“We want to go back!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

We stayed on the island for 5 nights and I had read the reviews and was dreading our stay thinking I had made the wrong choice. But from the time we arrived to the time we left we loved it. The staff where very welcoming and helpful and really loved the kids. Yes there was a wait on arrival but with 50 guests arriving at a time you would expect that but we all got a free bottle of water even the kids. Because our room wasn't ready on time we were given a complimentary fruit basket which was a nice gesture and good start to our holiday. We stayed in a 2 bedroom garden bure that had been renovated and it was great for our family of 5. It was cleaned everyday with fresh towels and linen available daily. The bure had a small fridge and coffee & tea facilities which is a bonus. Swimming towels are also available and you could change them every 2 days. The food is a buffet meal or 3 course meal but had a different theme every night which was good and gave it variety. Overall we enjoyed the food and there are a lot of selection with the buffet and our kids got to eat free which was a bonus. There is also a snack bar by the beach for hot chips, pizzas etc...if you don't want to eat at the restaurant. We also ate at Anandas one night it was so beautiful outside under the lights & there's a park right beside it for the kids to play. Food was average and took a while to arrive, service wasn't the best but enjoyed the experience. Kids swam all the time in the sea on the inflatable toys and loved the different pools they could swim in. Pools cater for all ages. Kayaks & snorkelling gear always available. There is staff patrolling the beach & all kids must wear a life jacket when in the sea. You can see tropical
fish under the wharf & the sand bar snorkelling trip is well worth a look. The main toilets could do with an upgrade as they are quite outdated and often had a funny smell but were cleaned several times a day. Also umbrella stands & beach lounges are worn but did the job. A suggestion would be a changing shed by the beach in future. Overall we loved it and can't wait to go back.

Dear LJVanB,
We would love to have you back!
Thank you very much for the review with so much positive feedback. We take note of the areas where we were not so 'hot' such as restautant service. However, I am pleased to advise that we have now commenced in house service training throughout. Another area you mentioned were the pool loungers. Happy to advise that all have been replaced with new ones just a few days ago. More refurbishment for the resort is planned over the coming months.
Once again, thank you very much for your review and for holidaying at Plantation Island Resort.
Best regards,
Dave Woodman GM, Plantation Island Resort.

My husband and I went here to Plantation Island to have a tropical holiday and share in our friends Wedding celebration. We were both pleasantly surprised by what this resort has to offer. We will definitely be back with our kids.

We stayed in a hotel room that had garden and beach views and would gladly stay in the same accommodation again. Yes the bathroom was dated but VERY clean. Beautiful views and the room had air conditioning and ceiling fans. It also had tea and coffee making facilities. NO minibar so if your a drinker I would suggest purchasing your alcohol duty free and purchase coke or sprite at the Nando's supermarket to have drinks in your room. We did this and it was great for night caps.

We were worried about the negative reviews given but feel that some of the people have been overly negative and expecting a 5 star resort and were disappointed.

Upon arrival due to the number of people being on the Malolo Cat it is a little un-organised but if you appreciate what "Fiji Time" is I would suggest just going with it and you will enjoy your time here alot more.

The Fijian's are beautiful friendly people and we enjoyed our time here very much. We had a few hiccups along the way such as; the water stopped running in our room - this was immediately fixed upon polite complaint to the front desk. The room cleaning was all over the place as the times they clean can vary - again though was immediately rectified upon reporting to the front desk. These were the only real downers to this resort and enjoyed our holiday very much.

There are TWO menus at the Ol Copra Shed for dinner. A "themed buffet" that changes nightly as does the "chefs menu" where you get a 3 course meal with a choice of the main. We chose the half board plan for meals (breakfast and dinner) and would recommend you do the same. Much more economical and better value for money. The food is nothing flash but if we didn't like what was on offer at the buffet we would ask for the chefs menu. I personally preferred this menu. We didn't try Anandas or Lomani's but our friends did and ate there regularly. There are plenty of places to purchase lunch and the Copra Shed did a lunch buffet each day as well as we didn't have our kids with us we filled up at the breakfast buffet and didn't require anything till dinner.

