We spent 3 nights over the may day holiday, check in was quick and efficient. Our room (junior suite) was spacious, bathroom big, (nice bath) Bed was really comfortable, not too hard for China. Breakfast was good, enough choice. Location is great, never had a problem catching a taxi and the concierge helpfull. The decor of this recently renovated hotel was interesting, old pictures of Shanghai. Will certainly being staying here on our visit to Shanghai.

So excited you enjoyed your family holiday at our first MetroPolo Hotel that reopened last November as a chic edgy Boutique Hotel. We did upgrade the cushioning on the mattresses so as not to be quite so hard as some Chinese beds - and you noticed. The location is quite central to Jin An Temple area and Yan An has its share of taxis. With the breakfast buffet we have tried to mix east and west food items that can appeal to almost everyone, even a coffee and croissant if congee is not your taste. In a suite you do enjoy those recharge bathtubs for sure. Come back and see us again at this and other MetroPolo Hotels. Thank you for your business

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights and will definitely be back.
A boutique hotel with contemporary, recently refurbished interior and an art deco exterior.
It has an atmosphere of tranquility and the rooms, beds, staff ,breakfast were all great. Lovely big bath and spotlessly clean. There is free wifi and a happy hour too :)
It is within easy access of public transport i.e. Metro lines and also easy to hail a taxi .
We loved the decor and had a great feeling of coming home after a busy day out in the hustle and bustle of one of my favourite cities .

Thank you so much for your May Holiday business, there is such a choice of hotels in SH. You stayed in one of the 22 suites that have the soothing bath tubs along with separate shower facilities. These are well worth the extra money when staying more than 2 nights, and enjoy the experience. The hotel now open these 6 months has a chic and edgy colourful design with that historic building exterior from 1937. Glad you enjoyed the FREE to guest evening social daily from 16.00 to 18.00, followed for another hour for HH drinks. We all at MetroPolo Hotels look forward to welcoming your family back soon.

Recommended by a friend, this hotel is bright, stylish and contemporary.
A thoughtfully designed suite (with a separate toilet !) and large living areas. More coat hangers always helpful.Air conditioning particularly quiet.
Being newly refurbished, the hotel is fresh and spotlessly clean throughout. The downstairs areas are delightful, looking out onto an outside pool and living wall; a pleasant area to unwind.
Breakfast was adequate.
Good location, particularly for those wanting to enjoy the French concession. The staff are welcoming and keen to help...taxis easily found.
Seek it out, affordable chic !

Room Tip: A room facing the pool may be better if you are a light sleeper.

First thank you very much for your business we know there is so much choice in SH. We are the first hotel in a new mid market brand and are eager to hear customer feedback like yours. Seems your friend is quite in the know about SH boutique hotels. The 18 Classiq rooms you mention facing the reflecting pool all have a balcony to sit out on - Nice! There are also 22 suites with bathtubs and showers separated. I think we can manage some extra coat hangers and for a longer staying guest, I can see how they would help out. At breakfast we try to mix east with west and cover all our bases, so I hope you tried the congee as well as the coffee & croissants. We agree the location to the former French Concession is super good and I hope you found the historic Propaganda Museum nearbye with its poster art. Please come back and see us, or try another MetroPolo Hotel on your next swing through SH. Thank you again.

This is a still not well known gem. It is a boutique hotel with an art deco exterior (designed by famed architect Laszlo Hudec) on the outside and an oasis of class, cleanliness, and charm in the lobby, bar and dining areas. There is an artificial pond outside the bar area that adds to an atmosphere of tranquility.

We had a suite that was decorated in a classy way, spacious, and comfortable. Lighting throughout was pleasantly indirect and yet functional. The large bathroom had marble floors and walls that extended into separate toilet and shower stalls. The latter was very spacious. There was also a deep freestanding bathtub (the bathroom was that large).

The buffet breakfast was extensive for a mid market hotel, offering western style items with a few Chinese ones as well. The bar area had comfortable stylish seating, great for the daily 5:00 – 6:30 PM social hour.

There is a workout room with some free weights, two treadmills, and a couple of other aerobic machines in an adjacent building.

The only downside was the rather limited English on the part of the staff. This, apparently, is pretty normal for any but the high end hotels in Shanghai. That said, in all my encounters I found staff to be universally friendly and most willing to please.

