I made a last minute decision to visit Melaka and found a room at the Settlement Hotel. As soon as you check in, you're made most welcome with cup of tea. The rooms are impeccably clean and stylishly decorated and the beds - terrific - I had the best sleep ever! A breakfast buffet was served and included Malay, Chinese and Western dishes; you couldnt leave hungry!

I have a couple recommendations that I shared with the hotel - the mini bar is lighted and stored behind louvered doors. At night, when the room lights are off, an eerie blue glow emanates from the louvered doors. on the first night there, I woke up, and being very nearsighted, I thought I was seeing a ghost! Also, my room came with a safe which was located on the floor in a small closet below the coffee maker. I couldn't think of a more inconvenient place to put it.

Finally, be aware that the Settlement is not within walking distance from the historic area of Melaka. On the positive side, the hotel is very quiet for being on a busy street. On the negative side, you had to rely on their scheduled shuttle service or book a cab to get into town.

Thank you for staying with us. Thank you for your kind comments on our services.
We are so glad you like our accommodation room and that you have "your best sleep ever" with us :)
We appreciate your kind sharing.
Our hotel is located along the fringe of The Portuguese Settlement where the city's colonial
history began. It is 3.8KMs away from the Jonker's Street. The good points are, our hotel is away from the noise and the traffic jam. We run our shuttle services on calls & requests by guests till 23:59hr daily.
We thank you again. We look forward in welcoming you and your friends back soon.

The staff are ever friendly, helpful and polite. The place is very clean and neat. Quaint with touches of paranakan style. Has a nice, soothing and relaxing feel to the stay. It's quiet and the hotel is good not only for families but for a solo getaway. Nice to be able to sit upstairs in the dining area, sip lovely tea and watch the buzz of Melaka. Loved it!

We stayed here for a short weekend holiday, my girlfriend booked here from Agoda.com. At first, we spending efforts to find this hotel coz the entrance of this hotel is not so outstanding and by the time , we dun have great expectation here . Upon check-in the surprise begins, receptions are friendly, served us with welcome drinks and cold refreshing towels.
When we are up in the room, we are surprised that the room interior design is beautiful and special although not spacious. The management noted every tiny points, from furnitures, wash room to little toilet amenities shampoo bottle are differ with other conventional hotel.
The hotel surrounding not big but cozy, its a totally different world when you steps inside the hotel compare with outside world.
I can say the rates are worth for money and affordable, hopefully the management will maintain the standard when I return here again.

If you hv been staying in the usual modernist plastic & chrome city hotels, you will be pleasantly surprise at the decor and "Malaccan" feel of the Settlement Hotel.

I was in the Junior Suite for 2 nights and loved it. It has enough space to sit around, the washroom is huge. The hotel is small enough to be personal. And the staff is wonderfully obliging.

Please note that it is not in the town centre, so that's either a plus or a minus depending on what you are looking for. I prefer not to be in the centre of the busy town and crowds.

What I like:
-Floor tiles are evocative of the old Malaccan tiles. Gave the room and hotel great atmostphere. The staircase is the old 1970s mosaic type - reminds me of many old govt buildings (which was really what the hotel was in its previous life)
-Very well maintained, smallish and clean hotel
-Very comfortable beds and pillows
-Has a secured parking lot, not street parking
-Booking is wonderfully handled by Mr Que, it took all of 3 minutes to get what I want, followed immed by clear email instructions
-Great staff/service: Obliging and wonderful service from the front office staff & managers. Tq Shima and Liu, for your suggestions on places and eateries
-Love the free shuttle to town. I would use it rather than drive and park in the busy Jonkers' area. Coming back by taxi cost RM20-25

What could be improved:
-Breakfast was mediocre, the coffee is just darkish water, the rest not very appetising
-Suggest that the complimentary mini-bar is replenish daily rather than just once per stay -wouldn't cost much, and it's great to come back to cold drinks after the heat
-Covered parking bays - the car gets really hot!
-Managers need to keep a quality check on housekeeping -my room wasn't swept/vacuumed when I checked in, floor was full of hairs (it was ok after that)

Stay here if you are looking for a clean, safe hotel with good value and some atmostphere. Not if you would want to return to the hotel several times in-between sightseeing and shopping.. The hotel is an oasis of calm and airyness..

Tips
-There is a food court (evenings only) across the road that serves a variety of local food. the oyster-omelette is not bad. 7Eleven is nearby.
-At the Portuguese Settlement seafood square, be prepared for hoards of vendors descending on you. In the cacophony, your food is going to be a gamble anyway.. and it turned out the food we had at eatery 88 is mediocre..

Room Tip: Most rooms are quiet.

I had never experienced such friendly environment with the hotels in Malaysia, towel & welcome drinks upon arrival and the smile on their face reminds me of the hotels in Thailand. They even have the courtesy to asked if we would like to use their shuttle service to town. Just put the so called 5 star hotels around Malaysia to shame.

The room was great and perhaps some of the picks i could take on would be the breakfast which has quite limited range of choice. Anyway this is not a major concern for me as you would get better food around the town of Melaka. The other thing is the parking which is actually behind the property with limited space, once it is full you would have to basically park outside their hotel parking compound.
