“Simply Beautiful”
Reviewed 29 July 2010

My partner and I both aged 21 spent 6 nights at Plantation Island Resort. Upon arrival we were taken away by the crystal clear water! The transfers on the Malolo Cat were easy and hassle free, we didn't need to worry about our luggage as it was taken straight to our room upon arrival. We were upgraded from an upstairs hotel room to a garden bure upon arrival. The bure was huge for just two people! The air conditioner was quiet and it didn't take long to cool the bure down in the afternoons. The staff are so friendly, Bill in particular has left a lasting impression with us! It was so nice to be greeted with his friendly smile and laughter all the time! We choose not to do the meal plan instead we would split breakfasts between the snack bar and the restaurant, lunch again from the snack bar and we would alternate between a'la carte and the buffet - the fettucine and chicken is a must try!! The free snorkeling is a must do we went out twice to 2 different reefs and each time saw different types of fish. The island hopping was a great insight into other resorts however Plantation definitely came out on top!
We were also there during a "full house" however as someone else suggested it was never a problem finding your own spot on the beach or a nice hammock to curl up in for the day!
As others have suggested there is a sewage smell in the afternoons however it is not as overwhelming as some have suggested!
I cannot wait to return to Plantation Island Resort it is fantastic value for money in the perfect location!

We have just returned from 6 nights on PIR with our 5 and 7 year old children. Reading some of the previous negative reviews I was a little nervous about going. Thankfully we had an extremely positive experience and none of us wanted to come home. My son whom I was sure would be suffering from Wii withdrawals by the end of our stay was very sad to come home.

As we approached the island on the Malolo Cat we were immediately struck by the beauty of the location. This and the position of our bure really made our trip a great one. We stayed in a Studio Garden Bure at the 200 end right near the beach which was wonderful. Great for watching the kids play on the beach. I would never get sick of that beautiful view. The room was basic but large and cleaned daily. It met our expectations of a 3 star resort. There were always staff out and about working on maintaining the grounds and facilities. We got to know our neighbours who were really lovely and had visited PIR several times. It really added to our whole experience.

Overall we found the staff friendly and helpful. Yes, sometimes the service could be a little slow but hey we were on holidays so what's the rush! if things were a little slow the staff were always apologetic. The food was a bit hit and miss but they do a great cocktail. We had a meal deal which was for the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. My hint would be check out the theme for the buffet each night (menu out displayed in "old copra shed") and if it doesn't appeal head to Annandas or book a table at Lomani's Flame tree. If we went again we would probably only opt for a meal plan on some days. There were a couple of good little supermarkets on the island where you could get yourself provisions for light snacks. I reckon we could have skipped lunch on most days if we'd done that.

One of the big pluses we found was the range of activities that were either free or a very reasonable price. Our kids loved the putt putt, tennis, slide pool and even the lawn bowls (all free). Kids club was great and both our children couldn't wait to get there of a night. Ritchie the fire lighter was a real hit. I hope he is now enjoying his well earned holiday. The snorkelling is fantastic with such a variety of fish to see and so close to shore. The spot with the clown fish that the previous reviewer mentioned is a real little gem. Go further out though past the pontoon to the drop off from the reef to see bigger fish and coral caves. It was a definite highlight of the trip. The walk up to the gallery was also worthwhile.

By the end of our stay the resort seemed to be at about full capacity but it didn't feel like it. This is probably because there is such a variety of things to do and the resort spreads over quite a large area.

We did see the occasional really uptight group of people at meal times complaining about the voucher system etc. All I can say is RELAX you're on holidays and embrace "Fiji time". Overall I would say don't go if you want 5 star accomodation and facilties. Remember that it is a 3 star resort and have realistic expectations. If good value, a great beach, snorkelling and a relaxed atmosphere with plenty to keep the kids occupied is more important i reckon you can't go past PIR. We have already started saving to go again. We'll stay longer next time.

Our family chose Planation Island again for the second time to visit and this time it was to celebrate a birthday. One that won't be forgotten, especially when the staff all come out clapping and singing with their beautiful voices carrying a lovely birthday cake all lit up. Vinaka.

Plantation Island is a three star resort with a magnificient lagoon, beach, blue water, tons of fish, friendly staff and perfect weather! Thank you for our warm welcome, the beautiful hand woven fruit basket and champagne that awaited us in the fridge - not to forget the upgrade from a hotel room to a poolside bure! Totally unexpected and very much appreciated - thank you!

Often I read the reviews about Plantation Island on trip advisor and feel quite disappointed at some of the comments. Gosh for a 3 star resort it is fantastic value for money. I think we should remind ourselves that when on holiday we shouldn't compare Plantation Island Resort to our own shores. Goodness ,,,,, holdiays are meant to be chill out time - fiji time - that;s what's so good about it. There's no need to rush and complain about waiting for water. Sure at times we waited - and reminded staff at times but give them a go - the staff were flat out and I think do an amazing job to accomodate everyones needs. We had the opportunity to visit other islands, oh yes they are beautiful but compare the prices and Plantation is really great value for money in an outstanding location. The beach there is amazing!!

Our party were of mixed ages - the yongest 16, 19, 20 and three older members. Everyone enjoyed this trip. The beauty of Plantation is that one could do little or lots. We took the buffet plan and yes maybe next time I may do half and half - that is order off the menu at times as the meals were beautiful. The spinach gnocci is superb and the kids were glad to see it was still on the menu. My husband loved the buffet, good variety of foods.