There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel (we tried a couple of them and really liked the food) and downtown Shanghai is a $3 to $5 (US) taxi ride of 10-15 minutes.

How nice that you enjoyed so many amenities that are on offer for this new brand. The gym, reflecting pond, better than expected east meets west breakfast and the FREE to guest Evening Social in the lobby, which will be 16.00 - 18.00 shortly.. Yes this is the first MetroPolo Classiq Hotel. Coming soon in July will be the Off Bund location of MetroPolo Hotels Shanghai. You stayed in a suite, there are 22, and they are quite superb value around 800 RMB a night to spead out. I encourage everyone to do this or the 18 Classiq rooms that have a balcony at around 700 RMB a night. Seasons and days of the week price may differ. I think you were right to highlight the bathrooms, they are spacious and well lit with separate cubicles. This building is indeed historic and art deco and you can walk around the district viewing many more old villas and buildings from this 1930's period. Local food across the street, you can't beat that, though the hotel does have a small Cafe. Yes you spotted the spoken English opportunity, and we are working on developing a lesson plan, though many do in fact speak enough to assist, perhaps depends on the shifts worked. We continue to strive for something where before there was nothing. Hope you can come back and see us, we loved having you as our guests.

A brand new hotel in a historic building that's the first Metropolo with more planned for Shanghai and across China, and it's great. Me and my wife wife stayed for four nights in April and it was great all round, great rooms, great staff, free Wifi and happy hour drinks, a free breakfast mix of other tourists, students and businessmen with Porsches. It's only a 20rmb or about £2 taxi ride into the city centre, and the bedroom slippers were better than the Sheraton's where we stayed later in Hong Kong
We would definitely stay there again and again

Room Tip: Suites are large and superbly planned like the4 rest of the hotel

We thank you for your business and for your gracious comments too. Yes this is the first of a new midmarket hotel brand, and this hotel is set in a 1937 art deco historic building. The FREE to guest evening social will be a feature at all the hotels, and generally last from 16.00 - 18.00. After that is indeed a HH. The breakfast buffet is a mixture of local and international items, did you try the congee? For others reading this we do not plan to be exclusive to Porsche owners, though it is a mighty fine method of transportation. Come back and see us, at the Off Bund MetroPolo in July. Again thank you for your kind comments.

The hotel decorated nicely ecpecail the view of the coffee bar on the lobby. I can enjoy the fresh ground coffee with the great lake view there. The toilet and the shower are separated in the room. Free Wifi and breakfast, so the cost performance is high.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are bigger and quieter.

Thank you for your business, we know you have a huge lodging choice in Shanghai. And lovely to hear from you in such a positive light. At Jinjiang MetroPolo hotels we encourage guests to "hang" in the lobbies and enjoy decent coffee or drinks. At this hotel we do have a beautiful water fish pond for relaxation and reflection. The FREE evening Social in the lobby features drinks and small snacks and of course FREE WiFi. You refer to the The Classiq room type on the back of the building is overlooking this pond and features balconies to sit out on. There will be a great many more MetroPolo Hotels throughout China in the months to come.
We really appreciate your business and do come back and see us again please.

Metropolo Dahua is a very acceptable destination for western travelers. The property has been renovated in beautiful style from top to bottom and is a convenient location for conducting business downtown as well as in the west suburbs. The hotel offers most amenities one would expect in a five-star at a very moderate price. Included breakfast was satisfactory for western tastes, and several excellent western style restaurants are located within a short walk. Desk staff have fluent English, and other staff make an effort to understand and cater to non-Chinese speakers. I would certainly consider returning on my next trip to Shanghai.

Room Tip: Although rooms on the south side might be quieter, my room overlooking the Yan'An Expressway was...

Thank you for sharing your comments about this first hotel in the new Jinjiang MetroPolo brand. This is indeed a smaller boutique property with art deco exterior and chic contemporary interior designs. Glad that your staff encounters were positive and that many could speak enough English to meet your needs. At breakfast we have tried to cater the menu items to both International and Chinese guests and open around 6.30 am for the early birds. I recommend to international guests either the suites or the balcony rooms as more space and more adventure. I hope you were also able to enjoy the FREE evening social drinks between 5 pm and 6.30 pm during your stay? Y'all come back and see us real soon. We have blue skies again today.