All meals, drinks, souvenirs, day trips, purchases etc can all be charged back to your room. Be sure to give your self time to peruse the final bill and pick up any discrepancies. We were on a "My time" package and few things were missed and again politely fixed up. NO problems. We are coffee drinkers and loved the Coco Hut where we purchased our lattes.

We had Wifi in our room which worked fantastic. We had massages at the salon at $40fj per half an hour and recommend this. The salon is VERY busy so you must book at least a day in advance for services. I had a manicure and pedicure for $30fj and enjoyed the pampering very much. There is nightly entertainment and children aren't restricted to come and sit with mum and dad whilst enjoying the later entertainment after 9pm. Nightly shows, discos, fijian and polynesian dancers are a nightly norm. We even were amused by the frog and crab races one evening as well. Our last night there my husband and myself were apart of the Mr Plantation contest and we won....quite a buzz for the final night to our holiday.

Because this is a family resort there are children and babies everywhere you go. That said we being a couple without our children still enjoyed a romantic time here at Plantation. There are plenty of places such as beach walks, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkelling etc to do to avoid children. If you are surfers the breaks here are fantastic and leave early morning daily. There are 3 pools one of which adults only. We chose to swim in the ocean as the water is crystal clear, warm and is gorgeous for snorkelling and just swimming around. Eating your evening meal on a candlelit beach was what we did every night. We had a few nights of children sitting sitting close to us but didn't spoil anything. The resort were aware we didn't have our children with us and tryed to seat us away a bit from children but it didn't bother us all. We can't wait to bring our kids along to this resort next time. Plantation has made us fall in love with them.

Room Tip: We stayed in a hotel room that was on the second floor and had beach and garden views. The bathroom...

Our trip was mostly positive. Our room was lovely and clean and we had plenty of lovely, fluffy towels each day. There was also plenty of room for all of us. The pools were wonderful and my kids loved the water slide! Kayaking was fun too. Plus they have a very cool inflatable thing in the sea kids climb up and jump off (my kids were a bit too little but heaps of kids were using it).

The kids club is handy too. My kids only went for a couple of hours each time then I picked them up to cool down in the pool. They liked the activities provided and the playground. They also joined in the after dinner kids club activities, which was a lot of fun.

The meals were not the best, however they weren't too bad either. There was plenty of variety each night and I didn't have to cook or clean so immensely enjoyed the buffets.

Some things around the resort were a bit run down but didn't affect our holiday too much. The playground did have a cracked slide, which worried me however my kids managed to miss that spot. There was also a really rusty chain kids climb across.

Staff were about 50% friendly, 50% not so much, but again this didn't affect us too much. I think the check in process could be better - there is a lot of waiting around and no communication as to what is happening. All of a sudden, a group is told to follow someone and the group just looks confused.

Overall we had a nice holiday and would recommend Plantation Island to other families.

Room Tip: I'd recommend upgrading to at least a one bedroom if you have a family for the extra space. Also...

We stayed at the resort with our 2 year old. Overall the experience was very positive and we enjoyed all the activities that have been organised each day by the resort.

There is plenty to do for kids all ages, from swimming pool to golf to kids club starting from early hours in the morning and ending late at night.

We found the resort a bit run down. We originally booked to stay in a hotel room but them upgraded to a bungalow before leaving home. However when we arrived the resort didn't process our upgrade and we had to spend our first night in a run down, noisy hotel room which had water running through the pipes all night which kept us awake. But when we were transferred to a bungalow everything became better. This accommodation is more modern and clean and is in a very good location. However the room cleaning was very basic and we had to ask to replenish our soap and tea making supplies.

The buffet was basic but there was always a healthy range available of meat, veges, salads and fruit. The service however wasn't very good, on a number of occasions during our stay we were shown to a table and when we came back with our plates to find that our table was given to someone else. As well as we had our full plates cleared at least 5 times during our stay while we were getting something extra from the buffet. This made our dining experience quite stressful.

