“Awesome family holiday”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

This was our second time visiting Plantation island Resort- the first being on our homeymoon 8 years ago. On our first visit we thought what a fantastic place it would be for a fmaily holiday and always planned on coming back. We were not disappointed! We had initially been upset that we were unable to book a beachfromt bure (six months ahead they were all booked out) and ended up booking a garden studio at the Lomani end of the resort were the beach is better. Whilst we were placed in one of the older bures we were right on the beach and the kids could play in water at low tide whilst we watched from the 'deck'.The kids loved the coconut club activities (and of course the lovely staff there) and could choose each night what they wanted to do the following day from the activities board and mixed up visits to kids club with a trip to the shell villiage (highly recommended), handline fishing, canoeing, swimming/snorkelling and a trip in the glass bottom boat.

We had pre-booked the half board meal option and choose on a few nights to eat at the Black Coral Restuarant as a break from the buffet. We received a $45 credit per person which was enough to cover most of the mains with some left over to go towards a bottle of wine or dessert.

Being returning guests we were greated with a lovely fruit basket and bottle of bubbles and invited to the managers cocktail party for pre-dinner drinks on one night during our stay- a nice touch given the number of people who keep coming back to this island.

Looking forward to our next family holiday on plantation!

Room Tip: The beach is better at the Lomani end of the resort

Very run down, day beds far and few and broken, pools dirty with broken tiles, food very average, reminded us of being on a school camp, hardly any fresh fruit or vegetables. We had a pool room which was nice and big but miles from anywhere and as our other family was in the hotel room is was a bit of a trek if you left something behind. Some of the staff were fantastic others couldnt care less, which in a way I can understand as they do not get paid very well compared to what it cost to stay there. If you have a baby make sure you take a pram!!!!!!At the kids club a lot of the toys were broken etc.....

Room Tip: Go the bure's to the left of the resort, nicer beach....

I had myself so worked up after reading bad reviews of this island resort!
How wrong was I!!! This was our kids (aged 6 & 8) first overseas trip and it couldn't have gone better!

Our flight was on time, we had waiting time before we got the malolo cat out to the island so we were taken to plantation's sister motel Raffles for breakfast and a swim before making our way down to Port Denarau. The boat trip out was beautiful and scenic and just another experience our kids got to have.

On arrival we were taken to the bar area for check in which was quick and painless before being taken to our studio garden bure which was practically oceanfront. It was very clean, and surprisingly roomy. Yes the bathroom is dated, but what do you expect for a 3 star resort.

The service was impeccable! I kept hearing about Fijian time, but in the big scheme of things we didn't have to wait long at all. The waiters were lovely and always accommodating to our needs. The kids buffet was a little limiting for our children, but in saying that they never went hungry!

The kids club was amazing! I commented to my husband how nice it was to know the kids were safe and having fun. We didn't worry about them one bit, as we knew they were in good hands. The activities were great with tie dying shirts and painting shirts, building boats from coconuts, and learning & performing traditional Fijian dances. Tui and the crew went above and beyond to make our kids have an amazing holiday!!!!

The nightly entertainment was nice, especially when the island staff danced and sung for us, but the fire dancers were incredible.

The two "Bale's" playing guitar and singing for us at meal times is something that I will remember most from our Fiji holiday. They were amazing and I think they could sing the phone book and still sound great!

My kids haven't stopped talking about this holiday and will I'm sure have very fond memories of this trip. From lighting fire torches on the beach every night, to kayaking and snorkelling all in all I would highly recommend a family holiday to plantation Island.

Just remember it is a 3 star resort, and if you don't have kids under 10 years of age, it probably isn't the resort for you. Plantation Island and all the staff should take pride in knowing that they have given our children the experience of a lifetime! THANK YOU!

As a group of 11 adults and 7 children aged 2-9 we had a huge bucket list that had to be filled so that everyone would enjoy our family reunion.
After many many months of research on the net, I thought that I had found the perfect place - Plantation Island Resort as it ticked all the boxes.
After booking and waiting for our holiday to finally arrive I started to get worried after reading many negative reviews. I started to panic. What a silly thing to do, because we had a great time.
Yes there were things that was not what we had expected, but it is a 3 star and we knew that.
On a whole it was great. We had 2 great weeks together.

Food- Breakfast had a lot of variety. Buffet theme nights were good on the ones that we went to, some nights we dined at Ananda's as the buffet didn't offer much gluten free, such as Italian night. On a whole the food is good and we never heard of anyone getting sick while there. Our only complaint with the food was that the kids buffet needs more variety and food that the kids will eat, not stews, curries etc. Some nights the food was a good variety but on other nights the kids wouldn't eat there.

Rooms- We stayed in 5 one bedroom garden bures on the Lomani side Rooms 276 - 280. All rooms were clean and tidy and very large. As families with children we had heaps of room and the main bedroom has a bit of privacy for the adults. We only had a short walk to the beach and it was quiet up this end of the resort on the beach. They were working on bures near us but we never had a problem with the noise. And the workers were always friendly.

Staff and Service- As usual the Fiji people are wonderful and friendly and would do anything for us. My grandchildren love the Fijians and their parents were at easy with them taking the children while they were eating etc. Yes, the drinks may have been slow, but hey we are in Fiji and love the Fiji Time.

Kids Club- This was one of our disappointments on the holiday. Our kids were looking forward to spending time in kids club, as they had in other resorts, but this never happened. At night you had to sit and watch the movie, even if they didn't want to. They were not allowed to play in the climbing and ball pit and got into trouble for doing so. This meant that they then didn't want to go to kids club and play at all during the entire stay.

Location- What a wonderful location, the beaches and the snorkelling was just great. Beautiful white sand and snorkelling off the beach. The best snorkelling off the beach is on the Lomani side. A great place for teaching the kids to snorkel.
We recommend to do the Honeymooners reef snorkelling trip as the coral and fish here are so colourful and plentiful.
If you can afford it we would highly recommend that you get at least for one transfer a helicopter. As we had 18 in our group we needed 3 helicopters. This was one of the highlights of our holiday. It is breathtaking views and only takes 15 minutes to get there.

There is so much to do on this island that we never got to do everything that we had planned.

As we had booked 5 rooms we were given a private beach cocktail party, with drinks and canapé's and a cake. as this was our last night on the Island we upgraded it to a seafood/BBQ dinner. It was wonderful and we even had our own entertainment with 3 Fijians singing and playing music for us.

We had the privilege of being part of their Fiji Day Celebrations while staying there and had a great time. Everyone so relaxed and having fun.
We would highly recommend this resort, But need to remember it is 3 star and then you will have a great time

We have been visiting this resort over many years (since 1980) and it has lost some of its Fijian charm as it has grown in size. The resort caters for families and has many facilities but if you want a more traditional Fiji holiday you might want to try some of the smaller resorts in the Fijian islands. The accommodation was what was expected for the price and was serviced daily. Don't forget to bring your own shampoo/conditioner etc as toiletries are not supplied. If you are looking for a romantic/relaxing holiday this destination is probably not for you as I have said it caters for families, and children abound with the accompanying noise.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are out the back of the resort and do not get the cooling sea breeze.

This was our first overseas holiday and I'm so glad we chose Plantation. The beach is beautiful, sunsets are amazing, entertainment wonderful, staff are super friendly (I want to say Bula to everyone here now) and there is so much to do for the kids. We all had a truly fantastic holiday. I normally like holidaying in different places, but this is one place I really want to come back to.
