Stayed for four nights in July while touring SE Asia. Room was basic, as expected, in charming old shophouse. A/C worked just fine; not always the case with older hotels. River view was great but river odor was not. Easy walk to Jonkers Street. Tasty breakfast included.
Marcia and Henry are excellent hosts and went out of their way to help when a medical problem arose on the first day of our stay. They found me a specialist, set up an appointment, drove me to the MDs office, and provided written directions to return to the hotel. Well beyond the service norm and much appreciated.

This lovely old house is right on the river and is full of atmosphere as well as being very well located. When the temperature rose too high we could nip back 'home' for half an hour's rest in the air-conditioning. Marcia and Henry are great hosts and very helpful. Excellent breakfasts are included in the cost of the rooms. The little shop is an additional bonus!

Room Tip: A room with a good river view is best

Until visiting this unique hotel, I was ready to shorten my holiday in Malaysia. I had been very disappointed in the level of customer service in Malaysia. The hosts Marcia and Henry with all the staff were able to develop trust and rapport by being knowledgable, kind and helpful. The rooms were spacious, well lit, with good air conditioning. They were serviced daily with towels that actually absorbed moisture. ( a rare thing indeed). The meals were simple but tasteful. In summary, the overall customer service made this the most enjoyable part of the 'Malaysian experience' to the point where the negatives were turned around to positives. Therefore, I will consider having another holiday in Malaysia.

Returning to Melaka after a decade we spent an enjoyable 2 nights in the family room of this well located hotel. The hotel's greatest advantage is it position next to the dramatically upgraded river and in the centre of the restored heritage area with many options for eating. The owners Marcia and Henry were very friendly and helpful while giving guests space. The western style breakfast is included in the price.
The room was a delight with older style furniture in a simple rustic manner, retaining elements of the original building.
We would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: seek a room with a river view

Great position on river close to everything. Our room was a comfortable old fashoned double with good view. The bathroom shabby and needed a bit of maintenance. Air conditioner noisy. Marcia and Henry Tan were very friendly and helpful even providing umbrellas on a rainy day. Cooked breakfast included in price. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights and would recommend it Definitely value for money. Night market in Jonker St on weekend is fantastic.

Room Tip: Upstairs double overlooking river

This hotel is in a beautiful old building and in a perfect location for exploring historical Malacca. Unfortunately, the rooms are not cared for well and are in poor condition. We could actually feel the springs of the bed while we were trying to sleep. The couple who run the place are definitely nice and helpful, and breakfast is tasty. It's a shame that the place is so run down. It would be acceptable if the price was lower - it is too high for what you get.

The host couple were very friendly. The house has character and it is located in the historical district of Melaka very near to the Stadhuys and Jonker Street. The room's (including the bathroom) furniture, fixtures and fittings are old. Even though we did not encounter bedbugs, there were other little bugs in the room. Breakfast was simple and wifi is available (and strongest) in the dining area on the ground floor at the dining area. There are plenty of good restaurants around. Given that I come to Melaka once a year and the choice of budget accomodations now available, I am not likely to come back hear again, even though I do not regret having stayed here.
