“Great, Friendly, the real Fiji”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

We stayed here in late March 2014. We upgraded to the penthouse suite which gives guests a separate lounge and dining room and large king size bed and full size bath. There are no kitchen facilities but tea and coffee making is available. The only down side is the balcony is almost unuseable as it is far too small I am not sure if they are marked for some refurb or renovation.

Every staff member is wonderful - they are friendly and funny and do their best to make sure you enjoy your stay.

The Pearl is in the middle of a huge renovation and is due for completion late 2015. I look forward to returning and seeing how it all looks. Also hope for new linen, towels and furniture in the existing rooms as they are looking a bit tired.

The beach is great for swimming. Unfortunately this time they had experienced a cyclone which had dumped whole trees - timber etc the whole length of the beach. They had staff out every day cleaning it down and burning off what they could. Each morning the staff would return to see a new lot of debris on the beach and them having to start all over again. We still swam as the water is beautiful.

The food is not five star but good and plenty of variety and not as expensive as the resorts on Denarau, also the drinks are cheaper. Wine is really expensive but that is consistant thoughout Fiji. They are putting in a seafood restaurant with the new renovations. You are also in walking distance to the Arts Village which has three or four food outlets and the Uprising Resort along the beach is also good for lunch or dinner. There is a great golf course associated with the Pearl and is very tough. I lost 9 balls. You can take a trip to Suva, do the Sigatoka River cruise or the Zip line or simply sit back and relax.

This side of the main island is the real Fiji with many little villages giving us a glimpse of their real lives, which I think are pretty tough. Yet they all smile which those incredible white teeth wave and greet with Bula.

Vinaka (thank you) to the Pearl - we will be back.

Room Tip: Go for the Penthouse suites if you can afford it otherwise the ground floor ocean view are great.

This was our third visit to The Pearl and we won't return until the building works are completed probably early 2016 if it does not rain too much.
Again we stayed in a Penthouse suite which was an upgrade for which we are appreciative. However the downside to this is that it, like all top floor rooms does not have a balcony big enough for chairs and has no roof.
These rooms are now desperately in need of a make-over as they are starting to look quite dirty especially the lounge and carpets.
The housekeeping is also very hit and miss with products not being replaced and only one face washer for our entire stay (may have been fine if there was one each).
These rooms also suffer from very bad design in and around the bathroom which does not offer appropriate privacy. They need to put up some walls and move or lose the bathtub!!!
The breakfast is also the same as the last 2 times and they need to be more creative- water is not even offered unless you wish to purchase it.
Overall the food is not bad but needs improvement in some areas, for example, we ate at Mantarae restaurant one evening and my wife's meal was fine but my serve of Mahi Mahi fish was so overcooked I could not eat it. When the waitress asked how my food was I explained the situation and showed her the meal. With great disinterest she took the plate and I was never offered a replacement or no charge. It was only after I said that I would not pay for it that she seemed to take any notice. At best the food here can best be described as Club/Pub bistro with a few highlights such as the mudcrab dishes and a wicked peanut butter desert.
The staff here are fantastic (if sometimes a bit slow during happy hour) and make up for some of the shortfalls.
Prices are very reasonable though and the beach is normally wonderful (we got the end of a cyclone and much debris on beach) the water warm and usually clear.
The management team members such as Josepha are very helpful.
The golf course still offers a challenge, many extra balls needed and the food at lunch - well a good hamburger should probably have a burger bun that has not spent much time in the freezer.
We had lunch one day at The Uprising a resort down the beach and the food was excellent with good variety. Also try the Waters Edge at the Village.
To conclude, having stayed 3 times now we are probably in a fair position to try and give the reader a balanced view of this resort which we still consider with great affection.
Vinaka to all at The Pearl.

The resort itself was fantastic, the pool was a clear sparkling blue and the facilities, tennis courts, were great. One of the main highlights of my trip turned out to be the staff at the Pearl, and the Fijian people. The staff went above and beyond their duties to be friendly and make us feel welcomed.

Defiantly coming back!

Yes, maybe a tiring drive from Nadi but well worth the effort with interesting sights on the way - cane fields, villages, schools, fish, fresh fruit & vegetables for sale on roadside, and the Coral Coast scenic drive.

