“Wedding Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

This hotel is great. It's location is perfect for Historic District of Mobile. Free parking and
also a Continental Breakfast with plenty of choices. Staff is perfect. Stayed in a historic room the first night - and then moved to Courtyard room the second night. Reason for move - I am 5 feet
tall and the beds are very high - had to ask for a step stool. Adorable balcony - but to get to it
- you raise the window and climb out to get to it. It's part of the charm….but alas, needed a
room with regular beds - loved the Courtyard - but what makes this hotel is the STAFF…
Could not have asked for more. The charm of this hotel is the history, the balconies, free parking and free breakfast daily and the fact it is walkable to Historic District.

and most important - the Staff.

Room Tip: I loved the Courtyard rooms

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and for you generous score. I am so glad you enjoyed our courtyard rooms.. Everyone's tastes are different we do have many guests that enjoy the courtyard rooms more than the historic. We really hope to see you again soon.
Warm wishes

We stayed at the Malaga Inn July 25 & 26th 2014. We were attending my grandson's wedding. I had booked and paid for 8 rooms for the groom , groomsmen, and myself. Several other rooms were booked individually. The hotel was great, Vonnie at the front desk was very helpful and then our trouble began. The groom showed up to check in and was informed all the rooms were full. Finally they decided one was available and we thought everything was OK. When I went to check out I was informed that I owed for 2 additional rooms after trying to explain to the clerk (Chris) for about 30 minutes I just gave up and paid for the rooms. This would be a great hotel if you are looking for one room but I would NOT recommend for anything more. In the 2 nights we stayed there the room was not cleaned, beds not made, no fresh towels ect. Sad because it is a beautiful old hotel.

First, we would like to thank you and your family for choosing to spend your grandsons wedding weekend with us. We take special pride in being able to share with families such special occasions. After reading your review, we immediately began to investigate how this happened, and how we can we prevent this from happening again. After reviewing all our group information, arrival reports, registration cards, and speaking with all staff involved we have a clear picture of how this happened.

You had made arrangements prior to the group arrival to pay for a total 8 rooms. We had individual names for all rooms including who they were to be sharing with and notes regarding payment. One member of the wedding party, a groomsman who was to share his room with another groomsman, unexpectedly arrived with his girlfriend and as a result was placed in another room in your block. Unfortunately, this was a Double room you had reserved for the Bride and Groom. A few hours later, when the groom arrived, his room was already occupied by the groomsman and his girlfriend. Instead of moving the groomsman and his girlfriend to the room he was originally suppose to be in, the groom wanted a room with a king size bed. At that time, the only room with a king we had available was our King Suite and we made the suite available to the groom for his wedding weekend. You were present at the time this discussion was made, and aware that the addition brought your room count to 9.

Upon check out you brought your concerns to the front desk, and informed the desk agent that you were not going to pay for the extra room. At first it was decided that the groomsman that had taken the room with his girlfriend would pay for his own room, as another groomsman had done. And that seemed to resolve the situation. After speaking with the groom, you decided to pay for the extra room, even though you felt that was wrong. In an effort to compensate you the desk agent offered to reduce the rate of the suite from 195.00 per night to the standard rate of 104.00 per night plus tax. This amounts to a free night, not a charge for two additional rooms.

I also spoke with all Housekeepers on duty that weekend, and yes there was a delay in turning over towels and servicing rooms due to some extra time deep cleaning that had to be completed due to Friday night festivities.

In an effort to ensure we don’t experience these issues in the future, we have instituted new wedding group policies for check in requiring all rooming lists be made available for review by group leader and all front desk staff. And additional Housekeeping preparations and staff, for wedding party weekends will be implemented.

In closing, we feel all feed back is a very valuable tool and gives us the opportunity to improve, which is something we strive for everyday.

Thank you again so much for sharing your weekend with us, and we wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness.

