“Great Tropical Island Resort”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We stayed at Musket Cove for 3 nights, in a Beach Bure, in early June. It was a last minute decision to attend a wedding on Malolo Lailai Island, where the resort is situated. The actual wedding was at a nearby resort. The arrival and welcome was great and Nai the welcome host was perfect for her role and so were all of the other staff at the resort. The Beach Bure was superb: large, spacious, well decorated, absolute beach front, with 2 lounges & a hammock outside there was no shortage of places to sit or lie down. The food was great and well presented and the restaurant area is adjacent to the large pool and it looks out over the beach. The resort offers a number of activities, some free and some with a small fee, depending on how active you want to be. Due to our limited time, we only did a short snorkelling trip. The only criticism is that there were too many guest (20), on the small boat took us snorkelling and only 1 crew member. Our biggest regret is that, we did not have more time at the resort. Well done to the management & staff.

Room Tip: The Beach Bures are definitely the best, a little bit more than the other types of accommodation, bu...

We stayed in the Armstrong Villa for a wedding, party of about 50 guests
for ten days.

Positives
ABOUT THE RESORT
- The Welcome and the atmosphere was fantastic
- little shop available for small purchases including water
- Nanny service -CHEAP , made our guests trip that much more enjoyable
- BREAKFAST - great options, I recommend getting it included.
- Free Snorkelling twice a day
- Great communal area
- picturesque beach
- Beach bar, with BBQ facilities and bar.

ABOUT THE ROOM
- Lovely and big. Perfect for four of us.
- Good Aircon
- Nice views

Negatives
ABOUT THE RESORT
- Not varied enough food options for ten days, food was also very western and pricey to eat there every day for ten days
- Not great wine and champagne options
- Ten or so sun loungers around the pool, not enough shade
-WIFI - NEARLY NON EXISANT and for how much the rooms are, should be free. $5 or half an hour ish.

ABOUT THE ROOM
- Really far away from the pool, beach and main hub. I do not recommend if you have elderly guests. You can hire bikes at an additional fee. Given how expensive our villa as should have been complimentary. If your guests cant ride a bike do not book the Armstrong Villa.

OVERALL
Lovely resort for maybe a five day holiday. BEACH rooms, highly highly recommend.
The party paying for the wedding had other issues with wedding specifics. If you are booking for a wedding feel free to message me.
Beautiful place. Would be better with some minor adjustments.

Greetings from Musket and thanks for your feedback and compliments.
If anyone has doubts about our food or wine selections please check our website. Lunch, Dinner menus and wine list are posted.
In my humble opinion, offering 11 sparkling wines and champagnes is what most would consider an excellent choice.
To be honest we really do our best to maintain "value for money" pricing. No one, including myself likes being stitched up. All alcohol pricing includes 20% taxes and Fiji has a 38% import duty on imported alcohol. Therefore making it challenging. But I think most will find some very well priced, good value wines.
In addition to a la carte each day. We offer theme night buffets - Monday - Fiji Curry night, Thursday our famous Fiji Pig on the spit and Meke, Saturday - Asian stir fry night. We also offer a cook your own BBQ option at the MCYC Island Bar.
We have 20 sun lounges around the main pool, all with umbrellas and a further 20 on the beach. Under the shade of coconuts. The island villas private pool has 16 pool lounges with umbrellas. More than enough for 10 rooms.
Sorry about the WIFI. During your stay the Telecom tower was out of order. Which effected ALL internet. It was fixed last week.
My comments are not meant to be defensive or trite. I just want to offer potential guests a balanced view.
Thanks again. I'm glad that overall you enjoyed your stay.

The Musket Cove is good for familes and couples and the staff so friendly and accommodating. We were lucky to get an early check-in too. Food and beverage very good and pool and water activities and snorkelling was very enjoyable. The other resorts are poor quality for food and beverage so only eat at Musket Cove. The mini supermarket is good for some top up items required during the stay. We enjoyed the day hire of bikes to cycle around the island.

Room Tip: our room was good - it was the old house with 6 rooms and a generous balcony like a farmhouse veran...

