Recently stayed on Mana as part of an educational trip (im a travel agent) and were welcomed by beautiful Fijians and their guitars serenading us onto the island.
Mana is absolutely beautiful and the snorkeling was out of this world. Good island for familys, honeymooners, couples, older couples too. There is a small kids club on the island and they can also provide you with a nanny for the little ones.

The spa was terrific and one of my colleges had a massage there and raved about it.

The colour of the water is nothing like you have ever seen and changes throughout the day. I would recommend staying in the beachfront rooms. 2 story with a kitchenette, lounge room, 2 balconys and second bathroom too. There is also a stunning chapel that overlooks the water. Good also for the incredibly hot days, they are acconditioned but you could open up the doors to enjoy the sea breeze (i can imagine the rooms in the middle of the island could get quite hot in the heat of summer)

Some of the facilities on the island are a little tired but the island itself more than makes up for it.

Laundry facilities on the island FOC.

Read all the reviews and now since having spent 8 nights on the island here's my review.
LOWS:
My wife got bed bugs - which the on island nurse said was sea lice - No - it's bed bugs. Pretty much ruined holiday for her- couldn't tan anymore, itched constantly, felt embarrassed really, and couldn’t even hold our young kids.
A full meal plan is not really what you think - Kids free only if eating at sub standard buffet - lunch is left overs from night before really - curiously there was Ginger Pork, etc for lunch the day after the Asian themed dinner. South Beach restaurant is much better but has to be booked in advance and your kids don't eat free !!!
The welcome book says 50% off during happy hour for beer, wine and soft drinks - which is NOT the case. When I mentioned this to a waitress she just smiled, and shrugged.
Cocktails - yes, have to agree with what others have said - always running out of ingredients, and barmen often messing up the mix.
Paid activities are a waste of money! Don’t pay for a snorkeling trip to a fantastic spot - North beach is better. You get 5 hours babysitting a day free, but this has to be taken in one sitting - ridiculous! I paid for internet cafe - 5FJD for 30 mins, used 4mins and said I'd return to check mail again - No, has to be used in one sitting....
We stayed in a bure that had such dirty Aircon filters. I personally had to clean them, just to get a bit of air flow - even then, the unit had been battling for so long, that it hardly worked the whole time we were there. Our friends in the inter-connecting bure had a much cooler room. The cupboard clip was broken, and when I asked the maintenance guy to fix it, he fiddled for a bit and then we never saw him again. In the end we had to "lock" the cupboards closed with my daughters hair tie. Hardly 4 star!!!
Table tennis bats were in such poor condition that it was hard to play a decent game.
Cheapest bottle of wine at restaurant was 55FJD - for something like Hardys - real cheap stuff! If you bought a bottle from the little shop, for an already expensive 32FJD, they stung you with a 15FJD corkage fee at the restaurant!!
HIGHS:
Lovely and warm, even on the overcast days.
The snorkeling off North beach was fantastic - saw eels, octopus, sharks, cuda, and plenty other colorful fish. - Sadly no sea snakes for us.

Final word:
Is really a beautiful island - but the owners seem to be pocketing profits rather than re-investing back into the resort. If they don’t sort this out soon - Mana will we be making a quick slide downhill.

I stayed on Mana Island for 7 nights in a Garden Bure. The rooms themselves were lovely, and the outdoor shower was an exciting adventure! The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The food in the buffet section was average, nothing spectacular, but fine. The food from South Beach Restaurant was beautiful and an amazing selection. It was delicious and can be used as part of the meal package.
They offered snorkelling, fishing, diving and bingo as well as day tours to other islands to keep you occupied, as well as a games room.
They have 2 well kept swimming pools and 3 beaches to visit. The coral around the island and the colour of the water was just stunning.
It also had a lovely spa to spoil yourself with a massage, facial or foot scrub!
It is a place to go if you really want to relax and unwind, speak to friendly people and see just how beautiful the world can be.
I would not suggest Mana Island for those who want a big nightlife. Mana had a live band as entertainment who sang all types of songs and had local performances as well for their traditional dances. They do have a section for backpackers for the budget traveller if you want to stay for one or two nights and the backpacker pub has a party almost every night!
All in all it was a fnatastic place to visit.

The staff loved our 16 month old and were always accommodating. Like when we left our pram on the ferry over there, they located it and we had it by the end of the day. the snorkeling was great. food at south beach restaurant excellent for dinner, so def book the day before for this, as it's worth it. we stayed in ocean front suite, the one with the mezzanine level, which is perfect for bubs needing to sleep earlier than us at night. place was fine, but the 4 star rating is not our 4 star rating here in australia, it's more 3 star, but a great place to stay anyway. a week here was well worth it and very relaxing with a few water sports thrown into it and all the kids from what we could see at kids club enjoyed it. we couldnt use the service as bubs was too young, but others with ones her age, used the 5 hours of free baby sitting made avail for this age group of 0-2 years. we found our daughter was clingy so didnt feel at ease with leaving her, but would have felt very secure with the fijians, they LOVE kids. fijians do things in their own time too, so there is no rushing to get things done or get the food buffet re-stocked quickly, but they had great drinks and food service at the south beach restaurant. def get a meals package of 3 meals a day purchased before you leave (so glad we did), as their prices are very expensive and the drinks cost alot too. so stock up on bottles of duty free alcohol before and have a pre dinner drink for sure before you head to eat, as this is where they make their money. water was very expensive at the general store, which also has very little variety of things to buy, so make sure you take your own chocolates, snacks, and sunscreen, as this is all very costly there and they dont really have many if any snacks to offer others than choc chip cookies. had a terrific time though, but could see why some would be disappointed if you expect too much. i am glad i read loads of these reviews as it made me so pleased with the final result when my expectations were lower. the south beach area is very windy, but spend most time down at north beach and pool and all will be fine.

