First impression of hotel is good as the reception and lobby area is excellent. Both rooms we had here were modern with a comfortable bed and good lighting, work area, wi- fi which only worked in some rooms, but was free even if you had to go to the lobby.A good size gym and heated indoor swimming pool. These were all the positives, but unfortunately what is seen as a 5 star hotel is let down by 3 star management, service, maintenance and cleaning.
The first double room we were given was a smokers room on a smoking floor (we asked for non-smoking). As it had been a long day and we had unpacked before we started getting a reaction to the smell, we rang reception to say we would have to be moved but would put up with it on the first night due to the lateness - they said they would "try"in the morning!
At reception the next morning, the manager on duty (Andy) said he had a room on a high floor with twin beds for us - we said no as we wanted a double bed as originally stated. As the wrangling continued Andy was very aggressive towards my wife, leaning across the desk into her face and saying he could do no more than offered - when we pointed out their statement of customer satisfaction guaranteed or money back he then said he would see what he could do and why didn't we wait in our room until he called - said no, we would wait in the lobby as why would we wait in the room where we got such a bad reaction. 20mins. later his female assistant took us to a room on the 12 floor to see if we would accept - even though the room was smaller and for single occupancy, we accepted as it was non-smoking and had a double bed.
Buffet Breakfast - understaffed - one female to clean and set up tables for the whole restaurant, no-one at door to direct to a table, plenty of food of chinese or western cuisine as regards the range, but replenishment was very tardy and some of the supposed hot items were cold. coffee/tea available - help yourselves, my wife wanted hot water but no staff available to ask!
The next morning buffet breakfast was provided on the 1st floor in the ballroom as we were part of a tour group - very poor as although various dishes were provided, they were there from 6.30am and you can imagine what it was like if you are not an early riser.
In summing up, we have now stayed in 3 different hotels by Radisson - all have excellent facilities, but in 2 of those the management and service in various areas has been atrocious - so weigh it up for yourselves!

Friendly staff, quality rooms and wonderful location. Right in the heart of the French Concession. Close to the metro with connections to the bullet train. Excellent selection of Asian and continental food at the restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the garden.

The hotel itself is a fine hotel. Clean; rooms are lovely; breakfast was excellent. But the location is terrible and, as a tourist, the commute to the city center is long and wastes precious time.
This was my second trip to Shanghai and on my first trip I stayed at the Renaissance on The Bund side of the river and steps to everything a tourist wants to experience in Shanghai. This Radisson Blu is just too far out. Better to spend a little more on a hotel near the "action" - remember transportation into the city and back to the hotel also costs money as well as time.
One final note, the immediate area of the hotel is not necessarily sketchy but you wouldn't walk around at night.

self and wife stayed for two nights. Starting from check in till check out every activity was professionally handled. Room was spacious. Good restaurant's. Overall ambience was very good. Service was prompt, staff friendly. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby was aboon. Hotel is well located with market nearby. Unfortunately, due to paucity of time we could not use health club.

Room Tip: No special tip

I stayed at this hotel for my company's training for 4nights. I really like that I could watch TV in the room while taking bath and sports gym with big swimming pool like 20m which open from6am to 11pm. We can also use Wi-Fi in the hotel but most of the time connection was really bad in the room but it was okay using WiFi in the lobby like public area and restaurant. Service itself is standard in terms of the one in China.