Yes, the hotel is looking a bit tired but with the new ownership, great things are starting to happen. The long awaited marina has started and although part of the lovely gardens are being lost, other improvements will more than compensate. Location - situated on the best beach on Viti Levu - sorry Natadola - and only a few metres walk from any of the rooms. Lovely view looking out to Beqa.

Rooms are of a good size and I'm sure future plans include refurbishment. Maybe softer mattresses.

The Pearl is well situated to enjoy some of the attractions in Pacific Harbour and also restaurants, shopping for clothing and souvenirs at the Arts Village. Thoroughly recommend the Golf Club Bar & Grill for a meal. Breakfast Saturday & Sunday only. Closed for meals Monday & Tuesday. Lunch & Dinner Wednesday to Sunday. Well worth the visit. If a guest at the hotel transport is provided.

Like the last review (16 march), we had an enjoyable time. Granted the drive was long, but we also stopped in Sigatoka for a pit stop and an ice cream, and welcomed the leg stretch.
The rooms could do with a polish but we didn't spend much time in it, preferring to laze around the pool.
A definite highlight was the village trip, and the Arts Centre. Unfortunately we only found out about the Arts Centre by chance after having wasted a half day going to Suva. Hot, dirty, polluted and a contrast to The Pearl. The Arts Centre doesn't appear to be publicised very well. Don't recommend Suva at all when everything else is locally available.
Being off season, the Golf Course was empty, and is cheaper for food than eating at the resort. A steak is $35FJ compared to $49! Drinks are cheaper as we'll.
The people are fantastic, particularly Save, at the pool bure. Extremely friendly and a great source of knowledge.
The Spa was very relaxing, so we visited twice in 3 days!
The food was nice, but i question the value compared to what it costs. I can't accept prices comparable to Oz prices when the staff don't earn what restaurant staff in Australia will get paid. Unfortunately food options are limited but there are a couple of gems at the Arts Village as well.
Overall, a nice place for a few days of doing not very much!

After wanting a holiday break where pampering was the main theme, The Pearl certainly delivered. Some other reviewers rated the long drive from Nadi as a negative, whereas we loved seeing the countryside, villages and other resorts on the way. In many ways it was an education as well! Our driver was happy to chat and answer questions along the way. He gave us a pitstop at Sigatoka which was appreciated.

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and taken to our room, which was delightful. Our view from the balcony took our breath away. We explored the buildings and grounds and were greeted by super friendly staff everywhere. We decided upon room service for our first evening meal, as we were a tad weary and hey presto! it arrived so quickly, we were thrilled. Delicious and such reasonable prices.

Our days were filled with massages, tours, visits, laughter and sheer indulgence poolside and dips in the warm ocean, which we had to ourselves.

The daily breakfast was a banquet with specialties on certain days. The setting overlooked the green grounds and beautiful scenery out to Beqa Island.
We eagerly anticipated the nightly activities newsletter to see what surprises would accompany the next new day. There was also a board outside the tours/info kiosk at poolside, describing daily events.

We were totally impressed with and sympathised with the staff around the pool who positively dealt with the few wayward children whose parents had other things on their minds. Maybe because it is such a distance to The Pearl, not too many families with young children were in evidence.

We saw two weddings and became guests at one!
We made new friends and loved it all so much that we are returning in June this year!

This is a perfect place to chill out and do not much at all. The closest 'entertainment' is the Arts Village which is a good 10 mins walk along the highway.

I highly recommend the visit to the local village and the church service. The music, singing and atmosphere there will remain with you for some time. Your contribution to the collection plate will mean so much to the community.

There are some building works in progress but in an area away from the front of the resort. They did not affect our total enjoyment one iota.

Room Tip: If you have children, a room on the ground level would be an advantage.

We just stayed at The Pearl for 7 days. We have chosen this hotel because of the good reviews. However, got disappointed. We came around 6pm, got into room at 7. The rooms are old, not very clean and need refurbishment. Complex is nice but definitely not 4-5 star at the moment. It has to restaurants, but never both open...
Staff are very kind and friendly. Breakfast is nice as well. Dinner menu is poor and overpriced but the food is tasty.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean view room on the first flor
