Sooo many empty storefronts. Need a bead store for Mardi Gras, a souvenir shop for tee-shirts and magnets/coffee cups, and a quick place to grab a sandwich. Book store at end of block was only store with "life" in it.

An interesting walk down memory lane . . . feels like something out of the 1920's. Full of taverns, art dealers, restaurants, soda fountains, ice cream parlors, street vendors, old hardware emporiums, and just a taste of Americana from years gone by..

Looks and feels a bit like New Orleans and Bourbon Street but a little bit more civilized. I walked the old part of Dauphin Street during the daylight hours, but at night, it becomes a very crowded, very fun, very boisterous place to visit.

This was a pleasant place for a walk on a Sunday afternoon. The street is charming and the parks pretty. However, many places were closed, permanently, and many buildings had not been restored or spruced up. There were several bums sleeping on benches, etc.
The historical architecture is lovely. People were friendly.

I'm torn on Dauphin Street. On one hand, there are several local institutions that serve good food and are filled with good people. On the other hand, many storefronts are boarded up and empty and leave you with a sad feeling.

This should be a good destination. The problem is that most of the shops and stores, including restaurants, are closed and boarded up. There are a few exceptions and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a beautiful church, is one of the exceptions. Truly disappointing because this street is like so many others in Mobile, virtually deserted much of the time.