Overall it is a good resort and we were delighted with the friendliness of staff

We went back to Plantation Island Resort after our 2012 trip because we enjoyed it so much ... and it is super run down! So disappointing! The food was terrible and chaotic with no meals until 6pm so the children were all starving and crying and grumpy so the noise level was deafening! The food itself was very below standard with either a buffet or a 3 course meal offered so nothing for smaller eaters - dinners therefore cost FJ$50 and were no way worth it! We mostly ate at Musket Cove which was delicious with a kiwi chef on board but this meant we couldn't get back for the 7pm kids entertainment each night which was disappointing. The welcoming itself was shocking with us waiting for an hour in the lounge until we finally got our key and showed ourselves to the room where we waiting another hour for our bags so the whole day was wasted waiting, waiting, waiting (as we had to wait an hour at the airport for the shuttle to arrive to take us to Denerau). The water in the room was salt water (shower, brush teeth) and the shower head was falling off the wall - the taps squeaked terribly when turned on - we constantly had to ask for replacement towels, face cloths, hand towels as they were always short of them. The last 2 days we had no beach towels because they had none due to their washing machines having packed it in (we ended up using the bath towels which was very much frowned upon but what do you do). Very disappointing - every day we had an amazing day on an amazing island only to have it ruined each night by the hassle with the food and the beds were SO uncomfortable that we all woke in agony each morning (one of our travellers took the swabs off the couch and lay them on the ground to sleep as this was better than the beds). Definitely will not be going back any time soon - super disappointing!

We are a family of 5 with 3 kids aged 6, 9 & 10. We have just returned from a fantastic holiday last week.

To be honest I was quite apprehensive about our trip because of a lot of the reviews on trip advisor are very negative. I was preparing for a run down, unsafe resort, and eating bread rolls for a week, but this was nowhere near how it turned out to be.

We like to stay in nice places and because this is only 3 star we weren't expecting too much but were pleasantly surprised.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom bure which was one row behind the beach front bures but still had sea views. We were in the Lomani end in the 200 block which is the newer end.

The rooms were lovely. There was a queen bed in the main bedroom, 2 singles in the 2nd room, and 2 large sofas (king single size) which made beds in the lounge. The bathroom is nice and new with tiles and a walk in shower. No bath in here which could be a pain with little kids. There were fans in all rooms and air con as we'll. the kitchen area is just a bench and cupboards with tea and coffee and a fridge. No cutlery or crockery or sink. We took packaged chips, muesli bars etc and I did take plastic plates and cutlery but we didn't end up using it.

The beach is beautiful and although I am not normally one to swim in the sea, I swam all the time. The water was beautiful and warm - no waves at all. The sea was a bit warmer than the 3 pools.

The kids LOVED the waterpark with the blow up slide. They spent hours on it and it really was a huge part of the holiday. Kids had to wear life jackets when using the waterpark which was good so even little ones were safe sliding into deeper water.
When they weren't in the sea they were enjoying the pools. The kids pool had the curved water slide which was great fun. We didn't notice anything dangerous or broken on the slide - apart from it lifting to the side at the bottom when 3 or 4 of them went down in a group :-). The other pools were great and kids alternated between them all.

We ate in the old copra buffet restaurant mainly but went to Ananda's one night. Old copra is buffet but does have a fixed 3 course menu each night. We just went with the buffet option as it was the same price $50FJD PP. Kids 3-11 were $24FJD each. There was a huge amount of food to choose from. Great selection of salads through to meat dishes. Each night had a different theme such as Fijian, curry,BBQ, Mediterranean etc. book early if you want a table outside and specify where you want to sit.

For breakfast we ate the buffet at old copra. Again there was no separate menu so you couldn't just order a small breakfast but we didn't have lunch so had a decent 'brunch'. There was a great selection again from fresh fruits, cereals through to full cooked options like eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes etc. you can even get a freshly made omelette with your choice of fillings.

Ananda's had its own menu so it was nice to go somewhere different one night. It's about a 5 minute walk from the main area of the resort and has a kids playground by it which was good for littlleies.

We walked down to musket cove one day and it looked gorgeous there. The menu looked great and we wanted to go eat there but never quite made it. (I had planned to eat there all the time after reading reviews, but there was no need.)

We never had lunch so can't comment on the menu but there is a snack bar which does hot chips, burgers, etc for $7-15 FJD so this is a good option if you want something smaller.