As Plantation was full to capacity i asked myself where are all the people? The beach was empty sometimes. The fish are amazing. The clown fish family still live off the pipe and the reef is a little battered around the edges but some colorful coral was still to be seen. The free snorkelling trip was amazing - took some bread out and fish aplenty!

It was lovely to see Kata again - you are full of energy! Work all day then play volleyball with the staff! Avito you are a star and Thomasi just superb. Thank you to everyone else too - all very polite and you do a great job. Eddy at the bar is a champion. I suggest people to get to know some of the staff - they are friendly, caring people. My kids 16 and 19 just adored them. I also noticed a couple of visitors that had a disability. This really brought it home because the staff nutured them, laughed with them and included these people in everything. Brought smiles all round.

So yes I am a fan and shall return. It was lovely to see the owner of the island once again in the distance - I can see why he chose to live out in the Mamanucas.

Our visit to the Malolo District School was hearfelt and inspirational - after donating goods for the school we are gping to raise funds for a lap top for the principal. At low tide the children have to walk to school from other islands...,, how many of our kids have to do this? I am going back and cannot wait. Thanks to Suji for organising this for us and thank you to all the children at the school on Solevu. Vinaka!

ages of our group 84, 76, 51, 8. four the first 4 days we were in a deluxe garden bureau, sleeps 8, two bathrooms. The last 6 days in a beachside bureau 1 bathroom. We asked for help with transporting my mother to and from the restaurant and to a restaurant at the Lomani resort nearby. This was always provided without hesitation. We had purchased from our travel agent 10 days of breakfast/ dinner for adults and my son ate free for three meals a day. We liked the buffet food, plentry of fresh fruit, vegetables, salads, meats. We could have bought the same package on a daily basis for the same price at the resort and will do that next time. The adult dinner voucher could be used at either Lomani resort "flames" restaurant or "Anandas" to a value of $25.00 . you pay anything over this. We enjoyed our meal and the entertainment especially at Lomani. Its a good choice for a change however the coffee Brulee wasn't like 'Brulee" we are used to. I loved the 'free' snorkelling trip the best(saw the most fish) Did the dolphin trip which had snorkelling, saw heaps of dolphins but fewer fish on that reef. My son who is eight loved the kids club, beach games crab races etc. This holiday met everyones needs, the weather was perfect,. I chose this resort for the snorkelling, kids club and because it is large enough to go for some good walks.
We left Chch Nz at 6.00am and arrived on the last boat that day-and we were taken to reception as a group to get information, keys and vouchers for the week. I feel that is an area that could be improved on. we were so tired after after a long day and couldn't take everything in. Also I was puzzled a few times at dinner in the restaurant, when the water we had ordered either didn't or took a very long time to arrive. I would recommend Planatation Island resort to anyone happy with a three star resort. We loved our holiday and the friendly Fijians. Bula. Vinaka

This is our 3rd trip to Plantation in a beach front bure. We love it here.

Yes it's a 3 star resort and it the food and service, cleanliness, decor all reflect this. It is good value for money.

Book all your day trips/snorkelling/hair braiding/tennis on the day you arrive or the next day, that way you will get what you want. (especially if you go in holidays). If you are a keen tennis player, take your own raquets and balls as Plantations need upgrading.

The location is first class and we all had a ball.

We will definitely be returning.

We stayed one night at the Radisson Denauru on the return and this was fantastic.

Just back from 9 nights on Plantation with our 6 yr olds. Had an absolutely amazing time - read the negative reviews and was a bit worried, but we loved it! Beautiful beach, lot's of activities - the kids loved the kayaks and snorkelling.
We stayed in a hotel room - a bit dated but clean and practical. Our bed was separated from the kids which was great. Were only in our room to sleep really - were on the beach or in the water most of the time. The kids ate early each night and then went to kids club while we dined (or just played on the sand) next to us. It was school holidays and the resort was full but it didn't feel too crammed as the resort is so big. With 3 pools sometimes you virtually had a pool to yourself.
The food was fine - pretty much what we expected - the boys loved all the ice creams!
The kids loved kids club, and went to some day sessions as well.
The dolphin safari is amazing, as are the free snorkelling trips to the sand bar. Definitey do the village trip, and visit the school - a very inspirational group of teachers and students.
The water is crystal clear, the hammocks plentiful, and the atmosphere relaxed and inviting. The bures at the Lomani end are the pick of the bunch (the 200's).
Overall - an amazing holiday, would definitely recommend Plantation for families - happy kids, relaxed parents...can't wait to go back. Fourth trip to Fiji, first on Plantation - kids have proclaimed it "the best holiday ever"!! If you are a family with young children it is a fantastic choice.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay on Plantation Island. There was four families in total with children aged 10 to 17 years.
Plantaion Island is definitely postcard material the scenery is amazing. The food could definitely do with improving, the activities are excellent but just need to remember to book them pretty well straight away when you get there to avoid dissapointment. There are a few mini marts on the island where you can almost purchase anything. The staff are very helpful & friendly & make you feel so welcome everyone you pass always says Bula!
I would definitely return here it is only 3 star but a very reasonable priced holiday in paradise.