We stayed at the Malaga Inn on the 4th of July and it was in a great location for dinner then fireworks at the bay. It has a very appealing entrance that takes you back 100+ years and a very inviting courtyard. The rooms in the addition are out dated but you can tell that from the pictures. I didn't expect a 5 star resort when I walked in. I can't say enough good things about the friendly staff. I would go back!

Room Tip: If possible stay in the original Inn

On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to thank you for those kind words. Our staff is the life blood that keeps it all running. We all truly enjoy the time we get to spend talking with our guests and making sure their stay in Mobile is a memorable one. We also appreciate the feedback regarding the rooms. I am pleased to report we are officially beginning a remodel that will address the issues you mention, without taking anything away from the character of the building. Come see us again, I think you will like what you see. Regards and best wishes.

This Inn was recommended through the Visitor Center and we couldn't be happier with it. It's a historic Hotel and the owner of the place greeted us with a warm welcome and was very helpful in finding a good restaurant specialized for Oysters, just a few blocks away. Our room was very clean and we like the homey feel to it. It was the best place we stayed at during our whole trip thru the south. We will never forget the funny chats with the owner.

Hubby and I stayed in Malaga Inn this week in our week-long trip in the south. We were going to a friend's wedding in the gulf shores but decided on Mobile as our first stop since we wanted to see the USS Alabama. I found this Inn through tripadvisor and we couldn't be happier with our choice! It's very historic and Jordan who's the 3rd generation owner of the place greeted us with a warm welcome. All the other staff were very helpful as well. Our room was very clean and we like the homey feel to it. It's located just a few blocks away from restaurants. My husband and I both agreed that it was the best place we stayed at during our whole trip, that we kept comparing it to every hotel that we stayed in, wishing they're like the Malaga Inn where we slept good, the AC worked great, and the room was spotless.

I took an impromptu trip to Mobile, and found Malaga Inn through Expedia. I could not be happier with my stay. The price was reasonable, the staff was helpful, the room was spotless, and the location was close to Dauphin Street, which is the main strip in town.

Malaga Inn a Unique Hotel in an Historic City
I’m just back from Mobile, Alabama one of a handful of historic port cities in the United States having been founded before its’ more famous neighbor New Orleans, in 1705. It was founded by the French, later taken by the Spanish, only to be retaken by the French, then the English before eventually becoming part of the United States. Such is the vast history of this wonderful old deep-south city. To make the time more enjoyable I chose to stay at the Malaga Inn, a lovely historic hotel in the heart of one of the six historic districts in the city.
While most people know of Savannah, Charleston and New Orleans, few have ever thought of Mobile in that vein. But it too shares much of the same history. To get that feel, the Malaga Inn is just the place. It is actually several old homes converted into a hotel. It is located in the Church Street District, which is actually located in what Mobilians would call “downtown.” It offers nice though not extravagant accommodations and the staff is very friendly, as were most of the people whom we met while visiting the port city.
The hotel is located on Church Street and faces Spanish Plaza, given to the city of Mobile by its’ sister city Malaga, Spain. Directly behind the hotel is the Mobile Civic Center. We happen to be there during the Distinguished Young Women, formerly known as American’s Junior Miss Pageant.
Just a couple of streets over you come the Catholic Cathedral and the Dauphin Street entertainment area…a milder version of Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Also not far from the hotel is Ft. Conde Welcome Center and the City of Mobile Museum. Mobile, AL is also home to the oldest Mardi Gras in the United States and has a nearby museum which is enjoyable.
While many do not think about Mobile, AL as a vacation destination, for those who like history, especially southern history, there is no better place than this city and there is no better place to stay in the city than in the boutique hotel known as Malaga Inn. The four or five homes converted into the hotel share an inner courtyard as one would expect to find in New Orleans. The courtyard as a lovely fountain and seating area. They also offer a continental breakfast for guests and free, secure parking at night. We enjoyed our stay very much!!!

Room Tip: We didn't but if you could get one of "front rooms" they enjoy wide balconies that ove...
