% but the price isnt huge either.
There are two pools, one for the littlies a swimming coach was there on the days we stayed ,

The food was better than most 4 star. they had a bigger variety and lots of little jars of little biscuits and nuts and thingy`s and every time my kid tossed his food at the wall or knocked his drink over , the staff just came and cleaned it up.......

All up worth a look if your busy this is pretty good .

Well.. i've booked for 2 night stay at the hotel but cancelled it to just one night stay. The other night we moved out to Hotel Sri Malaysia.
The room is nice but i'm not very satisfy with the bathroom cleanliness. It's slippery and had an unremovable stains..
However, the room service is good. I'd requested an ironing set and they send it less than 15 minutes after i hung up.
The restaurant and the food was nice.
I don't really have an opportunity to visit the swimming pool because it was raining that day but not just because of that. The pool located at the back of the hotel and in front of housing flat apartment. it just not so comfortable to swim around and get people watching you beside the hotels guest.
Overall... it just an ok hotel.

Booked 2 nights at the Straits Meridian based on the following criteria: secure underground parking and price.

We discovered a nice small hotel -- somewhat old and run down, but has a nice staff, price, and whoa and behold...a swimming pool. I checked elsewhere, and no other hotel at this price has a pool in Melaka. In fact, make that 2 pools, a larger 25m adult pool, and a kiddy pool. In Nov 2007, this hotel's rates were only slightly higher than the 1-star budget no-lift hotels in Melaka. So, to me, the rate I paid was a good deal.

The hotel is basic and old fashioned, but all the rooms are suites, which means that there is a "living room" and a separate bedroom. Also in the living room is a fridge and a stove (but with no utensils, its pretty pointless).

As of Nov 2007, some rooms have Wifi and satellite TV. Ours didn't, which meant we could only watch free to air Malaysian TV stations.

The rooms are old but clean. The buffet breakfast is ok, given the price.

The hotel is located outside the historic city, on the outer ring road. For those who know Melaka, it is on the same main road that can go to Muar, and also has the State Mosque, Central Bus Station and Tesco (!). However, the hotel also has scheduled free shuttle services to the Historical center (but we didn't use it, because we drove).

But what I liked most was the staff. All those we encountered were very friendly and quite knowledgeable, not just about the hotel's issues but also about local tourism too.
