Owner description: The names of 40 people killed in the battle for civil rights between 1954, when the U.S. Supreme Court outlawed segregation, and 1968, the year of the assassination of Martin Luther King, are embedded forever in this round, flat, granite sculpture. Water flows gently over the surface of the inspiring memorial, designed by Maya Lin, who also created the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

“Very interesting.”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

This activity was very interesting. There is always something new to learn about the civil rights movement. No matter how old you are some information will seem to be unheard of before.

“A sobering reminder of the sacrifices”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

It's a small place, but beautifully designed, a great tribute to those, both black and white, who lost their lives in the fight for racial equality, and a reminder that the fight is far from over.

“Somber and Informative”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

A small museum dedicated to those who worked for civil rights, many of whom lost their lives. Worth a visit if you have the time and are really interested in civil rights. It doesn't take long to go around, but it will leave you feeling very sad. Don't do this one before or after the Rosa Parks if you can help it. It is too much emotion for one day. Parking can present a problem around noon, but generally plenty of parking in the early morning.

“Waste of time”
Reviewed 25 November 2013 via mobile

Maybe I was expecting too much, but this place distorts history to further what appears to be the adjacent Southern Poverty Law Center agenda of racial discontent. So much good could be done here, but instead it seems designed to further racial tensions or introduce them to young visitors. Very disappointing.

“Terrific experience”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

The movie is outstanding, the "name wall"involves the audience, the outdoor water sculpture is truly amazing. The entire experience leaves a lasting impression regarding the civil rights movement.
