Our second visit to Laucala island - this time with our 9 year old and 5 year old boys. After visiting the first time, we knew what to expect and were not disappointed with this stunning resort. Since our first visit the management has changed hands and in our personal opinion for the better.
If you are thinking of visiting Fiji and can afford to stay here then skip looking at all the other resorts as you there isn't anything else quite like it.
From the large vast island to the luxurious villas, privacy and exceptional service ( most of the time ) - this is place dreams are made of.
Our boys were constantly busy swimming in the large pool, jet skiing, wake boarding or driving the golf carts around and making friends with all the staff. The beach boy staff are brilliant and will take the kids out on jet skis or walk with them while they look for crabs. A special mention must go to Mateo, Joeli & Tony. Mateo was a great help at keeping my 5 year old busy with painting and colouring in. Joeli is an exceptional and professional man who attended to anything we needed and Tony the head of concierge made our sons birthday unforgettable.
We also met some lovely other couples on the island and since have become good friends. Ignore the snotty stuck up guests - you might find one or two, but overall the other guests are always lovely and friendly.
If we are going to be really picky - and believe me its hard to find any faults on this island, then our improvements would be;
For the price you pay we felt let down that while sun baking at the main beach not a single staff member comes to you and offers you water. The bar is close by, but when you pay this amount of money, and based on other high end resorts, bringing a bottle of water and a cold towel would have been a nice touch.
While the resort has improved the lighting in the rooms, it is still very dark. I spoke to a few other guests and they also complained that trying to put makeup on at night was a struggle.
Our final suggestion based on other leading islands we have visited would be; to light up the beach at night with lanterns or candles and have bean bags on the sand. Guests could enjoy cocktails together down by the water and listen to the waves. Once a week outdoor cinema night. Just a suggestion based on other resorts we have loved that do this.
The island is close to perfect. We love it and look forward to returning with our children at the end of the year.