There is also the cocohut which does smoothies & coffee. They call it a juice bar but don't do fresh juices at all. Smoothies just about all had ice cream in them and cost $6-8. There were 1 or 2 fruit juice slushies which were fresh juice in crushed ice. They would have been the healthiest option. Water was $1.5fjd per litre and you could get your bottle refilled for free with filtered water, but we thought it safer to just buy it bottled each time.
Cocktails were about $18 and beer $6 for fiji bitter/$10 for corona. Coke etc was about $4.50.

We bought our own duty free alcohol and bought sprite etc at Ananda's supermarket or there's a small convenience store by the snack bar.

The girls got their hair braided and cost was $75FJD for long hair. The beauty salon is VERY busy so book as soon as you arrive if you want hair done or for massages etc. half hour massage is $40.

There is a laundry with washers and dryers for $5 each.

You can charge everything back to your room which is a great idea. We just got a print out and checked through it all before check out. Do this early if you have a lot to go through so you can query envy thing you need to. Ours was all fine and there were no discrepancies.

You can get a wi if voucher to use. 3 gb for 1 week was $80. You can only use 1 device at a time. Shorter wifi vouchers are available but I think 1 day was about $25 or half hour $10.

There were a lot of people with babies and young kids there and it looked like some parents were having a stressful holiday but it's really what you make of it. Of course with young kids it's never a relaxing holiday but that comes with them growing up. There was kids club which ours only went to a couple of times for different activities. Babysitters were available and looked like a lot of families used them.

The staff were lovely and friendly and were so nice. I think the negative comments on here are from people who expect too much. Take time to talk to the staff and you will soon see how lovely they are.

The resort is older and yes there are some areas that are old and don't look the best, plus some loungers are broken and the place could do with a bit of an update. Don't let the negative reviews put you off. This was great fun and had sun, swimmimg and relaxation that we all loved. We would definitely go back.

Bula vinaka!

This was a surfing trip for me, so the location of Malolo island and the price was what made this "very good" for me. Would struggle to say this place is romantic as there are kids crying everywhere as it is a kids resort. I recommend reading the negative reviews so you are prepared for the downside of this resort. Yes it is older and yes the food has to cater to the masses but it is only aiming to be a 3 star resort and that is what it is. I was prepared for a dodgy place (based on the negative reviews); and was happy with the hotel room i got on the second floor. It was large (separate lounge and bed space) and adequate. If you were on the ground floor I suspect you would hear upstair's foot print. But if you run the airconditioner, all you will hear is that cos it's freakin' rattling and something from the 1970s. The positives of this place are: a) location, nice water on your doorstep, and 15mins on a boat to Namuto Left to surf abit further is Cloudbreak; b) It was just a bit over A$200/night and with such a large room with 2 couches I think you could bring your mates and avg your costs down per person; c) Conveniently in the middle of the two other resorts Lomani (no kids allowed) and Muscat (expensive), so if you wanted to eat as those higher starred resorts it was a 5-10min easy walk; d) if you are use to paying Sydney prices at a 7 11, the resort grocery store is convenient, well stocked and comparably priced to Sydney. e) hotel rooms were close to the amenities, whereas some bures seemed like they were 500m away; f) the breakfast buffet was ample enough that if you ate big in the morning, you could almost do without lunch. The negatives a) Anandi's the a la carte place was pretty average food quality (edible but did not inspire me to eat there twice) but i am being really harsh; b) buffets bring with it questionable hygiene from other customers (so not the fault of the resort), so tongs may be dropped or left sitting on food you consider eating. Because so many kids are there, they don't care and just dump stuff everywhere (but parents probably understand this and won't consider this a negative); c) smokers. When they smoke on their balcony (shared by all hotel rooms as the walkway), this goes straight into your hotel room because you leave all the windows open (because of the heat). Again probably not the hotel's fault but for me that was a negative and nothing can be done about it so deal with it. For those surfers wondering if this is located well for Cloudbreak and Namuto, the answer is yes (FJD70 each for 3 hours). Lexmee Surf leave twice daily to these breaks but it is based on min 3pax and majority rules as to where you go. If you want to go to namuto and the majority want to go to cloudbreak, you will be outvoted. Closer islands to these breaks I believe are more expensive so i was happy to be at Plantation Island Resort.

Room Tip: Bures may be miles away from the restaurant and centre of the resort (for catching the ferry and usi...