Breath taking beautiful island

Sitting on a palm-dotted beach with lots of Sands, Mana Island Resort and Spa. Mana Island has 3 Beach which are South, North and Sunset Beach.
The guest rooms are in that flank the central building Called 600 Block. Each room has its own balcony or patio with a view of the sea or or the tropical gardens surrounding the complex.

Mana Island is a breathtakingly beautiful island of dramatic lush, green, tropical rainforest clad hills and white sand beaches.

Mana is an idyllic Fijian island resort, surrounded by white sand, and crystalline coral reefs, that lies in the Great Sea Reef.

The food was fantastic, as good as in any top restaurant in Fiji. Every meal was consistently among the top meals we've EVER had in Fiji. This feat was especially impressive considering how mediocre the food was at the other five star resort we visited in other Island Resort in Fiji and including the Main Hotels.

I can not tell you how much we loved our trip. We had a group of 9 adults and 2 children from New Zealand and we had THE BEST vacation we have ever had.

The resort was superb; the activities including scuba diving, nature walks, nightly presentations and Bech Fire for the kids / Adults were amazing.

Everyone at the dive shop did a great job and was so friendly and helpful. They took care of all of our diving needs from the time we arrived to when we left.

But the absolute best part about the trip was the people: Fijians. All of the people there, without exception, were excellent. The managers were great and made us feel so welcome. I remember someone who was setting up for the morning telling me happy birthday at 6:30am before anyone else had woken up and wondered how in the world he knew it was my birthday! I don’t think I ever met him before that! The manager who played the guitar and sang happy birthday or congratulations just had this big welcoming, friendly smile on his face all the time and you could really tell that he loved his job. Your staff knew us all by name from day 1 and it felt as though they welcomed us into their home!

Mana Island is a picture perfect location and the snorkeling right in front of our room was incredible.
Our boys, 10 and 12 did not use the kids club although the people running the activities seemed to genuinely enjoy being with children and the kids were having a great time.
We filled most of our 6 night/5 day stay in the water - snorkelling, kayaking, swimming and sailing and enjoyed spending time as a family. We had so much fun together in the beautiful warm water that I would not hesitate to return, despite the poor quality of the resort itself. I read all the reviews before we went and could not believe that some people rated it so highly and some so low. In fact they were all correct. Mana is beautiful, safe and well suited to young families but I suspect other islands are equally so and I’m absolutely positive that other resorts must be better.

Firstly and most unfortunately, the reef has not been protected by the current owners and is quite damaged by poorly monitored water sports and excessive usage.
Secondly, the resort is not even close to 4star. It is VERY tired, unclean and although the service is friendly and relaxed, problems are not dealt with unless you ask several times. The pools are not as spectacular as they appear in the brochures and are full of young children. Please refer to my photo’s which show just how badly stained our sheets were and the state of the bathroom.

Arriving late (around 8.30 pm via water taxi) we were told there was no time for us to wash up and see our room before dinner (the Sunday night BBQ buffet). The food was disgusting. Dried out fish and meat that had been kept mildly warm in baine maries for longer than was healthy. There were also stodgy pastas and soft vegetable mixes. We were very disappointed and the next morning we booked into the South Beach Restaurant for the remainder of our stay. Breakfasts at the buffet (only option) were poor but toast and cereal with yoghurt were safe. Don't bother with coffee. Go to South Beach for lunch.

We had booked into an Ocean Front Suite as we wanted separate sleeping and living areas, and had specifically booked a suite with two doubles, but on arrival had been allocated a king bed and a trundle downstairs in the living room. When we called reception we were told there were no other rooms available and that someone would bring another bed for our second child. After about an hour (past 10.30 pm by this stage – children exhausted) my husband walked to reception to find out what was going on. Finally an extra bed was made up in our living area. Luckily we were told the next morning that the room we had requested was available. By this time we had seen the island in daylight and had decided to look past the problems and enjoy ourselves. After all this was our once-in-a-lifetime holiday!
We never did find out exactly what the full meal deal that we had purchased included. It is not on any resort information and we had received no details from our travel agent. We (adults) ate free everywhere, however some staff said the children were free at South Beach Restaurant, others said they were half price but on check out we found that we had been charged full price for their meals. The food at SB Restaurant was nice (not great, not changing but not at all disgusting).
We had a great holiday but only because the location was great. If I had the opportunity to return to Fiji I would try another resort, but if I won a free trip to Mana I would go in an instant.