We stayed at Musket Cove for several nights in a Garden Bure, which was beautifully decorated, quiet and private. Plenty of room, a gorgeous outdoor shower, and little touches like fresh homemade biscuits each day, and supplies of bottled water resplenished daily.

The beach is the best of the three resorts on the island, the others being Plantation Resort and Lomani (adults only). The pool area, the beach and the restaurant area never felt crowded, it was for the most very peaceful and relaxing. There was plenty of day or half day trips available if you wanted to visit other islands or do a bit of snorkelling on a reef. You could also use the kayaks or stand up paddleboards. Or you could just lie back and read a book on the beach or around the pool.

Breakfasts were excellent, and dinners were good value for the price. We often had only entrée size as the mains were large serves. However we would agree that there needs to be some more variation in the menu to cater for guests staying for a longer period.

The resort has only 55 bures, hence guest numbers are small and it is relatively peaceful. They are currently building a new reception area, store and a bistro, this will offer a wider range of food when completed in the next few months.

We visited Plantation, but found it overrun with children, great for families but not what we wanted. We also visited Lomani, which adjoins Plantation. Lomani looks nice, is very small, yet had a bad infestation of mosquitoes when we there, which detracted from the resort.

Overall we loved Musket, gave it a 10/10, and will return one day.

Room Tip: Garden bures 51 plus at the rear are private and have outdoor showers.

Stayed in a garden Bure (G56) as we were staying with a toddler. This was a great room as even though a garden bure, it was close to the beach and only had another bure on one side. Useful to know that the island airport is situated next to it however it was not really a problem for us as over 5 nights there were barely any flights.
The rooms were nice and clean in traditional Fijian style, though I do think the bathrooms were a little dated. Also the plastic outdoor seating could use an upgrade.
The staff were all very friendly and the spa worth a visit (especially when they have deals on). Unfortunately the two times we booked babysitters they did not turn up - although the staff at the front office were quick to send a replacement.
The food in the restaurant was 5 star - delicious and so well presented - and the portions were massive. The only negative I would make is that they ask you to pre-book your eating times each day which was a little annoying.
The ferry out is efficient, making it close to the mainland and Nadi airport. The downside is that at low tide the whole bay drains out making swimming impossible and the area an unsightly mud pit. There was a pool to swim in which was nice and large with places for the kiddies to play, however the chlorine was quite strong and less attractive to the beach.
It is value for money. To compare it to 5 star resorts would not be fair as the cost is quite different, so my ratings above are in comparison to the cost expectations.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a beachfront Bure if not travelling with kids as the locations were obviously bett...

Bula and thanks very much for your kind words. Always great to hear when people enjoy their stay.
But I must apologise for the mixup with your babysitting. This was 100% our fault, and to happen twice makes it even more embarrassing. We've resolved the issue and it won't happen again.
Just a quick comment about the tides. I think the term mud is a tad harsh. Yes, we do experience tides, just like elsewhere. And yes, during king tides the bay is exposed. Which would be great if it weren't. But that's mother nature doing her thing. Being conscience of low tides we compensate by offering two FREE snorkel excursions daily and there is deep water swimming and snorkelling just behind the MCYC Island bar.
Keep an eye on our website for updates on our continued enhancements. Including new bathrooms.
Thanks again.

Such a lovely relaxing spot. Bungalow was really nice with a big balcony we could sit out on.
You can hire bikes and cycle round the island which is lovely but very hot !
Also there is a golf course 5 mins walk away which we played a round at, quite cheap and a nice course by the sea.
Did a few island tours from here which were also lovely. We had the all meals included package. I ate way too much it was lovely though.

Recently my family and I visited Malolo Lailai. We stayed at PLantation Island Resort, which is a whole other story.

We had dinner at Dicks, a long with a large group of "food refugees", from Plantation.

The meal at Dicks was truly outstanding, one of the finest meals i've ever had. Sadly we didnt discover this earlier in our stay. However, next time we will stay at Musket Cove and enjoy the fine food each day.
