“Family Outing That Everyone Will Enjoy.”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Oak Mountain State Park is an adventure that everyone of all ages will enjoy. There are cabins, picnic facilities, swimming, golf, cycling, and a nature center. Canoes are available for reasonable renting. There is a nature center. You will want to hike to Peavine Falls. Hotels and Motels are close by . There is also a KOA campgrounds about a mile from the park. Very reasonable.

“Awesome Scenic Hike”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

My wife and I along with some friends decided to take advantage of the good weather on our trip to Alabama and hiked Peavine Falls. After getting a bit turned around we found our way and started out trek. It was simple yet rugged terrain and we enjoyed every minute of it, especially cooling off in the water at the bottom.

“A great place to hike”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Oak Mountain State Park is a great place to get a sense of wilderness and adventure only a short distance from Birmingham. The hiking trail system is excellent, ranging from short, easy trails to long and sometimes challenging trails that stretch out as many as 17 miles. One of my favorite things to do is start walking and decide as I go which trails I'll follow and how far I will go. The trails are well marked and maintained, and offer a variety of ecosystems along with beautiful creeks and vistas. Check out the trail map to plan your excursion, and use caution: the mountain bikers mean business when they come screaming down the mountain. For the most part you can avoid the bikers by staying on hiker-only trails. If you are looking for a nonstrenuous, round-trip excursion with children--or not--I recommend starting at the North Traihead and following either the white or yellow trail to Maggie's Glen. It's a lovely walk, and the destination offers a beautiful setting alongside a creek. Dog's are allowed on leash. Be sure to bring water.

“Hiker's Paradise”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Oak Mountain State Park is just south of Birmingham, AL. The park has miles of hiking trails that range from easy to strenuous. Choose a short trail or an all-day hike. Trails are all linked by connector trails, allowing you to switch trails easily. Many biking and horse trails also crisscross the park . Park has golf course, riding stables, clubhouse, boating facilities at the lake, nature center, and camp sites. Park is also a concert venue. $3 admission per person. Trail maps can be purchased at entrance for 50 cents. 5 minutes off I-65 at exit 46 in Pelham. A good family getaway.

“Beautifull hike to Peavine Falls”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

Oak Mountain State Park is adjacent to Birmingham, but it seems you are far from civilization while on the park. We used the campgrounds and did the 1.5 mile hike to Peavine Falls. The water fall plummets about 60 feet over a cliff and into a pool at the base of the falls. Very pretty. The trail to the base is very rugged. Take the alternate trail to the top of the falls if you want an easier hike.
