“Do yourself a favor and book Whitewater Rafting on the Upper Navua!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

Four of us went on this trip (Ages 57 / 56 / 27 / 24) and we all LOVED IT!!! We were transported from Denarau which is a very long commute (as the other reviewers have made very clear) but well worth the time spent. If you're staying near Pacific Harbour it will obviously be less of a commute. Females should have a pair of shorts (or sulu/sarong) to cover their fanny at the end of the trip when you go into the village - they provide a bag that will keep your items dry on the river.

We had the good fortune of getting Moses as our guide (he is truly a gem of Fiji) but all the guides are very pleasant and fun so I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of them. We all kept saying how we felt like we had magically been placed in the movie Avatar or Jurassic Park....the scenery is phenomenal.

From what I understand, we were there while the water was on the low side so it was a little milder than usual but, none-the-less, we had lots of thrills (and spills) and felt it was one of the greatest experiences we've all had and well worth the money spent.

On that note....some people have written reviews stating the prices are too high but I don't think they are taking into consideration what it takes to make this happen. Here are just a few things that I can think of off the top of my head:

Employees: Guides / Bus Drivers / Office Staff
Equipment: Busses for transport on paved road / 4WD busses for transport on dirt road (in & out of river) / Rafts and Oars / Safety equipment (vests / helmets / first aid kits)
Overhead: Office & Storage Facility / Office Equipment & Supplies / Lunch provided while rafting
Taxes & Fees paid to the Govt: Yes, those evil things!

I'm sure there are plenty of other costs that I'm not thinking of. Also, keep in mind that all of the equipment takes a GIGANTIC beating and probably needs replacement pretty frequently (especially those poor 4WD busses). I would love to see the other reviewers manage to put together an operation such as this and make it less costly, I don't think they could do it! Oh yeah, don't forget the business owners are also trying to make a little profit for all their trouble and investment.....DUH!

The bottom line is.....do yourself a favor and book this trip, it's more than worth the cost and you won't regret it!

“Upper Navua River Rifting - Love it!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2014

My partner and I went on the Upper Navua River Rafting adventure and enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

It's a full day trip (a very long full day trip!) and depends where you are getting picked up, it can be quite a long travel to get to the launch site. The second part of the travel into the conservation area is a really bumpy ride. Tip - try not to sit at the back of the bus.

But once the you're on the river, all the travelling are forgotten. The pristine water, beautiful canyons, somewhat gentle rapids and the ever professional and fun guides made the trip truly enjoyable.

We were told about the history of the river and the village life; saw and went under waterfalls, paddled down rapids, went into the river for a swim (with a life vest), had a lovely lunch, waved at a few villagers. It was a 5.5hrs trip down the river, but we never once felt bored or tired.

I highly recommend this trip if you want to do something more than just sitting by the pool at the resort.

“The Best White Water Rafting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2014

Who would have thought there would be white water rafting in Fiji. This is a must do for anyone spending time in Fiji. The Upper Navua River trip was absolutely incredible. Rivers Fiji provides transportation from your hotel for a fee, but this is totally worth it. It takes approximately 4 hours by bus to get there. We were VERY fortunate to have Moses as our guide. He was sooo much fun. We did multiple 360's while going thru the white water. The white water rafting was great with some class 3 spots, but the Best part was the scenery. It is unbelievable !!! You float the Upper Navua river through a picturesque gorge that has waterfalls flowing over the sides. It reminded me of Kauai with all the waterfalls. In fact there are a couple waterfalls that you actually go under and one that you can walk through on a small ledge. A Very nice lunch is provided by the guides half way through the rafting trip. This was one of the Best trips we have been on ANYWHERE !!!

“First Class Trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2014

I don't know where to start. There were so many positive experiences with this rafting adventure! Our guide, Moses, made us feel safe, while taking advantage of every "crazy" moment on the river. He spent time telling us personal stories and gave us history of the Fiji culture and the river/waterfalls in general. Would highly recommend this trip to people with experience and with no experience equally. Great company, great guide, beautiful river!
