“Just Someplace To Eat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

We both had BBQ, mine was St. Louis style ribs, hers a pork sandwich. Both were light on sauce and almost seemed to be re-heated. Good meaty ribs served with choice of sides, I chose potato salad and vinegar slaw which were both average. Good sweet tea and very good service. Nice, clean and obviously popular place as it was filling up early on a weekday at about 5 PM. Under $20.00 fed us both with soft drinks included.

“Okay, Nothing Special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

We ate here on a week night, and the place was packed. A large party of at least 25 people were paying for their meal, so it was very crowded. A smaller party of 10 was seated across from us. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. We expected to wait on our food, but it was brought out quickly. We had fried catfish, onion rings and Texas toast. It was good, but a little greasy. This is a locally owned place that seems to be very popular.

“Obviously Popular, but lackluster experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2013

I noticed a sign on the highway boasting about Walton's hushpuppies and was intrigued. I stopped by for dinner on a week day night as the parking lot was full. The crowd seemed to be mostly older locals, and there was an amateur band tuning up in the next dining room. This is the kind of basic, nothing fancy, home-owned restaurant you often encounter in various tourist (fishing and hunting) areas.

I ordered smoked catfish with the waitress-recommended cajun seasoning, baked beans, and hot mustard slaw. The server delivered a basket of the famous hushpuppies before the meal, and there were two more on the plate. The catfish seemed overcooked, the baked beans out of the can, and the slaw, which was certainly quite spicy hot, seemed to be made with pre-packaged minced (not shredded) slaw which was completely flavorless. The hushpuppies are tasty, and I suspect their slightly sweet flavor is what makes them unique.

Looking around the room I saw lots of happy eaters, so I concluded that one should stick to the basics in this restaurant - fried food or steak and potatoes. Prices are reasonable.
