The Richards DAR House is a perfect example of the early architecture of Mobile. The DAR manages this museum and does an excellent job of providing tours.

“Wonderful step back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

This is such a well appointed, well maintained historic home. There is so much to appreciate from the furniture, the clothes, the quilts and the most beautiful chandeliers. To make it even more interesting, we had the most knowledgeable and engaging volunteer tour guide by the name of Sheila. We also felt that there was a nice family still living there; they just left for a little while so that we could visit their house. I would love to be able to see it during the holidays; it must be really special.

“Beautiful historic old home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

This beautiful old home was built in the middle of the 19th century. It's style is Italianate and it is filled with furniture from the 1800s. The home is located in a residential neighborhood and has an attractive garden in the rear. We showed up at 11:00am when it opened and happened to be the only ones on the tour of the place. The guide spent almost two hours with us and we really had a thorough tour of the house. There is no restriction on taking photos and there is plenty to photograph. At the end of the tour we were treated to hot spiced tea and cookies. For a fee of $5, this is a real bargain and shouldn't be missed by anyone who is visiting Mobile.
